Fly Me To The Moon

Shilah eyed the crescent shaped island from the shore line just south of the moor. It curved toward him so invitingly he decided he just had to go explore it. The sun was working its way down but the island only seemed o be a quarter of a mile or so from where he was. He'd done longer swims and he didn't mind exploring during a nice summer night. If anything the night would be cooler and so far there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Shilah eyed the island once more then leapt into the water and began swimming. He moved with quick, strong strokes, quietly hoping there weren't any sharks about. He didn't know too much about the aquatic life of the southern regions and he didn't want to get mistaken for a seal or a dolphin or whatever else it was that sharks ate in this area.
Thankfully, his swim had been pretty uneventful. Shilah arrived at the island and shook the excess water from his coat. It was a good size island, covered in fine, pale sand, that seemed to sparkle in the sun. Shilah batted lightly at the sand. He really wanted to lay in the sand and soak up the sun for a bit but ultimately he decided he needed to dry out first. He didn't need to encourage the sand to stick to his pelt any more than it already would.
Shilah trotted farther inland, into the thick, lush tropical forests. It was gorgeous here, a veritable paradise compared to some of the other islands he'd visited thus far. The sun continued to work its way down in the sky, casting an amber glow over the land. Birds still continued to sink, monkeys to holler and other small prey scurried here and there. They didn't seem terribly bothered to see a wolf walking in their midst and he licked his lips as he spied a particularly fat rabbit. He wasn't terribly hungry though so he opted to leave the rabbit alone in favor of saving his energy for exploration and the eventual swim back to the mainland.
The island had a sweet smell courteously of the blooming summer flowers and he spied a number of interesting looking fruits and plants that he'd never seen before. The wind came up but it wasn't terribly unpleasant. It was warm and inviting. Perhaps he ought to head back to the beach, maybe do some sunning and take a nap? He supposed he could also walk the entire length of the island. Naw… nap first, more exploration later!
Shilah headed back toward the beach, carefully picking his way through a grove of palm trees and back to the shore. By the time he returned though the sun was beginning to sink below the horizon and night time soon followed as it sank below. Had he really been out that long? Oh, wow! Under the light of the full moon the sand of the island sparkled like silver. It was gorgeous. If he'd had a special lover Shilah would have to remember to take them to the island for a romantic get away or even a honey moon if he was lucky. Though, at his age that probably wasn't going to happen. He wasn't as young or as good looking as he used to be and most of the wolves he'd met in Boreas were all too young for him to consider. Well, there was Lynvarr. He was a handsome, rugged man about Shilah's age but of course he would be engaged. It just figured!
Shilah stretched out in the sand, sinking to his belly as his front legs scooted forward, pushing up sand around his arms. He tucked his hind legs beneath him as he looked out at the dark water. The ocean looked almost black except for the silver cloak of moonlight shining down on top of the waves. Above him the stars winked and danced, free to view in the cloudless night sky. Shilah debated about swimming back to the main land but ultimately he decided he might as well sleep on the island. As far as he could tell the island was inhabited by prey animals, many of them seeming unfamiliar with predators which meant there probably wasn't much on the island that would pose a threat to him. Shilah got to his feet and shook the sand from his pelt before turning back into the forest. He walked a good ways before finding a large tree with massive roots that crept up above the sand to form a shelter like structure.
Shilah crawled beneath the roots and dug a bit more at the sand to make a nice area for himself to sleep. Once there he curled up tightly into a ball and closed his eyes.
