Corvus hadn't done this much fishing in a long time, but surprisingly.. he wasn't quite sick of it yet. No, it'd been a welcome distraction from everyday life for him - he'd gotten to spend time with his brother and even talk to Shaye. Both things left him feeling much better about everything that had been happening in his life lately, and he hoped the optimistic perspective he'd conjured up wouldn't falter when he went back home to Abaven.

He didn't want to think about going home though.. not yet, not when he was still having fun here. Maybe they could even come back someday, most of Abaven, for a little getaway of their own? He grinned at the thought as he crouched near the shoreline, eyes narrowing as she scanned the water. Fishing really wasn't his thing, but he was trying - and hopefully getting better at it with some practice. It was a decent enough way to get a quick, small meal without expending too much energy, even if it wouldn't feed the entire pack back home.

The water shimmered effervescently as the waves lapped at the shore, making it hard to see exactly what might be lying beneath the surface. He'd had more luck catching fish further out, so slowly he waded forward into the cold waters, one step at a time as his sea-green gaze searched the water intently for anything of interest. Seeing something moving deeper in the water, he took a deep breath and lunged forward, parted jaws hoping to snatch something up.

Valdis' fire was so warm and welcoming that she had spent a considerable amount of time there attempting to pull in as many fish as possible. Once her dug out little cache was full, she turned in her fish but she knew her hull did not even compare to some of the other wolves as they brought in their own. She was determined to at least bring in one more round of fish before the night was over.

While venturing back out to the shore, she noticed the red bandana around the neck of a very large man. She always loved adornments, especially more delicate looking jewelry- it surprised her she didn't pick any of her own from the castle down in Auster to keep. She smiled as she followed him out to the beach, stalker-esque. As he waded out into the deeper water, she sighed.. he was much taller, so keeping up with him out here was going to be a challenge.

...but, she liked challenges. And challenging.

He seemed so focused on his fish, was he ignoring her? She hoped not, but honestly, she was trying to be a little stealthy. Her pale eyes followed the water where he was heading and she closed in on his trajectory, hoping to catch a fish if he managed to scare one away. Once he did, she was sure to snatch it out of the water before it ever entered his possession and flash him a little grin from around the scales. She bound back to the shore without a word and began to dig out yet another little hole to keep her fish.

He'd never been the best at paying attention to what was going on around him.. or at least not as much as he should be, if he was being totally honest. He was fully focused on fishing, and hardly noticed the approach of another until it was too late. Moments like these made him wonder if he really was fit to be a Blackthorn in Abaven - what if this was an enemy? Plenty of familiar wolves were here, so maybe he shouldn't worry so much... but when he finally noticed someone nearby, he appeared visibly startled, twisting around with widening eyes.

But.. she didn't look like she was trying to do anything wrong. Just fishing, like him? He narrowed his eyes, watching her bound away with the fish she'd caught, returning to shore and digging at the sand to find a spot to put it. He forced a more friendly expression after a moment, twisting around completely to face her, offering a polite smile - though it was a small one. "You - uh - doing the fishing derby too?" Corvus asked awkwardly, regretting the question as soon as he'd asked it. Of course she was. Duh. "I'm Corvus," he added as an afterthought, though he was pulled away from speaking by a flash of color near his paws, as he leaned down to snatch up another fish before it got out of his grasp.

She giggled at his initial reaction, absolutely enjoying herself for bringing it out of him. He seemed startled by her presence and that more than amused her, though of course, she meant absolutely nothing ill-willed. After she cached her fish, she bound back out into the ocean, her lengthly legs helping her leap over some of the waves to save time as opposed to just barreling through them. She simply did not have the mass for that.

She got nearer to him once again and he asked about the fishing tournament, to which she would only nod slowly while her pale eyes kept on him. She grinned, thinking to herself 'yeah, dumby', but her voice only came out in a soft laugh.

