you don't want it to change

The next pack on her loop was, or so Kassander told her, a former ally of his led by a woman named Epiphron. Interestingly, Katja herself did know this Epiphron, though rather vaguely, as a wolf who had joined Ebony under Raisa's rule and had even been given a high rank. That was all she remembered of the woman, however, and she hadn't any idea if the woman would recall her at all.
They found themselves, on following Kassander's directions to the pack, in a much wetter area of the east than what Katja had grown accustomed to in Ebony. Unfortunately, reaching the border revealed in the scent markers a troubling issue. Epiphron was no longer alpha of this pack. She exchanged a glance at a distinctly worried-looking Kassander. She couldn't quite recall what Epiphron's scent was like, but the alpha of this pack was clearly a young male. Hm. Interesting. What had transpired between then and now? It would be wise to discover this rather than be taken by surprise; it was good she'd made this journey then.
Lifting her muzzle she called for the alpha of the pack, and any members he would wish to bring with him.
