Crawl in a Hole and Die

New lands had been claimed and they were told to choose dens. Beat had stared around the meeting, waiting until everyone else left. He was watching to see which direction they went in. He went in the opposite direction. The melancholy boy decided that the best place to be would be the island that had been claimed. With the sea at his back, there would be less people coming his way. Less people to bother him. Less people to be affected by his curse.
The thin lad worked his way to the chain of small islands that would lead to the largest. Way out there. That was where he would make his den. Way out there where no one would ever find him. Getting there was going to take a lot of work. And he was rather weak from not eating enough. So Beat folded his haunches, prevalent hips sticking out like spikes, and looked out across the water. He had to gather his courage for this next bit. It might take a little while to do as he was a natural coward.

Tempo had stuck to his brother all through the meeting and as the adults started to chose their dens he had a similar feeling to that of his brother. The boy gave him space this time, however. Still, he trailed after Beat. The only connection he really allowed himself to keep right now, he was almost dependant on his brother. Tempo wasn't quite as skinny as his brother, he'd been at least eating his fill but he'd been considering taking after his brother. There was some guilt in being more plump than Beat. His dark paws carried him towards the shoreline. He understood what it was his brother was thinking. It would be easier to sequester themselves away from the main pack there. "Willing to share with me?" Tempo asked, nudging his brother with his shoulder, a friendly bump and his words were almost humorous. Much as he needed his brother Tempo also didn't want to force himself on Beat. He'd not be surprised if his brother didn't want him around. |

He'd been sitting so still and had been so deep in thought that he hadn't even heard Tempo approach. Only when his brother bumped shoulders with him did the boy blink and focus on the real world once more. Beat actually cracked a smile at his brother's presence. You couldn't curse someone that was already cursed. Both boys strongly believed that they brought death to others.
When Tempo shared his idea, Beat nodded heartily. "Of course. We might as well." He cast his gaze back out over the small chunks of island that would lead to their new den. "The further we are away from everyone else, the better." No one else needs to die, is what he wanted to say. He just couldn't bring himself to say it aloud.
Standing, Beat gave his thin body a shake, almost falling over in the process. Maybe he should eat, simply so that he could avoid being blown away by a strong wind. "Shall we go?" Not waiting for an answer, the emaciated boy padded out into the water and made his way to the first of the little islands that would lead to the main one. Once they got there, they'd find a suitable place to dig.
