Why did this shit always happen to him? Were the gods displeased? Had he not apologized for his wrong doings? Growls and yips sounded from all around him and the giant, black and white boy growled in return. His tail was tucked in close but his fangs were bared. The pack of hyenas circled him. Thankfully he'd gotten Siren to safety and had led the pack away from her. He could deal with them he was sure, but he wasn't getting out unscathed.

One rushed in and Chimera spun, teeth sinking into the face of the cackling beast. Another took the opportunity to rush in and sink its teeth into his hip. Chi ripped his teeth from the hyenas face and spun, his rump low to the ground as his teeth gnashed, saliva trailing. Ugh... this was going to be hard.

Stjarna had had enough of the north for the time being. They worked their way down south for prime hunting grounds such as the Algoma prairie. It was a lush land, full of grasses and prey of all kinds. Autumn was still new and it wasn't really noticeable here. As Star wandered through the prairie they saw lush green fields and bison in the distance. Alas, Star was hunting solo so a bison was unlikely to be a good target.

Star was about o start hunting when the sound of growls and yips caught heir attention. The starlight wolf followed the sounds to see a pup surrounded by a group of hyena. Oh no! Star's eyes narrowed and the wolf launched forward, silent until the last moment when ivory fangs dug into the butt cheek of the nearest hyena. Star pulled back sharply, thrashing their head while using their greater size to maim their foe.

More than one hyena rushed him from behind, but thankfully help was on the way. Chimera barely spared a glance as another wolf rushed into the fray. He was too busy with the hyenas at the front. When a big, fat laugher stalked towards him, Chi lunged, jaws wide. He caught the beast just under the jaw, his dire size throwing the hyena onto its back. Chi flung his head back and forth, ripping large tracks of flesh out of the beasts throat. He didn't have time to bask in his success, for a moment later another hyena sank its teeth into his shoulder while another slammed hard into his ribs. The air was knocked partially from the boy, but he tried hard to keep on his paws. He wasn't able to bite while trying to hard to breathe, so he simply swiped hard at the hyena at his shoulder with one wide paw.

The hyena he had a hold of shrieked and yowled. It twisted and flailed as it tried to twist around and bite Stjarna but from the wolf's current position the hyena couldn't get to them. However, just because one hyena couldn't reach the starlight wolf didn't mean the rest couldn't. Out of the corner of their mismatched eyes, Star saw two hyena's dive forward, one on each side. Star released their grip and leapt forward, landing on the first hyena's head while just dodging the other two. However, the hyena on Star's right quickly twisted it's head and snagged the back of the wolf's thigh. Luckily it did not get hold but it tore fur and ripped lacerations into the thigh. Star spun around and snarled, facing down the pair of hyenas that were stalking forward while the third limped away.

Chimera had had enough of this. With one hyena firmly latched onto him, the big boy slammed his body weight down hard upon it. He heard the snap of bone and the satisfying squeal of pain as the hyena released him. Free once more, Chi jumped to his paws. He edged in closer to the other wolf, placing his back to them so that he might have a bit of protection. Teeth bit into flesh, fur flew. No one was coming out unscathed if he had anything to say about it.

And then they were running away. The one with the broken bone seemed to be the leader for as it screamed and scampered away in retreat, the others followed. Good thing, too. The black and white youngling was getting tired. As the last of them faded away in the long grass, Chi sat and caught his breath. He cast a sidelong glance at the star spattered wolf and gave a nod of thanks. The boy then cursed his back fortune again. The universe was truly shitting on him.

Stjarna wasn't fond of uneven fights but it couldn't really be helped now. Facing down the pair of hyenas the wolf snarled viciously and leapt forward. Star's fangs seized the left side of the nearest hyenas face, sinking in deep while piercing one eye. It screeched and flailed. As the other hyena moved in to bite the wolf's left flank, Star twisted sharply to their left, swinging the other hyena right in the way of attack. The hyenas collided, the force causing Star to loose their grip on the first hyena. Star prepared for a rebound attack but a sudden painful howl from the pack's leader caused the duo to swiftly retreat. Panting, Star sat down heavily and reached around to lick at their injured thigh. It wasn't a serious wound but it wasn't minor either.
