May the best fighter win.” She turned her attention to the two opponents as she added in a voice for them, “The first to step, fall, or be pushed outside the ring of stones you see around you here loses immediately. I expect a fair fight regardless. Skælingr worked his way to the sweetgrass basin where the tournament was to be held. His wife trotted along next to him. Both would be competing and he hoped they'd have a chance to watch each other. When he arrived he was paired up with another man. Ragna bid him good luck and he wished her the same before he moved into the ring. This would be a good match. His opponent was similar in size and age. Skælingr set his defenses and as Aurielle called for the fight to start he looked to Daelos and gave a sharp nod. Even though participating in the tournament hadn't exactly been her idea, she was still a bit excited to dust off her skills as a fighter. She hadn't really had a chance to do so since they got to Boreas so it would be a good chance to get herself back into the swing of things. When she walked over to the arena and saw who it was that Aurielle had paired her up with she was pleased to see that the man was pretty much exactly the same size and build as her. She was perhaps a couple inches taller than him, but barely enough to make a difference. She certainly didn't consider herself the strongest fighter so it was nice to at least be on an even playing field. She gave the man a nod as they wished each other good luck and then went to settle herself into her defensive stance and prepare herself for the fight. Once Aurielle announced the start of their fight and saw that Skælingr was giving her the floor to start their fight she took off at a run to cross the distance between them and narrow the space that had been put between them. Once she was close enough to attempt a strike of some kind, she aimed her parted jaws for his front right leg, attempting to latch her jaws around the portion of his leg just under his elbow. She tried to use the momentum of her run to dart past him with his leg between her teeth so that she might pull his leg out from under him and knock him off his feet. She wouldn't keep a hold on the limb very long if she had been able to get a hold of it at all, instead she'd release it so she could put a bit of space between them again. She'd skid to a stop just past where he was standing and turn back toward him so she could prepare herself for his retaliation. Skælingr's thoughts were everywhere but on the battle and he blinked rapidly as he realized he was actually fighting a woman. He missed that? That was not a good sign. He really needed to get it together. Daelos took off to start the fight. She charge for him and as she neared he slipped off to his left, avoiding the brunt of her attack though her lower fangs still scratched his right arm. Skælingr kicked forward seeking to run along the woman's right side. His neck rotated to his right as his jaws flung open. He attempted to bite her upper right side, a few inches in front of her right hind leg, seeking to dig in and get a good grip. He didn't really have a plan fully put together and instead opted to act on instinct. He'd just need to see how this fight went and hopefully his wife wouldn't give him a scolding when he was done. Her opponent shifted almost out of each, her teeth just barely catching his leg as she slipped past him and just leaving a few scratches across his skin. As she moved past him she quickly began to turn so that she could face him again and thanks to that movement she avoided letting him get any kind of grip on her side. His teeth did leave some pretty decent lacerations as his canine teeth scraped her side, but she as at least able to turn her body away from him to keep him from doing any more damage. She spun around so that she was now facing him again and her lower half was facing away from him. As she was turning she tried to land a quick bite on the upper portion of his right thigh before he could turn away from her, almost near his hip, since it was within her reach. She wouldn't be able to make any real kind of hold here, but it was something that she could possibly do from this position with his lower half near her - but of course that wouldn't matter if she wasn't fast enough to land that attack. She wasn't used to practicing being on the offensive so her natural tendency was to be overly defensive. Her quick bites here and there weren't going to do much damage, but at the very least she could maybe keep him from putting more damage on her end. Skælingr's fangs cut flesh but failed to grab a solid hold on his opponent as she whipped around to face him. He shifted himself seeking to curl in on himself sharply, whipping his hind end back around him as her fangs cut into his flesh. His head dove low as he sought to snag her right wrist in his jaws, his legs coiling sharply to bring him low to the ground. He did his best to maintain his defenses, seeking to keep his ears pinned and his tail tucked. He also took extra time to roll his shoulders forward to help protect his neck now that he was getting into a close quarters fight. This was risky but he he didn't want to just dance around forever.
