Hunting

Big paws carried the large woman across the sun warmed plains. Today she was on the hunt for something special. A delicacy where she was from. It was rather comical that her sister, Meadow, had been going on about the wonders of horses seeing as how she'd just met one. Well... horses were wondrous indeed. Wondrously delicious. The scarred, one eyed woman was hoping to meet more like minded hunters while on her way to the basin. Already she'd caught the musty scent of equines. They were out there, she knew. The telltale sign of their hoof prints had been left in a few puddles distributed by a spring shower. Cresting a hill, a lone golden eye rested upon a few grazing forms. Large beasts with long manes and tails. Their hoofed feet were dangerous and there was a lot of crushing power in their long legs. And they were fast. Very fast. Should she find others to hunt with, they would have to be stealthy and very, very careful. "Speech"

The adventurous girl found herself into a sort of grassland with all green pastures and as the day was all clean and sunny the place was such a great view. A deep breath was taken into her lungs and she felt pretty much relaxed by being there. But more than just the beautiful landscape, she came here to try her luck on hunting something on her own,she was highly interested in practicing her skills,so one day she could receive a promotion to her desired rank within Valhalla. And there as she stood she spotted a very large wolf at the distance. Apparently showing interest in the hooves beats that clumsily grassed through the players. Was she going to hunt them? Should she aid? This could be an excellent opportunity to gain more experience and Aslaug wasnt going to let it pass. Crouching her body she tried to approach the larger wolf, with stealthy paws carrying her to avoid messing up with the hunt that yet to start. And as she reached the woman's side she waited for instructions. "Speech" |

The day is bright, the sun warm and Resin had left their den earlier than normal. Meadow had pretended to be asleep when her sister had left and told herself it was none of her business to follow her sister. Yet, after an hour of sleepless tossing and turning, she had decided to see where the bigger wolf was going. ‘I am just going to make sure she doesn’t hurt herself’ was the reasoning that she came up with. After all, Resin is her responsibility. Moving out into the warm sun, she had stretched out the kinks of sleep and tested the air. Picking up the trail, her nose follows Resin’s scent and eyes find the tracks. Small legs carry her swiftly over the terrain and she marvels at the changing of the scenery. When she reaches the plains, the small wolf’s eyes scan the horizon for any sign of her sister. Keeping to Resin’s tracks, she finds bigger, flat prints that remind Meadow of Goliath’s hooves. A musty smell starts to fill her nostrils and she spies Resin standing on a hill. As Meadow approaches, another wolf appears and, crouching, she advances toward the bigger wolf. The pair obviously sees something that is hidden from the smaller one’s sight. Slowing and taking a cue from the new wolf, Meadow crouches slightly as she moves toward the duo. When she makes it to her sister’s side, she finally sees what they are looking at. Horses! They graze lazily in the sun and do not seem to notice the wolves. With bright eyes she turns to Resin and says quietly, “Horses! Are we going to hunt one?” Eyes sparkle with amazement, at the thought of taking one of those beasts down. Looking to the other wolf she dips her head in greeting and stays silent. She means no disrespect to the other female, there is just a hunt to plan right now. Introductions can come later. Meadow looks to Resin for her leadership. "Meadow"

Wyndelin had gotten turned around. He'd been chasing rabbits in the basin only to find himself in a sea of sweetgrass that seemed to go on forever in every direction. Crap. He thought himself an intelligent wolf but navigation wasn't always his strong suit. Thankfully he had Flikkr with him. The magpie took to the sky to get a better view on things but when he flew down it was not with news of a way out of the basin but of a small group of wolves hunting. Well, he was rather hungry. Wyndelin followed the bird's lead until he came upon the wolves. He recognized one as the wolf he'd hunted condors with. Wyndelin quietly approached, dipping his head in greeting and looking to Resin. "Would you be alright with another set of paws? I'd only like a meal." "Talk" |

