Come down, come down sweet reverence

Jynn eyed the Tall Hairys, scanning the herd for any signs of weakness. It was hard to tell. She wasn't familiar with the creatures enough to know what movements were and weren't natural. However, as she watched she noticed a smaller one, perhaps a yearling, moving in a slightly jerky motion. With her torch lit and burning bright she jerked her head in direction of the yearling, signifying it as their target. She waited a moment longer before she heard the strange high-pitched howl of her companion Tahmores. The Ethiopian wolf noted that they were in place at the base of the sound. Ok, it was go time. Jynn set her torch down for just a moment before signaling the start of the hunt with her kinds roar bark.

Snagging the torch she bounded forward, diving for the herd like an arrow. She didn't really need to wave the torch, the bounce of her run was enough to make the fire seem like it was leaping for the beasts. A large cow noticed and jerked northward, a strange rumbling emitting from her. One by one the beasts turned northward, driving toward the sound. Jynn zeroed in at the back of the bull yearling, whipping her torch into it to drive the beast faster toward its demise.

Mæva worked carefully to mold pine pitch to the end of a splayed stick which she then lit on fire with the help of her lemur. The torch was lit not a moment too soon for Jynn then called the hunt to order with what was definitely not a howl but Mæva got the gist of it. She bounded forward, twisting her head to the side so that her torch was up and burning, the flame holding well against the speed of her run. Thankfully there was no wind today, just a calm eeriness of winter rather than the singing birds of spring. Mæva kept an eye out on Jynn's movement and when she saw the long-legged woman zero in on a yearling bull she followed suit. Mæva slipped to the other side, seeking to hold her flame close to the hind leg, letting the heat and pain drive the mammoth in the direction they wanted.

They'd set off towards the sound and managed to set up some holes with stakes in them. They seemed sturdy enough to cause some damage and he was hoping that they'd do most of the work. He was a pretty big guy, but the tall hairy's were much much taller than he could handle comfortably. He didn't often get nervous but he was slightly anxious. It was a adrenaline rush as he shifted uneasily back and forth on his paws. So far everything was going off without a hitch, but they had a long way to go before that beast came crashing down the edge of the cliff. Would they even be able to scare it this direction? The key there was going to be ensuring that it was even scared enough to do so without changing direction the last minute. He was sure those tusks weren't going to be fun to deal with either if it decided to turn on the chasing group.

Ears flicked forward as Jynn and her companion could be heard. So it had begun. He continued his pacing, sure to give the stakes a wide berth seeing as he didn't want to be crushed to death if the beast did take the plunge. He looked to his companion briefly before waiting impatiently. It felt weird to not be helping up above, but he knew slaying the hairy creature was an important task as well. So he waited patiently until it was his turn to be a part of the action.

Aoife wasn't inclined towards stillness in general, so as they waited for everything to be ready she grasped a stick in her agile paw and doodled mammoths in the dirt, much to Anja's amusement. The leopard, in contrast, was the epitome of stillness, practically statue like in her waiting poise. The cat was sworn to protect her from danger, though frankly she hadn't expected to be facing giant elephantine creatures when she'd chosen the tiny bard as her charge... but she would do what she could anyway.

Then the time had come, and when Jynn waved her torch towards an injured young mammoth, Aoife dropped her stick and took off with a yip of excitement, Anja keeping pace beside her. She kept well to the side of the creature and just back from level with his ear, barking madly at it to keep it from turning that direction as Jynn and Maeva's torches did the work of getting it to run.

While he waited on the team at the bottom of the cliff to get into position, Artur studied the strange beasts from afar. Judging the size of the beasts, he thought at his height he'd be able to reach their underbellies reasonably well to drive them with well placed slashes. Maybe not well enough to open the cavity and end the hunt there, but certainly well enough to cause it pain.

He stood expectantly as the maned wolf with the torch surveyed them and made a strange barking noise, and as she took off towards them he followed silently. She indicated their target, a younger looking beast, and both she and his niece took their torches to it to drive it. Keeping an eye on the rest of the herd to drive them off, Artur leaped for the beast's flank to slash at it with his fangs. Once it was running, it would just be a matter of pacing it and keeping it in the right direction until they were closer to the cliffs...

Apollinaris gripped his torch tightly as he waited for the signal from the leader, his own gaze picking over the herd. The woman chose and signal led the attack, which meant it was time for him to act. Teeth clamped down on the bark in his mouth as he launched forward, making his way to the intended target. The blazing of his companions' torches matched his own as he ran forward, his legs moving swiftly in the snow. Each woman holding a torch was on either side of the young animal, so Apollinaris took up his spot at the rear. The others could drive it with fire on each flank and he would keep it moving from behind with the threat of fire at its tail. It was a bit difficult to hold his torch just so, but he managed - and crained his neck to touch the beast with licking flames to show he did not wish to stop.

The sounds of the hunt were exhilarating, the sounds of paws beating against the earth in familiar rhythm, the barks and howls and yips of excitement, the rumble of their large prey fleeing from the flames and sharp teeth that would mean its demise. When the others began, Halcyone quickly fell into place, running along with the others, helping to drive the beast forward. It was a new sort of thrill for her, aiming for something so large and foreign, but with her position in this hunt it was easy for her to play her part. The take down would be different, but she was sure their plan was solid and they would all be eating well once they were done.
