It Hides in Darkness
☥ It seemed to take forever for the winds to calm enough so that he could part company with the girl he met and explore more on his own. He climbed through Dreamer's Col and made his way further north, moving along the path of least resistance as he trekked up the crumbled mountain pass. Cold green eyes landed on a dark spot in the mountainside and he followed until he came upon the opening to a cave. In a rare display of emotion, Reaper waved his tail once and then let it parallel with the ground once more, showing his pride in himself and a satisfaction that he rarely got to enjoy. Without hesitation, the beast plunges into the darkness that offers shelter from the biting cold of the northern winter winds. Once inside, the tri-colored male stopped to wait for his eyes to adjust to the abyssmal darkness. ☥ Reaper blinked at what he saw once his eyes drew in enough light to see, strange patterns that looked like animals appeared on the walls of this cave, and there was a faint smell of onion, though it was stale and likely to be very, very old. In the center of the cave was a small bundle of sticks, undisturbed and dormant, the remnants of an extinct species. Bones littered the floor of the cave, though Reaper knew by the lack of a death scent that the bones were ancient and had been here, not carried in from outside. There were what looked to be straw beds and even some animal skins laying about. As weird as the place was, Reaper had found a suitable shelter for himself. ☥He lay relaxing in the entrance to the cave, this particular one had been cut off from the world by a tunnel collapse. It was most likely the same geological event that caused the rubble in the Col. The sky was grey, darkening by the second, and Reaper watched as snow began to fall with mixed rain and ice. Thankfully, the clever bastard was smart enough to get out of the weather. The cave was plenty big enough for him and even a few others to fit comfortably in, though Reaper was reluctant to share anything. He still needed a wolf who could tell him about the place he had come to. More than just a few things anyway. He needed to know more so that he knew where he needed to start on his own goals. There were things to do, and the brutish male needed help in succeeding. Even if it came in the form of a few details, he would have to play nice...again. A small growl left him, but he closed his eyes and silenced himself soon after. Socializing was always a pain in the ass, especially when idle prattle made him want to eat faces. Solana had managed to get herself all turned around and somehow had ended up back in the thrice damned northern part of the continent. How anyone could figure out their way around when the landscape was dotted with similar looking forests and fields she had no fucking clue. All she knew was that when she found herself trudging through the snow again she had was in for a lot of swearing and desperately trying to get back to where she'd come from, not that she could tell one tree from the next. But she'd have taken the forest right now over wherever she was now, at least the trees gave shelter from the cold wind, her sagging, skin thin coat did nothing to keep her warm and some part of the woman wondered if she was just going to die out here. That'd be fitting, an outcast of the only place she'd ever belonged; disowned from her family and who knows how far away from the only person she'd ever given a single shit about- what more fitting punishment could she get for having betrayed her only friend... the only wolf she'd ever loved. The stubborn part of her, the part of her that had made her cling to life even as a pup abandoned in one of the most hostile places on the face of the whole fucked up planet, kept her marching ever forwards, her head ducked and shoulders hunched to try and combat the wind; it kept her scanning for any shelter she could find. Finally she spotted an opening in a the mountain that rose up along the horizon. With a sigh of relief the woman picked up her pace, trotting towards the rock formation. Maybe it was the unfamiliar scent of the snow and the moisture hanging on the air or maybe she was just so out of it right now that she didn't notice the male lounging in the mouth of the cave until she was only a few feet from him. Solana stopped short, passing her gaze over his form, unsure. She wasn't in any particular mood to be particularly social right now and but she also knew she needed to get out of the wind and the open. "Talk" Think |
