Epitaph

The sun had slipped behind a few stray clouds, bathing the male in a soothing shade for a few moments. He was lounging in the plains today, taking a break from the sudden workload thrust upon him by the catastrophe that had struck his home. He had been treating wounds left and right, and it was wreaking havoc on his fragile form. His lame hind leg ached, knee swollen by the constant activity with limited time to rest in between. He refused to turn anyone away if he was needed, and found himself exhausted by the middle of the day recently. Regardless, he would push through. He could sleep once the day wound down, and everyone else was resting.

This afternoon, however, saw a brief respite for the male. He had opted to take advantage, while a few precious herbs dried on a boulder in the sun a few yards away. Flat on his side, limbs stretched loosely outwards, he let his eyes fall shut. The onyx male was beat, but he had convinced himself he was merely going to rest his eyes and let his lame leg rest. Nothing more...
