Dantalian galloped along a barely visible path through the woods that outlined one of lake 'toes'. She was following what used to be exclusively a bunny trail but as of late had served as her personal highway. The trail led directly to her latest fixation: a beehive. It was a fascinating thing. There were bees coming and going constantly and on clear, warm days Dantalian could hear the bees humming from a distance. She had a ton of questions. What did they do inside? Were there babies? Why did they hum? Dantalian had thought she had a good answer to the last question, but wasn't so sure anymore. Originally, when she'd first observed them buzzing about, she'd assumed they hummed for the same reason she did - because they were happy. After a painful encounter with one, however, she decided that if they were happy hummers they had an awful way of showing it.
"Here, it's right here!" she shouted over her shoulder at her mother. Dantalian then stood aside, tail wagging a mile a minute, to proudly show off her prize. She was certain her mom would get as much of a kick out of the bees as she did, which was why she had told her about them. The girl had been surprised to learn that those grumpy hummers were good for more than stinging innocent noses. Apparently they fed their babies with the stuff her mom gave her to make her better when she was sick, so now they were going to milk the bees to get more honey from them. Technically her mom hadn't said anything about milking, but it had been implied as far as Dantalian was concerned. She knew how that worked. She'd been breastfed. "See? Look at them all! There are so many. We'll get lots of honey!"
