He had managed to get away from the den and away from the eyes of his family for a little while. Besides, it's not like his dad could keep an eye on all of them, and with his mother not a part of Abaven, it's not like she was around to keep an eye on him either. He trailed along the shore of the rapids, though he wasn't close enough that he'd fall in. The air was cold, and he had a feeling the water would be cold too but he wasn't keen on finding out. Instead, he kept on his path and got the bright idea to try and race the water. He was curious to know how far the river went. With that in mind, he started to run as fast as his little legs could carry him, keeping several feet between him and the water as he went.

Corvus was still reeling from the loss that he and Twig had shared. He hadn't found the right time to tell anyone about it - nor had he decided if it was something he even wanted to share. It felt too personal to share openly, and honestly Corvus wasn't sure that he'd even had time to fully process his grief yet. He was far more concerned with tending to Twig, perhaps even excessively; it was hard to not feel worried about her now and want to tend to her every need, though he knew she was more than capable of taking care of herself. Today though he'd found himself off on his own when the scent of one of Abaven's newest touched his nose.

He slowed, but found himself veering toward the scent. Corvus had always loved children; he looked forward to more litters being born and wanted to get to know them all and help raise them as part of their collective family. But it was hard to not view them in a new light. Children were something he'd almost had - something just out of his grasp. He'd never known how much he wanted them until it'd been just under his nose, only to be ripped away from him. He was reminded of those painful feelings as Solo came into view, though he pushed them down and smiled at the boy as he loped toward him. But the boy was running pretty fast, at least for a boy his age, and a bit too close to the rapids for his comfort. He felt a surge of over protectiveness wash over him, but he was careful to not let it completely overwhelm him. "Hey! Careful now!" He called out, far more casually than he felt. "You're Solo, right? I'm Corvus, one of your... family," he concluded finally, deciding that however they were related was far too complicated for even him to understand, let alone a small child.

He was running like the wind! Or at least, he felt like he was. Tongue rolled out and flopped against his jaws, ears back against the wind as he ran, paws moving haphazardly as he raced along. He felt like he was keeping up with the rapids, though to a spectator, the water was still very much swifter than he was. He was about to try to go faster when he suddenly heard someone calling to him. "Hey! Careful now!" Solo came to a sloppy halt, caught by surprise that someone was watching him. He tripped over his feet and fell to the ground, but it was nothing much to worry about. He simply got back up - mud splattered across his chest - and turned to see who it was that had called out to him.

"You're Solo, right? I'm Corvus, one of your... family," Solo curiously watched the man as he spoke, one ear cocked slightly his way. ""Yeah that's me!" He yipped, tail wagging as he approached Corvus. "So what kinda family are ya? Cousin? Uncle? Graandpaaa?" He teased the last one, a big grin showing as he waited to hear how they were related.

Perhaps fatherhood might come to him more easily than he expected. As soon as he'd seen Solo rushing beside the rapids he felt like a mirror image of his father, warning him of the dangers of the water when he hadn't viewed the rapids as even slightly dangerous. He had no doubt Solo felt the same sort of invincibility. The world was his oyster and he no doubt wanted to explore it all right now, without much regard for the dangers that might lurk out there - not for lack of caring, but simply because of his childlike naivety. Corvus vaguely remembered what that felt like but his need to protect Abaven's young would outweigh all of that. He was glad when Solo slowed, but he hadn't expected him to trip over himself. Fortunately he got right back up and turned toward him, and Corvus grinned at the boy happily. He had no answer for him though.

What kind of family were they? The Destruction family was a big and complex one, and he couldn't begin to recall how they were linked. "Definitely not your grandpa. I'm not that old," he scoffed, feigning some disbelief at the prospect. Though he didn't show it, the boy's words inadvertently made him feel a twinge of sadness, reminding him of the children almost been. He was not even a father, certainly not a grandfather. "We're cousins, probably. Abaven is really big and a lot of us are family. It can be hard to keep track." And at the end of the day, just how any of them were related didn't seem to matter much. They were family, however closely or distantly mattered not to him. "Up to anything fun today, Solo? Maybe I could join you?" He gave the boy a friendly nudge, wondering if he'd accept his company.
