herd song
large prey hunt

The sonorous call of an elk bounced off the willow trees, filling the once quiet forest and grabbing a firm hold of Hattori's attention. He'd been tracking the male for hours now, it had wandered away from it's herd and pressed east with seemingly no direction in mind, calling all the while. He knew it was unwise to hunt such a creature alone, as skilled as he was Hattori knew his limits, but he saw no reason not to keep tabs on the bull. With so many packs rubbing shoulders with one another hunting competition was fierce, so if it was possible to claim at least a portion of this elk for Ashen's stores then he'd do so. The tracks that stretched on ahead of him didn't meander or curve through the trees, the male took the straightest most direct route through the willows, making Hattori question his initial assumption that the bull had no direction in mind. He paused for a moment and sniffed the breeze but it didn't offer much of an explanation, the wind was blowing in from the north and did nothing but ruffle his coat and cause the long branches to point south.