It seemed as though it wouldn't take long at all for hungry bellies to converge. First a young girl arrived, garbed in earthen colors. She was silent, but her gaze showed that she waited for instruction. Next came Meadow and Resin grinned, glad that her sister was deciding to do something other than heal. Third came another young woman who offered her services. Last came the darkly colored man that had helped her fell condors. With the quartet seated together, Resin began to speak. "Resin,She gave her name, and I am indeed looking to hunt. The horses out in the basin are my aim. I haven't had horse meat in a long while." Moving forward a bit, Resin directed their attention to the herd down below. "There's one younger stallion following the herd. He has an injury that's left his leg compromised." She assumed it was from challenging the band stallion, but she couldn't be sure. Nor did it matter. It would hamper the horses movements and, more importantly, because the injured stallion was an outsider, the others weren't likely to rush to his aid. Next she laid out her plan to the group. "If the fastest of you run the herd down the center of the basin, the other horses will break off. It will take a lot of the wind out of our target." Resin motioned to the far end of the grassy plain. "Two of us will lay in wait there. When he nears, we'll spring up in his path. Then we can all attack while he's startled." Rising from her place, she began to move off, but stopped and fixed her lone gaze hard upon each of them. "Watch the hooves. One clean kick can easily kill a wolf." She would let them decide who was coming with her and who was going to run the horse. "Speech"

More wolves came along and she could only give them a slight nod all were complete strangers for her,no one she knew. But well, she just hopped she could learn from this. She wanted to learn as much as she could to someday be a hunter for Valhalla,as she had decided from the moment they arrived. And any chance to hunt and learn was going to be taken at its fullest.Or that was her ides. The one-eyed woman started to explain what they were going to do and how to do it. Horses were the target, and she felt interested as she had never tried horse meat.Maye, she could get some meat back to the pack. So she was ready to help as much as she could. She maybe was the youngest here but that was going to stop her. Resin as she called herself as explained the plans, she was smaller so maybe she could chase. "Ill be a chaser,i can help with driving it to you." She said happily but in low voice to don't startle the herd. |

Watching as two more wolves join the small group, Meadow nods to each of them and smiles. Listening as Resin explains the plan, she nods her understanding and looks at the other wolves. Meadow is the smallest of the gathered wolves and this helps her decide what she will do. Smiling as Halla introduces herself and announces what she will do, Meadow nods respectfully. The next to speak does not give her name but says she will be a chaser. Once again nodding, Meadow speaks up, being sure to keep her voice low, “My name is Meadow and I will help chase the herd.” Another smile appears, small but bright and she dips her head in greeting. Looking to each of the remaining wolves, measuring carefully what her next action will be, Meadow looks out over the herd. Spying a hiding spot in the tall grass near the back of the herd, she looks at the remaining wolves one more time and says, “See you on the other side.” Offering one more small smile, she moves off from the group to make her way slowly to the hiding spot. Staying low to the ground and making sure she down wind of the horses, Meadow’s progress is slow but steady. She is able to make it to the spot without startling the herd and she crouches down in the tall grass, waiting for the others to get into position. Muscles coil, ready to shoot her forward when the time comes and eyes lock on the horses. She becomes very still as the chase gets ready to start. "Meadow"

Wyndelin debated what his roll in the hunt should be. He was excited to participate but also nervous about getting in the way. Most of his hunting experience was from solo hunting, not from hunting in a pack. His build and size were both pretty average. He wasn't neither exceptionally big nor exceptionally small. The woman with red in her pelt offered to help take the stallion down so Wynd decided he'd help with chasing the stallion. He was a decent runner and swift for his size. "I'll help with the chasing as well then when you both get ahold of him I can help to bring the stallion down." As long as there was an opening he saw no reason not to help. The more fangs that could spill blood the better. Even wounded a horse was going to be a risky target. "Talk" |

The bunch made their decisions as to who would take which position. With a nod and a tug of her skull, she motioned for Halla to follow. She trusted that the others would do their part in driving the broken horse into their jaws.
As she neared the spot where the ambush would take place, Resin crept lower to the ground. She tested the wind, making sure that it was working in their favor, which it was. All that she and the other ambusher had to do now was find a proper place to lay in wait.
A few bushed on either side of the chute would serve. Resin settled herself behind one and assumed that Halla would know to settle behind the other. She relaxed, allowing her muscles to loosen. Soon enough they would be tight and working hard. Peeking above the bush, she searched for the others. As soon as they were in place, they could run the horses into her awaiting jaws.

