Autumn was almost over, and Gimli was getting closer to returning to Ashen. He was still doubtful about it, about the shame he felt he brought for not winning his fight in the raid, but eventually his companion managed to convince him he was a great warrior regardless. You couldn't win all of them, after all. So before returning to see if they'd accept him back, Gimli stopped to hunt a meal in the woods. He had found a nice, plump turkey and had managed to take it down with ease. He had found a spot to pluck the bird shortly after, the crisp autumn breeze gently blowing the tops of the trees and creating the perfect ambience to eat his meal.
Midway through plucking it, however, he heard the shuffling a creature clearly larger than him. Ears perked as his companion growled, and as he stood up, a black bear had come ambling out of the trees. He eyed it, hackles raised as he growled. The bear didn't seem to care much for him though. It had smelled his bird and he knew it wanted. "Don't ye even think abou' it unless ye want me te rip ye a new one, eh!"
His threats clearly didn't matter to the bear. All it saw was a small wolf with food. It advanced on him, charging at him as it tried to scare him off, but Gimli knew better. He had been pushed around by Recluse, and if there was one thing he could thank her for these days was that she had taught him he could take on anyone no matter the odds and he wouldn't back down. As the bear got closer, Gimli charged right back. His hefty body aimed to slam right into the bears foreleg, causing it to stumble and fall to the ground. As quick as he could, Gimli rolled back to his feet and leapt onto the back of its neck, teeth latching onto one of the bears ears as he shook his head and tore it up.
The bear howled in pain as it sought to shake him off, bucking and attempting to swipe at him but was unable to reach. It was like watching a rodeo, and still Gimli did not give up the hold he had. He used his hind legs to kick and pummel the bears back as many times as he could before finally, the bear managed to shake him off. He was thrown to the ground but was promptly on his feet as he prepared for another assault, but it seemed the bear decided this wasn't worth it. It retreated back into the trees, its ear torn apart and bleeding. Snorting, the dwarf boy watched as it ran off before returning to his meal, grumbling the entire time.
