SeraPhiel

It had been a long time since she had been in Boreas lands, and even then she hadn't had a chance to travel far from Donostrea, she had been only a pup. It hadn't stopped her from exploring the lands immediately surrounding her home, but she hadn't had the chance to travel much further before The Incident.

Now she was a little more knowledgeable of the world, and had incentive to explore. She was going to find her family, she was going to make sure that everyone was okay. She missed them something ferocious, and wanted them back in her life. Tar was a start, more then a start really. There was no one she would have rather have had at her side to help her on this mission. Things weren't perfect between them, but they had started to repair the damage of her absence.

That wasn't to say things weren't a touch awkward at times. The first night in his presence she had hardly slept, occasionally cracking open an eye and peering at him through the darkness, needing to confirm that he was still there with her, that finding him hadn't been a dream. Then there was his scent, and the sight of him in all his adult glory. It kept knocking her off focus, and she would get caught up in her thoughts of him, thoughts that where unusual to the young wolf. She shook them off, and tried to downplay them. What she would have given to ask Caeli's advice. Of course, if her Aunt had already been there beside her then she wouldn't be standing at Mortars side in the strange smelling swamp, wondering where to find a lead in the search for her family. Well, perhaps the standing at Mortar's side part wouldn't have changed. She had made a promise, and she would give her life to keep it.

She lifted her head to the breeze, and wrinkled her nose at the smell of decay and mold. This place wasn't the sweetest smelling area in the world, and she was hopelessly lost. “We should try... this way” she said to her Partner in Crime, trying to infuse some confidence into the words as she navigated the marshy landscape.

To be honest Mortar hadn't slept much either since Ray had been back. Occasionally he'd opened an eye to see if she was still there, just as she was doing to him, and he was relieved when he saw that she still was. She was sticking to her promise to be by his side and hadn't dared stray too far from him. They traveled together and did anything else with each other as well. It was a relief to have someone with him again. He'd missed the company of another wolf. He'd hoped that his company would have been Ricochet, but she was off doing who knows what and he'd yet to track her down again. It was one of his goals to find all of his siblings, to reconcile with all of them, and see if they'd join him once again. He wanted his family back.

He still felt uneasy about trying to find all of Ray's family. There were a lot of them, as bright and colorful as they were, and they were hard to find. He'd spent almost an entire year trying to track them all down, but they'd vanished without a trace. Who knew finding the vibrantly colored Elementas family could be so hard? He didn't want to shatter her own hopes and dreams with his own depressing reality so he'd kept his mouth shut and instead followed her to whatever destination she had in mind for the day.

Their travels today had brought them to a swamp and his own nose wrinkled at the smell. So far he wasn't loving this place at all and he couldn't see how any of her family had ended up here. It still seemed pretty hopeless but he didn't dare say so. A part of him wanted to look elsewhere, but he couldn't find it within himself to argue the point.

"You don't really think they would have come here, do you?" He questioned her with a fair amount of hesitance in his voice.

Instead of questioning her sense of direction, he questioned her reason for being her. Which, perhaps, wasn't much better. But his doubt, and the smell and dampness of the swamp hadn't damped her good humor. She smiled across at her friend, and nodded her head forward at the swamp around them. “It looks like a place you might find strange herbs, and maybe even healers looking for them” she tried to explain her reasoning. “I doubt we'll find Terrae so soon after starting, but we might find another healer that knows him. Besides, I don't want to leave any stone upturned” she finished, nodding her head sharply, and thinking her points terribly logical. Perhaps that was very much like the past, she believed what she was saying and she hoped she still had the power to convince Tar of it too.

She started walking in the direction she had indicated,. Nodding her head up and down to the wind, trying to catch any scent of, well, anything. Her tail waved gently behind her, and her ears where perked up in excitement and curiosity. Even if they found nothing at all but mud and stink on their paws by the end of us, she was still out here adventuring with Tar, and there was nothing in the world she wanted more.

Trick!

Seraphiel gets a trick!

The temperature around them drops at an alarming rate, carrying with it a fierce gust of wind that whips up the stench of the swap. A feeling of dread washes over both of them, changing the whole atmosphere into something much darher and heavier than before. Seraphiel loses 16 gems!

Ray merely smiled at him and he found himself wishing he had her sense of adventure and good spirit. Instead all he could feel was an uneasy sense of dread wash over him. There was no way in hell they could be here. They were crazy for walking around in this dark scary place. Who in their right mind would come here of all places. Her explanation of herbs scattered over the area didn't make him feel too much better, but he grudgingly accepted it. He hadn't had any training in healing yet, but he couldn't doubt the significance of the place if useful plants really did grow here.

"I suppose you're right." He said slowly, not really wanting to admit it himself.

They padded around for a bit more, Tar's resolve barely hanging on by a thread, when the wind suddenly picked up. His uneasiness grew and he came to a halt and shifted nervously on his large paws. Something about this place felt completely wrong and the air became chillier than it was. He couldn't suppress the shudder that ran its course through his body and the dreadful feeling he felt earlier came back stronger than ever. He got the feeling that they weren't meant to be here and it was only increasing by the minute. He looked worriedly at his friend and tried to find some comfort before his courage completely left him.

It was hard to get past the smells of the swamp, the overly sweet scent of mud and ripe vegetation was enough to set anyone's nose twitching in agitation, and it was difficult to tell if any wolves had been through her recently. She was glad she had Tar at her side, and found herself stepping closer to him as the sun fell behind a cloud, and the long, vine-covered trees native to the swamp seemed to stretch long shadows across their path.

It could definitely get spooky here fast, and the fur along her back rose, she was getting the sensation of a bad feeling that her good mood couldn't shake. Tar was shifting nervously beside her, his equally large paws rocking back and forth with his weight, and she turned her glance over to him. The dampness from the fog clung to his rich, dark coat, adding a glittering touch of silver to his tones. His brilliant, dual toned gaze found her, and she could read the worry in his gaze. He might be older, and equal height to her, but ever since her father had found she had built a possessive, protective, connection over him. She grinned bold,y fighting back her own shiver. “If this fog holds up, we could miss any clues by miles, perhaps we should try again on a clearer day?” she offered him, not giving any hint to that fact that she wanted to get out of there as much as he did. “Come on, the way out was... this way” she turned back the way they had come, and fought the path and scent trail they had left behind was hidden behind the lacy covering of fog that had begun to settle over their world. She shrugged, unperturbed, and started walking.

How was she so calm and brave? He admired her for it and yet he couldn't find it within himself to display the same amount of courage. She just grinned at him brazenly and she appeared so nonchalant despite how eerie and creepy this place was. He wanted nothing more than to leave and yet he wasn't going to risk the possibility of missing any clues of her family. He wanted to find them for her sake. He was still unbelievably mad at them, but that could all be sorted out later. So he put on a brave face and tried his best to will himself forward.

Relief flooded through him when Ray noticed the fog. He nodded absentmindedly as he looked around. It really was pretty foggy and everything was dark and damp. They would definitely miss things with such bad lighting. He wasn't happy about the thought of coming back another day, but so long as it wasn't today he supposed he could deal with it. So he nodded and padded after her back the way they came from.

"Where should we look next?" Hopefully somewhere less creepy. He thought to himself.
