Sirius was taking no chances, He had added Weeping Woods into his patrols, and often made his way through the territory in search of otherworldly birds. For the first few weeks his search had come up empty, and he hadn’t expected anything different about today. It almost came as a surprise when marshal gave a directional cry, turning his attention to the outskirts of the territory, near the sea.

The bird was perched in one of the highest points of a massive weeping willow tree, looking down at his wolven companion. Sirius moved beneath the sweeping branches, close to the trunk of the tree, losing sight of his winged companion as he did so. He contemplated the tall tree for a moment, before springing upwards. He landed on the lowest branch, his feline-like claws digging in for purchase as he balanced himself, and rose up, leaning half his weight against the trunk of the tree. It was a jump from there to the next branch, and the next, and the next. Climbing the tree was a slow, careful thing. After all, a wolf wasn’t built for climbing. He wouldn’t have managed it without the claws he had grown after the Firefly festival.

Once he reached the spot Marshal had indicated, the branches began to sway beneath his feet. Grimacing, the titan kept close to the center of the tree, where the branches where the strongest, and re-orientated himself. There. He thought quietly, as he found the nest of birds eggs. He could see why Marshal had called him to it, the eggs were larger than average, and well it was not definite, it was possibly they could have come from the large Condor species.

He swiftly destroyed the eggs, and lay down upon the branch, expecting a long wait. He did not sleep, but he did doze a little, until the wind that indicated a storm blowing in off the ocean began to stir the leaves. He raised his head wearily, as the wind picked up, blowing mightily through the trees, and the long, slim branch he lay upon rattled with its strength.

Now seemed like a very good time to disembark this rodeo. He rose cautiously to his feet, just as enough brisk wind rattled through. There was a loud crack, the world tilted sideways, and he remembered little else.

He awoke sometime later to the sound of Marshal’s cry, but when he tried to move his head, everything felt slow and strange. He groggily opened his eyes, the feel of blood seeping past his eyelids made the whole thing rather difficult. He moved a paw to wipe it free, only to find resistance to the movement. What…?

He finally managed to blink past the blood, and found himself surrounded by mud. He could not turn his head, but from what little he could see of the world around him, over half his body lay buried. He panicked, he wasn’t exactly a swimmer as it was, and a mud-lake sounded horrifying. As he thrashed, his body sunk more quickly, until only the ridges of his back, his neck, and his head was free. Heart thundering in his chest, he forced himself to still, and his sinking stopped.

As he considered his situation, he realised it was a two-way sword. If the mud had not been here, the drop from the tree would likely have killed him. As it was, he was surprised he hadn’t received a thrashing from the trees on his way down. Of course, the blood against his eyelids told him not to discount it yet. The question still remained, how did he get out of here before he suffocated in a pool of mud?

As she patrolled the area closest to the Weeping Woods, the raucous call of birds and a giant commotion strick the woman as odd. Leaving her sentry duties for later, Resin stalked off into the first of willows and streams. Up above, she thought that she saw the circling firm of a vulture, but she couldn't be sure. The spread of the willows was too wide where she stood.

Nose testing the air, she caught a familiar scent. Sirius was out the somewhere. The big fae followed the scent at a comfortable pace until the scent suddenly mixed with the rich tang of blood. Thrusting her substantial weight into her paws, the silver dame rocketed forward. Leaping over root and stream, it didn't take her long to find the prone, partially submerged body of the man. He was bloodied and the snapped branches and leaves littered around suggested a fall. As she watched, his prodigious mass began to sink. Great.

Sirius woke a moment later and began to struggle a bit. "Keep still," She warned. Padding around the edge of the quicksand, she took one of the thicker snapped branches between her serrated teeth. Moving back to where his head was, she snapped the branch out into the much, close to his mouth. She said nothing else. He would know what to do.

An order caught his attention, he was not alone here. For a moment, his senses went on high alert, tingling as adrenaline flooded his system. Here he was, vulnerable, and not alone. It took a second for the familiarity of the voice to sink in, and he realised it was Resin who stood on the shoreline, looking out at him. Not that he could turn his head and confirm that.

It took longer yet for his heart to cease its erratic flailing, and in that time Resin grabbed a branch that had likely snapped in his fall, and pushed it towards his face. His paws were well buried in the muck, and would have had no chance in grabbing it, even if their feline-tips could get enough purchase to make a difference. Resin had gone right for his head, pushing it close enough that he didn’t have to move much, to snatch the branch between his teeth. His elongated fangs sitting uncomfortably on either side of the branch.

“I would consider it a personal favour if you never mentioned this to anyone.” He wasn’t certain how much of that sentence was legible between the wood that sat upon his tongue. His priority right now was getting out of her, over keeping this hush-hush.

It didn't take him long to figure out her plan. The silly man did wait to speak until after he had the branch in his mouth, however. The black brow above her missing eye arched in question, but she didn't ask him to repeat himself. It didn't matter at the moment. Planting her paws behind a thick tree root, Resin used it as leverage to begin pulling the brute out of the muck. Claws dug into the earth and the thick muscles in her jaws, shoulders and neck flexed. At moments like these, it was difficult to believe that someone so massive had birthed a being as dainty as Iolaire.

The branch slipped more than once thanks to her teeth shearing away the bark. She had to stop to readjust and spit out bark and sap.her mouth tasted disgusting, but it was a small price to pay. Soon he would be close enough to the bank that his front legs would reach. The struggle was almost over. After, perhaps they would work on surrounding the quicksand with branches or rocks so that others might not fall inside.

Considering it was summer, it was truly bad luck that it had rained heavily enough, and the earth had been moist enough to retain the liquid. The muddy pool he had fallen into was thick enough to hold him, and act almost like quicksand as he struggled to free himself from it. Perhaps it was good luck instead of bad, after all, if the muddy earth had not been here, he could have landed on a harder surface, and this would be an entirely different story.

The dirty wolf was pulled from the thick grip of the mud with a resounding plop He was lucky it had been Resin who had found him. Most of his smaller wolves would not have had the strength to pull the titan to shore.

He scrambled the last few steps, as it became shallow enough for his paws to scrap land, and he was able to help Resin pull himself free. He stood to his feet, a few pounds heavier with thick mud coated through his fur. He grimaced, and looked back at the muddy pool. A few hot days would suck the moisture right out of it, and it wouldn’t be such a death trap. Perhaps he could look further afield and see what had trapped the water in this shallow pool of mud, so it did not happen again.

“Resin” he said, looking to his... almost adopted mother, if you looked at it right, and gave a wane smile. “Your timing is impeccable.”

With both of their combined strengths, it didn't take long to pluck the lord out of the sticky deathtrap. Once he was on dry land, Resin spat the branch aside. The taste of the willow sap was less than savory. Lips curled back from serrated teeth and she used her blue tongue to push the remnants of greenery out of her mouth. A sound of growling disgust rumbled up from within her and she peeled away to rinse her mouth with water from one of the nearby streams.

Words met black-backed ears and the giantess raised her head, water dripping from her chin. "Impeccable indeed. You may have been stuck there for a while." After lapping the water droplets from her maw, she turned to inspect his face. Motioning with a point of her nose, she spoke again in her low, gravelly tones. "Looks like you've injured yourself. Best that you go see Iolaire and get that tended to." She had faith that her daughter could heal damn near any injuries.

The mud that stuck to the man was strangely pungent, as though it had been sitting there for quite some time. Odd bits of rotting vegetation stuck to him. Her scarred nose wrinkled slightly. "You should wash first."
