So Cool

The summer heat had begun to ebb. She was both disappointed and relieved. The heat had been relentless on her dark pelt, but now it was harder to stay out late when it would get chilly. A breeze would oft stream through the plains and comb her pelt. All in all; Abaven felt... Calm. Quiet. But it was not so. Every day she felt the animosity between herself and Tyranis growing; and she found her chestnut eyes fixated on him, baffled. Why did he lie like that? How could he lie so easily? She envied him for his two-faced lifestyle. She envied Corentine for her world of calm. She envied Derecho; for it seemed Derecho was much like herself, but somehow played the part better. She envied Cloudburst for his elusive body. Yes, envy was growing with the young pup, but it was not the only emotion she felt. She felt love, overwhelming love for all of her siblings. She would play and growl and pretend to protect them. They were a family, after all. They all had the same mother - even if they couldn't get along. They belonged together, in some way, she believed. Thus she would fight for them always.
Her large paws had carried her towards the rapid in clumsy steps. She had begun to grow and felt uncomfortable with her size. Her brother still towered over her; but she was coming close to his height. She felt unnaturally large for her age. Thus her run was lopsided and she suffered the pain of frequent growth spurts. She could still smell some of the scents from the pack meeting. It was mid-afternoon and quiet today. She had wandered off by herself but when she came here, her nose was flooded with scents and her brow knit, trying to remember which scent belonged to whom. There was something else on her mind but it had been pushed back; so easily was she distracted...