Aslaug nodded to the others who were going to chase beside her,she smiled and didnt say anything else just ready to make her part. Again the excitement was too high within her,she was more and more getting interest in this kind of big hunts, with large prey in the menu. And there without hesitation, she followed Meadow and the rest of chasers, lowering herself and stealthily. Crouched she took her position along with the others, ready to take the sign for starting the attack to drive the wounded gorse to the trap.Eyes locked into the horse and body rigid she wasnt going to move until she wast told it was fine to run. |

Meadow waits, crouched down, in the tall grass, watching the injured stallion with great intent. As the other two chasers get into place, she keeps herself low, muscles tense and ready. Mapping out what she will do in her mind, she makes her choice to take the right side of the herd since that is the side she is closest to. Taking a few steadying breathes and keeping as still as possible, she waits. Only when everyone is in place and ready to go, do her coiled muscles release and launch her forward. The wind is in her fur and she is rushing from the grass and toward the herd. Ears flick and heads turn, a warning neigh is given and they all start to stampede. Moving further out to the right side, keeping a safe distance, she snaps and snarls to guide the herd toward the trap. Hooves and paws pound the ground and Meadow does her best to steer clear of the sharp hooves that could harm or kill her. "Meadow"

Wyndelin approached the horses slowly at first, sticking to the brush and the shadows as he waited fro Resin and Halla to get into place. He kept his breathing calm and steady and as soon as everyone was in place he glanced to the other chasers and then nodded. He was ready whenever they were. Meadow was the first to charge and Wyndelin took off a split second after. He raced to the right of the stallion, seeking to cut it off from the rest of the herd. Whenever the stallion tried to twist around to join the fleeing horses Wyndelin was snap and bite to drive it back in the direction the wolves wanted it to go. At one point the stallion slowed and kicked out at him. Wyndelin deftly leapt to the side out of the way then lunged toward the stallion's right hind leg just as it landed. The stallion kicked again then took off running right for Resin and Halla. "Talk" |

Meadow started the chase and the thunder of hooves reverberated through the basin. The ground beneath the woman's paws shook and she prepared herself for the task to come. From her place behind the shrubs, she could hear the fearful neigh of a horse and the snaps and snarls of the rest of the group as they worked to cut the injured stallion from the herd. Resin cast her gaze across the opening at the woman on the other side and gave a nod. There time was at hand.
Peering through the brush, Resin gauged the timing for their attack. The stallion had been successfully cut and was moving straight towards the chute where the two large wolves lay in wait. Resin nodded twice to Halla and crouched below the brush. The injured stallion hobbled between them a moment later and Resin lunged. Teeth sank into one hind leg, but she instantly let go. An acrid, sour taste filled her mouth. She'd bitten into the puss filled wound on the stallions leg. Resin almost vomited, but managed to hold it together. The stallion had grunted loudly at the action and stumbled away in even more pain than it had previously. Blood and puss erupted from the wound, leaving a stinking trail in its wake.
After collecting herself, Resin was back on the chase. The beast couldn't outrun them. It could barely run at all, and now that the abscess on its hind leg was leaking, it was slowing considerably. She ran towards it, intent on attacking anywhere but that nasty, rotten leg.

The plan works amazingly. The stallion is cut off from the herd and driven toward the trap. Resin and Halla sprang easily from their hiding places and now have a hold of its back legs and the beast is slowing. Seizing the chance, Meadow rushes in and, with a snarl, leaps for the front right leg of stallion. Latching on as hard as she can, she drops all her weight into her rear and tries to slow the pace of the stallion. It grunts and tries to shake her off but with three wolves hanging on to it, the horse is having a hard time just staying upright. Meadow keeps holding on as the stallion slows. "Meadow"

Aslaug quickly followed the rest's moves as she ran forward ,aiming to run fast toward the now herd in panic. With eyes locked into their target she went forward hopping to be of aide to her partners. As Resin went for the injured leg,Wynderlin to another she tried to pick a target of her own.But as Resin took off the injured one,she decided to go for it and quickly she approached and would cas herself a bit onto all the puss and blood. It was nasty and she frowned upon it but for the hunt's sake she tried to stay her position, also mindful of any kick.

Wyndelin did his best to keep on the stallion, he didn't want to get kicked in the face but he wanted to be close enough to help bring the horse down when Resin and Halla attacked. There still seemed to be a bit of fight in the creature and one good kick was all it would take to kill a wolf. Resin and Halla attacked and the stallion's pace slowed. One by one the wolves latched hold. Wyndelin put on a burst of speed as the other's anchored the legs down. He saw an opening and went for it. Leaping high his fangs latched onto the stallion's throat, his weight dragging the horse's head downward as he wrapped his arms around the powerful neck to steady himself. The horse thrashed but it was a losing battle. It grew weaker and weaker until at last it was spent and passed. Wyndelin released the neck and sat down to take a moment to catch his breath. "Talk" |
