Laufey was a father. Even now, weeks since his son had entered the world, it still felt surreal. How could he be a parent? Whose crazy idea had that been? What idiot god had looked down at him and went "that moron...he should have a kid" and dropped one on him? Or, maybe, one of Katja and Kaprasius' gods, looking at the tiny pool of Finnvis, had decided he'd make due with what he had and somehow Laufey had gotten picked to procreate. In any case, Laufey was a father. He rather liked it. Stretched out in the shade provided by one of the trees that stood on the fringe of the forest, Laufey stared out into the rogue territory. There wasn't anything plaguing his thoughts, he was just feeling a little contemplative, a little bored. It'd been quite some time since he got into a fight, hadn't it? Maybe it was time to change that.

He. Had. Finally. FOUND IT! The perfect stick! It was long and smooth and it was firm, but his teeth could slide though the wood and no splinters came off. After he had carefully peeled the bark off, the new toy was ready. It was about as long as the boy was and running around with it made his neck a little sore, but it was perfect! Running through the trees, Stori looked for his father. Tree, tree, log, tree, DAD! The pup skidded to a halt and changed directions, running towards his father. KLACK! The boy jolted back. That was odd, why couldn't he pass? He reared and tried again. KLACK! His stick pulled back in his maw, preventing the boy from going on. Maybe if he tries running between these other two tree- KLACK! Okay... this on- KLACK! For whatever reason, these trees wouldn't let him show his father his stick! Backing up, Stori scratched into the dirt, readying himself for an extra forceful lunge. He bowed, rump wiggling in the air as he eyed the space between two trees. Eyes narrowing, teeth gritting the stick, Stori kicked off. "We could be immortals."

Without him realizing it his eyes had drifted closed. He relaxed and let his boredom begin to pull him down into slumber. Laufey would have gotten there too if not for the incessant knocking of a woodpecker who started up just as the giant drifted off. While not quite enough to startle him into awareness the sound did stop him from falling asleep. The first knock halted his descent and each subsequent knock brought him closer and closer to wakefulness. Laufey opened his eyes just in time to see Stori hit an invisible wall. The knocking sound he'd credited a woodpecker with reached his ears. It took a moment for the stick in Stori's mouth to register and two more moments to realize what the problem was. By that time his son was gearing up for yet another run. He was going to end up busting that stick and possibly hurting himself, Laufey could see it already. "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" He got to his paws and tried to intercept the boy before he could make it to the trees.

He was ready. Stori was so ready. He was just about to- "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Wow, suddenly Dad! Stori stopped, plopping his butt down and wagging his little tail as fast as it would go. His lips curled into a slobbery, sloppy smile around the stick, "Whasssshup?" he asked, his neck straining to crane up to look at his dad with bright, seafoam-green eyes. After a pause, Stori opened his maw and the stick clattered to the ground. Stori's eyes stayed on his dad, waiting for a reaction. The perfect stick. See it? He wanted his dad to see it. His maw hung open still, but his eyes, without moving his head, glanced down at the stick. Wasn't it perfect? He couldn't see it when he looked down, his nose was in the way and his head was tilted too far up, but he knew it was perfect. "We could be immortals."

Whew, crisis averted. Laufey skidded to a halt in front of Stori and then sat down hard. The rush from near sleep to top speed and then to a complete stop was almost enough to give him whiplash. Completely unaware of his father's brief panic, Stori beamed up at him with a goobery grin on his face. He slobbered a question around the giant stick before finally dropping it. "What are you doing?" Slowly, coaxed into following Stori's insistent gaze, Laufey's attention shifted to the stick at his son's paws. It was just a big stick. Nothing special, just very long and...stick-like. But clearly Stori was pleased with it and he wanted Laufey to notice it. "Nice stick you got there," he commented.

Stori's dad asked him what he was doing, but Stori was so absorbed in getting his dad to notice the stick that he didn't reply. After what felt like forever, his father commented that he had a nice stick. It was a nice stick, wasn't it? It really was? Excitement fluttering through the young boy, Stori jumped up, "Isn't it perfect?! Its so big and also smooth and also I can bite it a lot and it doesn't break, see?!" Stori bent down and gave his stick a good few bites while glancing from the stick to his dad. He wanted to prove to his dad that this really was the best stick. Even though he didn't like the sharing, he supposed there really was only one way to show his dad that this stick was really the best. Lifting the stick with a small, uneven bobble of his head, Stori beamed at Laufey, "Thry ith!"

Laufey made a show of inspecting the stick. Really, it just looked like any old stick. The most remarkable - and that was using the word rather flippantly - was its size and even that didn't make it spectacular. It was a stick and that was it. Nevertheless he played along. "Mmhm, mmhm..." He squinted at it, nodding to himself. Yep. That was - surprise, surprise! - a stick. A good stick. An impressive stick. He made all the right faces to convey that. "It's very nice, Stori." "Want to see what it's made of?" As was expected of him, Laufey grabbed hold of the proffered stick. His eyes sought Stori's and he gave it a testing yank. Perhaps a tug o' war to test its mettle?