"Hello Corvus, I'm Moon." She gave a charmed smile and got back to her fishing strategy of spooking them until they showed their fins and snatching them up with quick reflexes. Once she was satisfied with another catch, she strolled back up to shore and added it in. She wasn't sure what his plan was, but just to be nice she started digging him out a hole next to her own.

"You can use this to keep your fish safe while you look for more, Corvus. It makes it so much easier!" She raised her voice enough for it to ring across the sound of the waves and reach him before she hopped back over the waves out to where they were fishing.

Why was he so painfully awkward? Ugh. Luckily this female didn't seem mean-spirited, though he likely would've quickly adjusted his expression if it seemed like she was being a jerk to him. He might be a little awkward, but he still had pride.. so hopefully the way she was laughing was as light-hearted as it sounded to him. He let his smile remain, though made sure to turn to see what exactly she was doing - just in case.

"Nice to meet you, Moon," he greeted her, his voice muffled with a mouthful of fish as he dipped his head as he lifted himself from the water and moved slowly toward the shore. He was surprised when she acknowledge the hole she'd started digging was for him. For a split second he wondered if this was some kind of trap - maybe she was going to snag up his own fish and call them hers - but the thought disappeared as quickly as it came. He didn't care much about winning, despite wanting to make his family and his pack proud.

"Thanks. That's a good idea," he said in regards to the hole she'd dug, his words genuine as he ambled back to the shore to drop the fish he'd caught so far into it. "Are you from around here?" He asked after a moment, glancing her way as he waded back into the shallows. He supposed Abaven was somewhat lucky; the journey here was pretty short, all things considered. His grin lifted slightly even as he turned to dive for another fish, hoping to get lucky again.

Moon was honestly getting tired of fishing, and she was quiet happy with what she had accomplished already. Like Valdis had watched over her own fish and kept them from flopping away, she decided to rest her weight down next to the two holes she had dug out and ensure that there were no escapees.

"I'm from everywhere."She had to call out for her voice to reach him, but she did eventually answer. She had been traveling so much for practically her whole life, that is what it felt like. She had distant memories of the Wreckages and all her family, but so much time had passed.. when she was with them in Kesali, everything felt.. different. Her family and where she came from was estranged, the world was her home now.

"What about you?" She smiled, shifting her weight so that she could face him each time he came back up to the shore to deposit his fish. She was getting tired, but there was no way she had the energy to swim across the ocean. That would have to wait until the morning, so she really did not mind spending the evening chatting until the stars took the sky over, as long as he didn't.

Score! He sunk his jaws into a pleasantly plump fish, bearing down on it until he felt it slacken in his jaws. Instantly he headed back to shore - and subsequently toward Moon, and the hole she'd so gracious dug for him. Dropping the fish at his paws and batting it into the hole, he raised a brow in question as he faced her, wondering what she meant. She was from.. everywhere? Didn't she mean nowhere? Or maybe he was just thinking about it all wrong...

Either way, she didn't have any particular pack scent on her, so he could only assume she was a loner. He wondered what sort of life she lived - though it was hard to imagine being happy on his own, wandering the lands without purpose, he could only assume that her life wasn't meaningless. She seemed happy enough, didn't she? He decided not to question her words, because he both didn't know quite what she meant, and didn't know how to politely ask for clarification. A small nod was all he could muster, focusing on pulling a few more fish from the water before climbing back to the shore for the final time, shaking stray water droplets from his coat.

"I'm from Abaven," he started with a slow smile, lifting his gaze to meet hers. When he'd been younger, he'd worried about giving up too much information about where he was from, as if it might threaten his pack's safety... but he'd since abandoned that line of thinking. If someone wanted to bring harm to his pack, they'd find a way to, regardless - and Moon didn't strike him as the threatening type. His smile lifted slightly as he continued speaking, more genuine now. "Our lands are just northwest when you swim straight back to shore. Not that far from the island. I grew up seeing this island in the distance, but... I'd never been this way until now," he admitted with a soft laugh, no longer feeling quite as awkward around her. He wasn't really the wandering type, not until lately at least, and he knew he had plenty of Boreas left to explore... someday.
