what big teef you have

Ophie had been told to stick close to the Armada, now more than ever the world beyond their borders was dangerous and unknown. She didn't know or understand the exact details, but to be fair she hadn't really been listening either. So safe and as sheltered as she was she was just...painfully naïve with a bit of innocent stupidity thrown in for good measure. Rolling around in mud and muck was all well and good, but the longer she went about doing her usual routine the more she felt as though she was a waste of space, that she wasn't doing her part to make the Armada the best pack in the land! Doubt seeped into the forefront of her mind as she lingered on the inside of the border, staring out into the willow trees with neither companion by her side. She'd been told, more than once, to stay put but the urge to go out there and prove her worth in one fell swoop was almost irresistible for the mucky girl to fight. If she was able to hold her own, scout out the neighbouring territory and return home with the all clear then maybe Asla would start giving her important things to do. Make her feel as though she actually deserved to call herself a Fatalis.
More than anything in the world that was what she wanted: to belong.
Except...whilst she wanted to go out and be brave it was easier said than done. She shifted her weight back and forth between her front and pack limbs, fighting off the urge to skitter back into the heart of the Armada. What if it really was bad out there? Would Dad be mad? Shaking her head she took a hesitant step out into the wilds and then another and another till she was embraced in the shadows of the woods. She'd had a jaunt about in these parts before, nothing seemed overly out of place at first except...she didn't even stray too far from the border for things to start feeling wrong. A strong, almost overpowering scent filled her nostrils, leading her to the daunting massive claw marks that had been carved into the trees. She wasn't too well versed in non verbal wolf speak yet but Ophie could read between the lines. They, whoever they were, had claimed these woods as their own, brazen and unabashedly so close to Armada territory.
Well that just wouldn't do!
She stepped forward, chest all puffed up and- oh. It was as though they, whoever they were, sensed her intent and stepped out of the shadows, massive and looming, far larger than any other wolf she had laid eyes upon. To even call them a wolf seemed unfair, making even her Dad who was the biggest guy she'd ever seen seem tiny in comparison. She sucked in a breath between her teeth as her eyes snapped wide and she took a stumbling step back. The wolf's teeth were stained yellow and it's coat was a greyish black, riddled with gingery-brown threads all the way through, giving it a messy, almost barbaric look. It licked it's lips and the voice that poured from it's devilish maw was a language so deep and foreign she had no way of understanding, not that it seemed to care. It continued to speak, the rumble of it's voice reverberated in her chest as she back peddled, shivering so fierce her outline became a blur.
She had to be brave to try and do something, anything to ward the beast off. To cower and hide was not the Fatalis way...but she was afraid, so very afraid. But she had to be strong, she gritted her teeth as she clenched her muscles ready to take a chomp out of their leg. She wasn't sure what good it would do against a monster such as this but she had to try. Except that more than anything she wanted her Mum, to be held and loved and- a paw flashed across her vision and Ophie was sent flying, falling and tumbling before she hit the snow. Hard.
Her head span and her senses rang in her eyes, high pitched and squealing- till she realised that was her. She was making those noises. Tears rolled down her cheeks and as the wolf loomed above her it let out an indignant snort, thoroughly unimpressed but not overly vicious. Perhaps it's intention had only been to wallop some sense into her. Not that it had worked. It grumbled overhead as it's brows furrowed, deep in thought, when it finally spoke again, it's words ringing in Ophie's ears did it dawn on her that she could barely understand it this time. They were sloppy and dripping with an accent that felt...fake almost, as though it just wasn't real, but their meaning clear enough all the same. Her teary eyes widened and she shifted a little in the snow. Oh.
