Carryout

Gryphon prowled through the dried-out grasses of the plains. He was near what was left of a normally-full creek. The creekbed was mostly barren now except for a rivulet in the center, but there were a few spots here and there large enough to be worth drinking at for the herds. He was watching a small herd of blackbuck drinking there now, thirsty enough to not be so wary as they usually were. There were't many of them, just the buck with three does and a couple first-year doelings, so they had fewer eyes and ears to keep watch for danger. There wasn't much time before they drank their fill and moved on, so if he wanted to get one, he'd need to move fast.
But not too fast - he was careful to back away slowly so he didn't rustle the dried grass too much, until he was at a safe distance where he could observe them without disturbing them, then raised his muzzle and called for the pack's other hunters. He couldn't get one of these things alone. They were fast, way too fast for him to catch even one of the doelings on this open ground, without an ambush. And an ambush just wasn't likely to happen for a solo wolf in this wide-open area.
Keeping an eye on the blackbucks, he settled in to wait. Hopefully the other hunters showed up in good time. The pack needed feeding.

For once, Ramsay was actually nearby when a howl rang out,
calling for hunters to show for a pack hunt. He didn't think twice about responding - his belly was rumbling, and he was sure the rest of the pack would be wanting to fill up, too. It was time he started getting involved and making a difference in Talis. Black paws carried him swiftly on lean legs toward the source of the howl. Making his way across the plains, he stopped briefly at a small, trickling stream of water to quench his thirst briefly before carrying on. It was then that he noticed the small herd of blackbucks in the distance, drinking the same water just downstream from him. He crouched down,
slowly making his way into the tall grass where his blonde fur would camouflage him well.
Realizing that the blackbucks must be the pack's target for this hunt, he inhaled the scents around him so that he could find the hunter that had called. He sifted through the grass, following a somewhat familiar scent until he found Gryphon. His tail waved in a low-key greeting, though he said nothing as he approached the brute. He would wait with the hunter until others arrived, and make himself useful where he could.

Esarosa had been thinking about gathering the pack for a hunt, so she was glad when she heard a familiar voice ring out to do the job. Gryphon would be the perfect wolf to lead a pack hunt, so the woman set off gleefully toward the call. She was more than happy to help out in this hunt. She arrived just in time to see another wolf joining Gryphon, a blonde and black-marked young male. Oh right, that was the wolf that had recently returned to Talis, having been born here. Her emerald orbs blinked as she looked over the two young males. It seemed not so long ago that both of them were bumbling pups. Even her own children were growing too fast. Where did the time go? Shaking her head as she cast away those thoughts, she approached the two, tail whisking back and forth. "Hey guys!" she called out, moving to place herself close to Gryphon, "What are we hunting today?" A bubbly smile was fixed upon her face as she looked to Gryphon, briefly glancing to Ramsay and offering a nod of greeting, before looking back to the hunt leader. Bright as she was, she hadn't noticed the herd in the distance beyond the tall but dried and withering grasses yet. |
