I Don't Know

Panting, Halla immediately took shelter under the shade of a large rock. Below her she could see a lovely little oasis and she planned to head there just as soon as she had a moment to catch her breath. The summer heat was brutal, especially when navigating across the redwater rocks. Her paws were burnt and sore and she feared she may have sustained a sunburn across her shoulders, her pale coat offering very little protection against the elements. Though, she supposed she was glad she didn't have a black pelt. That would absorb even more heat and could make any potential burns worse. Slowly she worked her way down to the oasis, seeking to stay in the shade as much as possible, in particular she focused on keeping in the shade. Eventually she reached the bottom and flopped down next to the oasis under the shade of a group of palm trees. Scooting toward the water she promptly soaked her paws in the water, drinking as well. It was a little cooler than luke warm but not nearly as soothing as she had hoped. Still, the water did its job in quenching her thirst. Halla eyed the sun for a brief moment as she noted its position in the sky. It was an hour or two past noon so there was still a lot of time of hot weather and beating sun light left for the day. Halla might just have to content herself with a nap and start traveling again later. She settled down to rest, eyes scanning the area just in case there were any wild life she needed to be worried about apart from snakes, though she rather doubted it. These weren't the most hospitable habitats for large predators but it was hard to say for sure. It was then her eyes noted some pale green plants covered in little spikes. They were like clearly some kind of succulent with thick flesh leaves. It took her a moment but she soon recognized it as aloe vera. Ah, perfect! Halla got to her feet and padded over to he plant, limping a little as she went. This would probably be the end of her adventures in the west. This climate clearly wasn't for her. She had to admit it was a rather cute plant. It budded up from the earth with a gentle green color that was a sight for sore eyes in the sandy desert. Halla twisted her head and careful bit off one of the leaves, doing her best to avoid snagging her tongue on any of the spines that lined each of the leaves. She set it aside and then went back to the oasis for another drink to rid some of the strange texture of the gel from her mouth. Once that was done she picked up the aloe leaf and settled down in her spot beneath the shady palms. Using a bone knife she carefully started to peel the hard, outer covering of the leaf to reveal he clear gel beneath. She'd heard of aloes use as a purgative but its use against burns was a new one to her. She'd learned of the usage while talking with other lone healers and she was curious to see if this was something that actually worked or if it was an old wives tale. Once the gel was revealed she scooped it with the knife onto a piece of raw hide and then immediately put her front paws in it, smashing the cool gel against her skin. The immediate effect was pleasant. It felt cool and hydrating and she opted to just let her paws sit in the gel for awhile while she enjoyed the shade. Halla planned to stay in the shade until the sun finally set and then she'd resume her journey across the desert lands and back into the northern or eastern territories. She hadn't quite decided which yet but ultimately she wanted to go somewhere where the climate wasn't so dry and arid. After some time she checked on her paws to note that a film had dried around them. Halla examined her paws, noting the pain had returned but perhaps the film would provide something of a protective barrier. She did have a bit of a concern that it might be drying her paws out. That wouldn't do. Well, perhaps she out to make some temporary little shoes for herself out of scraps of rabbit hide and leather strands. She could at least protect her front paws which were in worse shape than her back paws. Moving over to her bundle she examined what she had but ultimately decided to just wait until night fall to travel. Hopefully the cooled sand would feel better on her sore paws. Yawning, Halla laid her head down to nap. "Talk" |
