Hunting Event
As the temperatures in the far west of Boreas begin to grow even warmer, prey starts to become more active, especially in the farthest reaches of the continent... including Scaled Island! One animal in particular here - a large black and white tegu, with a length of nearly four feet - has wandered to the edge of the island, away from the other creatures here, and seems to be injured and weak. One wolf won't be enough to take down this beast - and beware it's lashing tail and surprisingly strong bite if you try to take it down!

Brandr had wandered far to the west. The winter in Abaven had been rough and with everything going on and the thread of new invaders he'd needed a walk to put his mind at ease. Well… swim, technically. Brandr crawled out onto a new island and shook out his coat, pausing to lap a little at the salt that clung to his fur. He hoped he wouldn't shrivel up or something. He'd never been swimming in salt water though he'd seen and smelt the ocean before, even tasted it as a pup.
Brandr started trotting along, nostrils flaring as he explored the island and tried to get a sense for what sort of life lived here. If there was anything. Maybe he'd found his own deserted island. Movement caught his eye and quickly squashed any notion of solitude. Brandr whipped his head to the side to see a giant black and white lizard. Oh lord, what the frick was that? Brandr took a few steps back. Had it seen him?

This land was still very much new to Faelene and while she was cautious about where she placed her paws, Faelene would run from nothing, she shied from no creature and she bowed to no soul. The earthen hued femme was a Romanian Gypsy and this life of nomadic pleasures was the only life she knew. Bold, brazen and with a tongue that could slice deeper than any fang, she wasn't afraid. She moved with grace and elegance but more importantly arrogance. It was in the way her skull was held high, the way her silver eyes were narrowed in harsh judgement and the way her ears remained pinned against her skull.
An unusual scent drew her keen attention and, now curious, the Romanian turned and followed the scent until she came upon a male and... an overgrown lizard. It was more massive than any reptile she'd ever seen but immediately her hackles rose and sharp ivory teeth glistened. The male back pedaled. Faelene snorted. "Are you a wolf or a mouse? Prepare your fang. Fight." Faelene's tongue lashed, the harsh Romanian accent snapping from her tongue like the lash of a whip.

Brandr eyed the lizard, he was fairly certain it had seen him but it didn't seem to care all that much. Perhaps he was far enough way that the lizard didn't seem him as a threat or perhaps it simply didn't see many wolves on this island. A voice spoke out and he turned to see a fair-sized woman with an earthen pelt. He scowled. "Pardon me for not wanting to put my mouth on the first thing I run into here." He still wasn't entirely sure if the thing was venomous or not. It wasn't brightly colored like most of the venomous things he'd come across but it was always difficult to tell.
He took a few steps forward, delicately scenting the air. "Do you know what this is? I don't think it's venomous… but I'm not completely sure." He turned to the woman with a grin and quipped, "Why don't you go poke it and find out?"

Faelene's tail twisted, the elongated appendage having a mind of its own as it twined through the air. Every muscle, every nerve, every fiber of her being was tightened and poised to strike like a coiled viper. Her silver eyes never strayed from the errant creature even as the brute returned her command with a snap of his own. Faelene's lips threatened to twitch up into the smallest of smiles but she repressed it. The boy had spunk. That was more than she could say for most. "So instead you harbor the weakness of hesitation and unease. Excuses turn circles, boldness lights the world on fire." Her thick Romanian accent cracked through the air almost instantly. Faelene was not a dull creature by any means and while her brazen outlook on the world around her was something either revered or hated, she refused to be meek or mild.
She lowered her bodice, bending her limbs, extending her tail and lowering her skull to be level with her spine. [b]"I am from Romania copil (child)... we have many oddities, but our lizards remain the right and proper size. Still, it is just that, a lizard and since you seem paralyzed by terror, it appears I am forced to be the one to go and poke it." The thick accent rumbled up from her chest and without any further hesitation, Faelene lunged forward. She moved like an agility dog, weaving in an unpredictable pattern and at the last second she bounded to the left of the beast and lunged towards his right side. Her teeth snapped quick and harsh, a bite meant to injure but not to maim as she released him just as quickly and bounded out of range as the lizard twisted to strike out at her. It was fast... this would prove a greater challenge than she thought. A smile did spread across her face. The hunt was on!

Brandr barked out a laugh and sighed at the woman. My, my wasn't she full of herself? Barging in without first assessing a situation was a great way to get injured or killed. He supposed she was brave, he'd give her that at least but it was not his nature to charge in blindly. "What you call hesitation, I call assessment and planning." Brandr wasn't quite sure what to make of her comment on boldness. In his opinion boldness could also set your ass on fire if you didn't pair it with some good old fashioned common sense.
Brandr crouched down and eyed the tegu as it puffed up and hissed. This was not going to be an easy thing to kill. He snorted at her comment and grinned. "Oh, yup, that's me totally paralyzed by fear." His voice dripped sarcasm but he remained where he was, eager for the woman to get the thing agitated so he could examine the creature. Lizards weren't his preferred prey. Most were to small to be worth more than a snack and he wasn't overly fond of the meat. Brandr didn't think of himself as using the woman, not really, it was just team work. She wanted to charge in, he wanted to hang back and together they could compensate for one another. Come to think of it he was getting rather hungry. Brandr didn't kill for sport very often but maybe it would be worth killing and eating the creature to give him fuel for the journey back to Abaven.
The woman charged forward and Brandr's golden eyes focused intently on the lizard. His sharp gaze assessed the creature as it twisted to bite at the woman, thankfully missing. Massive muscles covered it's jaws and neck. These were the sort of jaws that would lock in place once a bite was achieved and the teeth that curved back were perfect for shredding flesh but did not seem like the kind that might inject venom. "Nicely done, it doesn't have he right sort of fangs for venom but the jaws compensate with power, they will lock if a bite is achieved." There was also the problem of the thick muscles of the jaw also protecting the throat.
A bite from this tegu would be nasty but knowing that he was unlikely to be killed by a single bite Brandr felt emboldened. He stalked toward the lizard and it whirled to face him. Quietly her crouched down watching that whip-like tail lash violently back and forth. Brandr pounced to his right, watching the thing follow him but then it turned back to the woman and then back to him. Brandr kept himself opposite of Faelene to keep the lizard guessing from where the next attack occurred. He trusted the woman to keep the lizards attention. Brandr fell still, his muscles tensing, his body coiling tight like a spring. He had a plan in mind and as soon as the back of the lizards head was turned toward him his body exploded into action as he closed the distance in one leap, twisting his head violently to his right, fangs piercing into the back of the creatures neck just back from the head.
The lizard began to twist and flail it's tail lashing through the inside of his hind legs leaving light gashes that brought blood to the surface of his skin. Good grief it was strong! Brandr's jaws ached but he held firm trying to lift the creatures head so Faelene could get at the throat.
