Run until the sun can't see you

Theta had taken the trip to the farther reaches of her self-proclaimed territory. She didn’t want to go too far from the west just in case any of her siblings had decided to leave the pack as well and go elsewhere. She didn’t think she was quite prepared for what would happen if she found one of them, so far her plan had been working and she hadn’t seen anyone from her immediate family. She didn’t know what they would think of her actions if they found and confronted her. She knew she was in poor standing even before she left the pack, she was determined to keep running though. She’d run from those people until the day she died.
She wasn’t doing any running now though, for today was a day of observation. Seasons were changing and her territory needed to be scoped out for any major changes. What those might be she didn’t know, but she’d know if she saw them.

Wickedly sharp teeth tore through flesh and powerful jaws snapped bone like branches. The hunt had begun lands away, but the older fae's stiff, damaged shoulder had kept her from killing the oryx quickly. With bloodied haunches, it had fled. And she had followed albeit at a leisurely pace. The trail of blood was easy to follow and the loss of that blood eventually brought the ungulate to its knees. The show pace having refilled the woman's energy stores, she made short work of the beast.
Rather than eat immediately, the giantess rested her prodigious mass in the shade of a nearby tree. Today, she could feel her age. Every previously torn muscle, tweaked tendon and fractured bone ached within her. Above all, her shoulder was feeling incredibly tight. The walk ask the way home would be long and arduous, but she wasn't one to complain. After she caught her breath, she'd remove the innards to make the kill easier to drag. The one eyed dames lone orb closed to a mere slit as she lowered her blocky skull to rest upon one thick foreleg. A gentle breeze ruffled a thick black mane, aiding in cooling down the overheated fae.

Theta’s head turned as the sound of a hunt ran through the area. Somebody had run an animal to its death, they didn’t move very fast so she took that they were getting old. They laid down and didn’t take any notice of her. They didn’t seem to be anybody she recognized so there wasn’t any need to bolt off. She knew there were other wolves that went in and out of her areas and of course she wouldn’t know all of them. She had purposefully avoided any pack lands since trespassing was the last thing she needed to worry about.
Theta didn’t see much of a point in bothering the other wolf but she wondered why they didn’t immediately start eating their prey. When she killed something she ate as much as she could then and there, it avoided people stealing it or it rotting away if she didn’t eat it in time. “Hey, you gonna eat that or just lay there?” She spoke at the other wolf, not moving from her position just continuing to stand and look at the other wolf.

Black backed ears swiveled forward at the first sound of movement. The resting wild didn't raise her head from her paws for there was no need. The same breeze that had served to cool her had also brought the smell of young wolf in her direction. Soon, the scents owner came into view. A young wolf indeed. The girl looked as though she still had some growing to do.
Vocals met the woman's ears and a soft rumble reverberated through her wife chest. "It's not going anywhere, so there is no need to rush." The scarred woman lifted her head before repositioning, curling her body to lay on one side. Gruff, rasping tones continued to speak. "If you're hungry, help yourself. Less for me to drag back home." It was indeed a long trek back to Armada territory. Her shoulder would definitely be protesting then.

The other woman didn’t seem to be moved by Theta’s comment on her food, this was certainly a weird one. Food was an important resource that should be hoarded, you also didn’t just give other wolves part of your food especially not if they were strangers. Theat was very particular about her food and it got shared with no one, if they couldn’t feed themselves they weren’t getting fed. It wasn’t her problem if any random wolf starved to death, survival of the fittest as they said.
She wasn’t going to take up the offer of eating anything, she was feeding herself just fine and didn’t need the assistance of anyone to do that. What peaked her interest is that she caught the scent of a pack on the wolf. The scent of multiple wolves mingling together to make the scent of a pack, this wasn’t one she recognized. There were a few packs she was near that she didn’t know the names of but she could recognize their scents, but this wasn’t one of those packs. She wondered what would possess a pack wolf to go so far out of their way for a hunt. She probably still carried the faintest of scents of Winterfell on her, but she could tell the difference between a wolf in a pack and a wolf who had been in one. “By the smell of it you’re a little bit far from home.”

The girl seemed uncertain and perhaps slightly taken aback by the offer. She didn't make a move towards the oryx but the woman wasn't offended by it. The young wolf didn't seem to be lacking in nutrition. Even if she had seemed to be emaciated, it wouldn't have bothered her. If a hungry wolf was foolish enough to turn down a free meal, they didn't deserve that meal.
Again the girl spoke, making an observation. The one-eyed wolf nodded in response. "You're correct. We don't have these particular animals in my packs lands. This skin will be a gift for my daughter and her betrothed." Knowing that Roan would soon propose to her diminutive daughter, Resin had begun compiling a gift for the pair. She had been collecting unique skins from various animals and would present then to the pair after they spoke whatever vows they felt were necessary. To Resin, words were wind. It was actions that counted.
"Are you on your own?" The girl had made an observation. Resin made one as well, but was curious as to how the young wolf would respond. Would she lie and say that her pack was close or was she confident enough to say that she was indeed alone?

The words from the she wolf confirmed Theta’s idea that she was part of a pack. They had a daughter, they had at least done something with their years. Whether or not having a family was worth it Theta wasn’t sure, so far hers hadn’t gone so well. Bringing another wolf into this messed up world of hers didn’t seem like a good idea. Hopefully if she found Noir again they could live on together separately from all of the drama their families had caused for them.
The other wolf had asked if she was by herself, what was it to them? She was old enough to be by herself, she had proven it through her own hard work to survive. If somebody was surviving by themselves what right did anyone else have to question that? With a hint of spite creeping through to her voice she said “Yeah, I am. What’s it to you?”

The child, little more than a pup, had obviously been on her own during the stages where a wolf learns proper socialization with others. This once, Resin wouldn't hold it against her. Instead, the massive woman stood, shook out her thick obsidian and ash pelt, and then moved towards the body of the oryx. "That's how conversation flows. You inquire. I inquire."
Lowering her head, the scarred dame made short work of eviscerating the ungulate. Having ripped open the stomach, she grabbed the beasts neck between her jaws and pulled, allowing the guts to slide out into a pile on the grass. A few snips here and there, and the insides were effectively turned into outsides. The scavengers would have a field day with their free meal and Resin's catch would be significantly lighter to haul.
