As the sun went down we ended up on the ground

The boy was out and about that spring morning with Houdini riding in between his shoulder blades as per usual. The night before had brought rain to the land and Gavroche welcomed it -- he had always loved the smell of rain. Houdini however was feeling a bit moody after the storm, however. Gavroche couldn’t help but chuckle as he listened to the small creature chatter to herself behind him, cursing the weather and the fact that she had to be out and about this early with him.
“You could have stayed home in the den you know.” The boy pointed out. His words weren’t unkind, a soft hum following them. Gavroche was actually in a wonderful mood. He was happy… even if he was far from home, far from everything he had known… he was happy. He was sure he’d be able to make a new beginning here. Even if it would take time to get used to everything.
The boy paused, sniffing the air. He was on the search of a plant he had spotted here a few days ago. He didn’t know why he hadn’t gathered it then… but alas he had made the mistake of not doing so. His ears perked and the winged wolf stretched his wings ever so slightly as a smile crossed his features. Ah well! At least that meant he had the day to find it!
