ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE

ooc. liquid timing this to a lil closer to springtime, if not right in the spring

Today, the adventure was closer to home. The littler pups were sticking close to the den, but the girl couldn't shake her wanderlust. So, she just took a trip to the caves down the way. They were pretty close to home, and she hadn't been there yet. Sathanus said there were some neato paintings there, but had told her after that if she told anyone that Sath liked them Sath would eat her.

So she told everyone she just wanted to see the other caves. Nothing about pretty pictures. Exaggerated strides carried her into the maw of the caverns, legs waddling to the sides for no reason at all. Kicking one out, then the other, she kept going. Where were the pretty pictures? Wait- what was that? Forget pictures, this was amazing.

Bounding closer, she inspected the strange little thingie. It was growing on the floor, next to a lil puddle. It had a long stalk, like a flower, or a tree. But instead of a flower or branches, there was a big hat on it. There was no grass on the hat, or anything else. There were also more of them further back, little ones that looked like eyes in the shadows. Oh no, don't think about eyes. That's scary. One pale paw stretched out, only shaking a little bit. She prodded it sharply, and immediately recoiled. It wobbled a bit, and stood still again.

"What's you?" She demanded of the small thing, frowning at it.

ooc. (again) it is a mushroom

But you'll never find the answers, until you set your old heart free

Spring was here at last! Lydia strode out of her small den to take in the slightly warmer air. Here in the north it was difficult to tell as snow still clung stubbornly to the ground but the trees were beginning to green and the birds were singing to their heats content. Lydia had stayed in the north through the winter. After that experience, harrowing as it was, she had gained a new self-confidence. She'd faced down winter in the north as a loner. That had to be worth something and she was as far away as she could get from the monsters that had enslaved her.

Her wandering took her through the mountains when a small cave opening caught her attention. Lydia was careful. Spring meant waking bears and to traipse into the den of a cranky bear was a quick way to get torn to pieces and eaten. When she was certain there was no need to be afraid she slipped into the cave and began to explore. As she weaved her way through the caverns she was stunned to find a little black and white pup in the caves. "Oh, hello? Are you lost little one? You shouldn't be down here by yourself."

ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE

Click, clack, click. Someone was here too! Did they know what the weird thing was? It didn't make any noise yet, so it obviously wasn't alive. What a weird thing, it was. She looked around, trying to find the new wolf. There! Blending in really well in the dark. "Oh, hello? Are you lost little one? You shouldn't be down here by yourself." She said. The girl snorted, face screwed up in disbelief. "Pffsh, naw!" She giggled, craning her neck to look over her shoulder. "Having an adventure. Mama is.. spring cleaning? Dunno. Papa's huntin'." She told the strange lady. Why did all the adults think she was lost? Silly adults.

"What's this?" She demanded, more than asked. Sticking one paw out, she pointed to the strange thing. Tapping it again with her paw, she was a little too rough this time. The weird stem broke, making an audible snapping sound. The weird hat toppled to the ground. A horrified gasp was punched from her lungs. "Oh no!" She cried. "Broke him!" Yet again, she felt tears welling up in her eyes. She broke it! Killed it, maybe! She was a murderer! Papa was gonna be so mad! "Killed him!" She wailed, panic in her eyes as she spun around to the strange lady. She had to help! Had to!

ooc: so sorry for the wait!

But you'll never find the answers, until you set your old heart free

Lydia was deeply concerned for the pup and wondered what neglectful parents would let her wander into caverns unescorted. She still felt there was a good chance they were nearby and so she kept her distance. She didn't want to be seen as a threat to anyone's young. However, her nose rarely lied and she didn't catch the scent of anyone else nearby. The girl confirmed that her parents weren't anywhere, her mother cleaning and her father hunting. She supposed the girl was about six months old but all the sameā€¦

Lydia blinked as the girl asked about the mushroom. "That is a mushroom." She wasn't quite sure what kind, it would require further examination but before she could look it snapped off it's root and the girl became very upset. "Oh no, it's alright! Really, it's fine. I'm sure it will grow back, it's like a plant you see?" She padded closer, in truth she wasn't sure if it would grow back like a plant would but she hated to see the girl panic over it. "Besides, if you wanted to gather it for medicinal purposes you'd have to break it off anyway. These plants were put here by a great and wise spirit to aid us. Although I don't think this one is for helpful medicine."

ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE

Her chest was hurting from how hard she was heaving out her sobs, but she could mostly hear the lady speaking. She tried to listen, over the sound of her heart pounding in her ears. "Oh no, it's alright! Really, it's fine. I'm sure it will grow back, it's like a plant you see?" It would grow.. back? Weird. Her heaving sobs began to subside, leaving only wet sniffles in their wake. That, and the occasional hiccup. All of the sudden, the strange lady was looming next to her. She was looking at the dead.. mushroom. Only it wasn't dead. Sleeping? If it wasn't dead, it must be sleeping.

"Besides, if you wanted to gather it for medicinal purposes you'd have to break it off anyway. These plants were put here by a great and wise spirit to aid us. Although I don't think this one is for helpful medicine." What? The lady's words didn't make any sense. She understood helpful spirits, and wondered if perhaps they were tricksters after all, playing with the young pup's fragile heart. The other words didn't make sense. Med.. icinal. Medicinal. She sniffled pitifully. What did that mean? "What's med.. mEH.." This was a hard one. A shaking breath was pulled in, and then out. "Mediss.. Medicinal?" Whew! Finally, it sounded right. What did it mean, helpful medicine? Was there a different kind? "For helping? I wanna help!" Excitement wormed its way into her heart, and she found herself trembling with glee. She gazed up at the woman for a moment, wondering what she knew. So much, she was so smart. She knew what the mushroom was, obviously she was smart!

But you'll never find the answers, until you set your old heart free

Lydia was relieved as the girls sobs began to subside. Despite her experience as a healer she had not worked much with children. She'd been one of the younger members of her pack and most of the medicine and bedside manner she'd learned was for adults and the elderly. Hunting injuries and respiratory injuries had been the most common until the coming of war and then everything had fallen swiftly to pieces.

"Medicinal? Oh it means the plant is used as medicine. It makes sick wolves feel better." Lydia tried to choose her words more carefully. She didn't want to overwhelm the girl. The girl suddenly got excited, stated that she wanted to help. A healing lesson perhaps? "Ok, you can help me. I was going to explore these caves a bit more then go to Gale Gorge to gather some Agrimony. Would you like to come with me?"

ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE

Oh, cool! The lady knew how to make everyone feel better? That was so awesome! She glanced at the mushroom. Not that one, though. That was not a helping one, for making everyone better. Bad mushroom. She looked back to the blue eyed lady, wondering what else she knew. Was it lots? It was probably lots. "Ok, you can help me. I was going to explore these caves a bit more then go to Gale Gorge to gather some Agrimony. Would you like to come with me?" Now, the young girl didn't know what Agrimony was, but she was ready to find it.

Bouncing on her toes, she was wriggling with excitement. She bobbed her head vigorously, tail wagging furiously. "I'll help!" She bounded a few feet further into the caverns. Once they saw everything, they could go on another adventure, and look for Agrimony. Maybe she should ask what it looked like. Yeah, good plan. She remembered why she had come here in the first place. "I know a secret! Caves have secret!"

But you'll never find the answers, until you set your old heart free

Lydia was pleased that the girl would go exploring with her. It would be nice to have some company for awhile and she felt better knowing she could help keep an eye on the youth. The girl bounded forward further into the caverns. "A secret? What secret is that?" She followed after the girl, encouraging her to go ahead and explore. Lydia scrambled over the rocky terrain before realizing she didn't know the girls name. "My name is Lydia by the way, what's yours?" She drank deep of the damp air in the cave, not knowing quite how to feel about the deep, dark space. Curiosity drove her deeper down despite the feelings of anxiety starting to bubble in her stomach.
