Abby's paws finally felt the familiar sand and she breathed a silent sigh of relief as she glimpsed the sparkling waves. Having a beach day was a great idea in theory, but reality dragged her enthusiasm through the muck, her aching legs and burning pelt an unfortunate result of her childish optimism. She probably should've settled for a quick dip in the river.
Invigoured by her arrival, she mustered enough energy to gallop into the sea, leaping when she felt seawater at her toes. The ocean enveloped her with a hearty splash, and the unpleasant heat dissipating almost immediately.
The mottled lady let herself lay limp for a moment, letting the water carry her afloat. Now she could remember why she was in such a hurry to return.
