Well this wasn't going to do, how was anyone supposed to see his brilliant beauty if he was surrounded by thick fog? Okay maybe that was the least of his worries, it was that he was definitely totally lost and turned around, and the fog was not helping.

More than anything he was hoping for someone to help him, he definitely shouldn't' have made it a point to go into the dangerous-looking swamp without at least one of his siblings, because like the worst case, he could have at least eaten them if he ended up stuck here. Except maybe Keet, she'd have kicked his ass before he could even get one bite in.

The fog was proof of why any good wolf learned the importance of scent.  Naiche had traveled this horrid place back and forth once before and he was now determined to learn it better.  Currently, it seemed a horrible place to fight, but perhaps in truth, it could be a wonderful spot if he knew it better than any other.

The fog was thick and Naiche was working to keep up with the scent of the area.  He had marked the area around the beginning of the swampland to help him should he get disoriented.  Last time had been easier, on the way he down he had followed the waterway that would eventually connect to the sea, and the way back had been close enough.  This time was all about exploring and so he was not moving along anyone set path.

Naiche wasn’t moving fast but stopping every few strides to sniff out the ground below him.  In areas the ground was too mushy he moved even slower to make sure his feet did not sink to a dangerous level.  This was not a place to be reckless.  Naiche knew there were crocodiles in the lake but he wasn’t sure with how mucky the land as if they would come much further on the land as well, something else to keep an eye on.

With all his cautious sniffing and listening there came a point where he caught the scent of the other wolf.  It didn’t smell of the two packs he knew of and it was coming in his generic direction.  Naiche remained still as he tried to listen for any sounds that would give away more about it.  He moved in the direction of its scent, and when he felt they were within a distance he could call out without having to holler he called out, “I hadn’t expected to meet another wolf here.  What brings you to this miserable track of land?”

Hyacinth could have cried when he heard the voice, you know if he wasn't a totally manly man who didn't cry, except when he stubbed a toe. He looked up, peering through the fog with narrowed eyes. "Uh, getting lost mostly." He said, searching out the form that involved and having to hold back a chuckle as he picked out an unfortunate color in the mist. It wouldn't do to mock his potential savior even as his mind was filled with pee jokes.

"Not gonna lie, I'm rather glad you did bump into me. I hope you've got a better sense of direction than I do. " He took a few tentative steps towards the stranger, paying much less attention to his footing than Naiche was and then-

suddenly the ground had sucked him up to his shoulder, at least on his right foreleg. Great. He was having a wonderful time.

The other wolf apparently wasn’t very thrilled with the land either and by the sound of things even less familiar with it.  Naiche moved towards the wolf, testing the ground and soon enough proof was shown as to why it was important.  The stranger’s front end appeared twisted as one leg shot in the ground.  Naiche’s tail and ears went up in surprise, muscles quivered as if he was about to launch over to help on instinct but then thought better of it.

“Might want to be more careful,”  Naiche wasn’t mocking him, just a fair warning. "Between the sinking ground, the croc's and snakes that hide in here, vines to trip you up, this place seems made to see how many foreigners it can kill."   His slower stride wasn’t going to win Naiche any races, but still he found enough spots that were safe for his feet that his fur color remained its wheat-goldish toned hues.  This wolf’s pretty coat would soon be a mucky shade of browns and green’s all over most likely.

“Need help?” The question was kept casual, trying to not turn the offer into an insult considering the embarrassing position the pretty-boy found himself in.

Naiche's advice might have been genuine but it wasn't exactly what Hyacinth wanted to hear, buried up to his shoulder in mud. "Great advice." He grumbled to himself. Hyacinth tried a few times, unsuccessfully to free his foreleg, but was wary of just burying himself deeper. So when the stranger offered help he had to admit defeat.

"It seems I do." He said looking up at the man. His pride was already wounded enough, he didn't really fear it taking to many more blows. And he certainly wasn't proud enough to let himself die with his leg stuck in the mud. At least not unless this stranger was volunteering to become his final meal, but he had the distinct feeling that wasn't what was on the table right now.

Another thing Naiche had on his side was size and weight, it was true that Hyacinth seemed pretty lean but he was still tall enough to weigh a good bit more than Naiche to influence how easy it was to sink.  Naiche moved in closer to look down at how the leg was buried in there.  Huh, he never actually had dealt with this scenario instead, Naiche had been smart enough to not get stuck in it.  Probably wasn’t the best thing to say right now.  “Not sure how tight of a grip I’d have to get to pull you out, might actually hurt you if it's in there tight enough.”

Naiche walked off a short distance looking about and then up at a tree that had a good thick vine wrapping about it. “Yeah, be nice if I hadn’t left Pan elsewhere."  Hopping up so that his paws rested against the tree he gnawed off a top part of the vine until it fell to the ground. “Now, we’ll use this,” said as he picked up the vine in his mouth and dragged it over closer to Hyacinth then walking back off to find something else, “We can try having you hold that while I pull I guess, but need something so you don’t just get stuck dee—Here we are!” Naiche found a large branch that appeared to have fallen off a tree due to rot on one end.  It took Naiche a bit to drag it over but it was long enough to not sink so easily spread out as it was, “it’s a bit narrow but if you try and walk along that to where that sinkhole stops you should be in good shape.” Well, it was an idea anyway.  Better than just leaving the guy there.

Picking up one end of the vine he threw it out from a short distance away, backing up till it would be taught. “Alright, let's give this a try.” Yes, two wolves would now play tug and pray that Naiche could brace hard enough to help the giant get free.

Hyacinth didn't really think of himself as being big, obviously, he was, he was the tallest of his siblings but he'd always felt more like a dancer than a fighter but if he'd taken ten seconds to think about it obviously he'd still have to weigh more to not be underweight. Still, he couldn't help but feel like the man was showing off a bit as he wandered over to him, his limbs remaining conspicuously free from the muck. "I mean it's just fur if you end up pulling that out, all I care about is to avoid damaging the face." He chuckled, still trying to make the best of the worst-case situation he'd found himself in. He watched with open curiosity as the stranger grabbed first a vine, then a branch. Not much else he could do after all. He nodded as the man offered him instructions. He picked up his end of the vine, working it in his mouth until he felt he could hold on well.

He braced as the vine pulled taut, fighting the instinct to pull backward on it, instead, he tried to let his limb go as limp as possible, only flexing in such a way he could avoid letting himself be dragged painfully, slowly, oh so slowly, his leg started to pull free. Carefully he started to rock his limb a little, working it loose from the ground. Hyacinth inched closer and closer to the branch as he worked himself free, placing his free paw on the wooden surface to try and leverage his other limb free. It was incredibly slow, he couldn't pull too hard and had to also try and make it clear to his companion that he had to let up when he got particularly stuck, but eventually, eventually his forelimb slid free with a wet sucking noise. Then almost too quickly he hurried across the wooden branch bridge to the safe ground the other man was standing. Then he nearly collapsed, panting and his heart pumping. "Thanks man." Hyacinth panted.
