Sardines on Toast

That morning, Locha had woken up and known that today was a day for fishing. The sun was out, the wasn't too much of a breeze and the rain had held off for another day. She'd padded out of the family dens bright-eyed and bushy-tailed with a smile on her face. Her usual fishing rocks had been waiting for her near the edge of the cove.
Now, a pile of fish sat behind her, ready for whoever had a craving of fish for breakfast, or maybe a snack for any night-owls heading to bed. She herself stood patiently on her rock, head down, watching deep down into the sea below her.

There was something weird smelling... somewhere in front of her. What it was, she couldn't say, but it was definitely odd. She creeped out of her father's den quietly, now knowing the layout perfectly. She knew where most everything was now, through much bumping around - Of course, it helped that the girl could now 'see' shapes, and some colors. Blurry, of course, but less darkness and more... brightness. It was incredibly weird for her, but her father reassured her it was okay. It was only in her right eye that the darkness was turning bright - now that she could actually label these things as light and dark.
She padded quietly towards the smell, and it got stronger... and stronger... and stronger, until her nose bumped something wet and cold. Squealing, she fell back on her haunches, rubbing at her nose and shaking her head back and forth, with her left ear flopping around. What was that?

Locha jolted up and away from her concentration when she heard a small thump, followed by a pup-like squeal. Eyes wide, she turned around quickly, looking back at her fish pile, only to see her niece Cirrus on the ground and rubbing her nose beside it. She had yet to meet her little niece, but she'd heard of her blindness, and of the tentative healing that was happening. Locha smiled and hopped over to a rock closer to the shore, trying to make a bit of noise to alert the pup of her presence.
"It's nice to see you've met my fish pile, Cirrus." she said in a teasing tone.
