Some time had passed since Indigo had introduced Segin to the pack and the wolves of his to-be band. Since then he’d brought another home but at the cost of his whole belly. He’d been ripped open and very nearly met his early demise. After much strife and struggle Indigo was healing as expected, he could finally move rather freely, and he needed to start working his muscles again as he normally would so they didn’t heal back wrong. He wanted to work his mind more too, see something other than the stone walls. He’d been supported heavily by the wolves he surrounded himself with, but Indigo had been quiet since Resin’s funeral. He hadn’t quite gotten the fight back in him after the loss and the physical limitations of his body.
He knew that Resin didn’t want anyone to mourn her for long, but Indigo didn’t feel like he had stepped out of the trough he was dumped in. Duchess must have been out with Gypsy, and he figured Iolaire was seeing to Emersyn, but he thought he heard Segin close by when Indigo blinked open tired eyes. He was recovering, the proof was in how far he had already come. Only a few days ago he could hardly hobble his way to say his goodbyes… Indigo tried to blink back his tears as he felt overwhelmed by all of his loss once more. Resin’s downward spiral and recent goodbye. His brother, and his mother. There were more too, but how many tears had he already shed for them?
Indigo breathed in deeply, slowly before releasing into a heavy sigh. The massive maned man lifted himself to his paws carefully. He wasn’t in danger of busting stitches anymore. He was still sore and still in pain, but each day was easier than the last. Yesterday he had barely been able to shake out his coat and when he did so today the motion was so much easier. He was still tight around his belly, but it felt so good to get his fur fluffed out. What would feel really good was some sunshine, greenery, and fresh air. Indigo went to put on a hide pack so he could gather, but he moved a little too fast.
Pain laced through him and he groaned painfully in surprise. Indigo lost his footing and was forced to rest on the stone wall ahead of him. He sucked in his breath, reminded all too well of the moments after the injury happened. Indigo tried again, pushing himself away from the wall as he against tried to retrieve the furs from the floor, and was again, struck through. ”Alright, maybe not any gathering..” He mumbled discontentedly through his teeth as he fought through the pain and lifted himself to his paws again.

Seeing how badly Indigo had been hurt and how close they had been to losing him so soon after meeting him really shook Segin to his core. Just as he was getting familiar with his new makeshift family, getting comfortable in the castle, and learning his way around this happened and it made him remember how fragile this new life he had been given really was. He didn’t think that he’d just be kicked back out into the world alone if Indigo had met his demise out there saving Emersyn, but he also didn’t know that for sure.
He had stuck close to Indigo in the days following the day he was injured as if he just had to reassure himself constantly that the giant violet man was actually okay. He helped as much as he could, mostly just fetching things that Indigo needed and keeping him company, but seeing Io work made him realize just how lacking his meger skills as a healer really were so he also spent a good bit of time trying to learn and study more herbs and their uses. It gave him something to do to keep his mind busy while his body continued to heal and rebuild from his misuse and mistreatment of it.
He was still thin, but his ribs weren’t as visible as they had once been and he no longer felt like he might collapse under the smallest weight. Most of his smaller cuts and bruises were pretty much completely gone and his paws had mostly healed. His coat was slowly getting back a bit of luster as he continued to be better about keeping it clean and he continued to properly eat. Out of all the things that Indigo had to worry about, he didn’t want to be one of them.
Segin’s ears perked when he heard a shuffle and sound of movement from the room behind him, making him lift his head and look toward where he knew Indigo was resting. He had been very, very tempted to go back into the room where they slept to lay with him, but he had forced himself to return to his studies, tirelessly trying to make himself skilled enough to justify his place in their group.
At the sound though, he got up and walked back into the room, finding Indio struggling to move and stand with this pained expression on his face. Worry immediately flared in Segin’s gut and he rushed to Indigo’s side, trying to help support him even though he was so much smaller than the giant man. “Careful, careful…” He said softly with a whine, his ears falling back against his head. He looked to the pack that it seemed Indigo had been trying to put on, piecing some things together for himself. “Hold on, rest for a second. Do you want to go gather herbs? I can carry the pack for you!” he offered, looking back up at Indigo’s handsome blue eyes.

Indigo wasn’t hardly ever alone and for that he was grateful, he could still easily get lost in his own mind but there was always someone there when it got to be too much. Segin especially seemed to be there when he most needed him. Indigo was distracted at best most days, it felt like he could hardly think as his body directed its efforts to healing the massive wound he sustained. He wasn’t blind either, and did notice the steady way Segin’s body began to recover. Flesh returned to his ribs, and his fur was starting to show a much more healthy sheen. There was still room for improvement, but Segin was obviously thriving now. Indigo was annoyed that he hadn’t been able to facilitate more. In fact it was often the other way around entirely. Segin had been taking care of him.
The Fatalis man was lifting himself back to his paws when Segin appeared from a conjoined room to rush to his side. Indigo couldn’t bring himself to settle any weight onto Segin’s thin frame, but the pain made his decision for him. The purple mottled wolf was stronger than he was when they met, but Indigo tried to find his footing quickly. He held an obvious wince on his features, he Indy righted himself even as Segin was reminding him to be careful. Like he could read his mind Segin noticed the pack on the ground and put two and two together. Indigo sighed softly as Segin spoke, telling him to rest and offering to carry the pack to gather herbs. When Segin looked back up at him there was a brightness to his silver gaze that reminded him of joy.
Indy blinked back the pain, but lowered himself to his haunches. He twisted wrong, confident he hadn’t done anything terrible though he tried to put the pain from his mind. He’d hurt a lot worse during the ordeal, this wasn’t anything. ”I’d really like to get out and gather herbs.” He agreed softly, captured by Segin’s shining platinum gaze. ”Having you there sounds better.” From the moment they met Indigo had felt Segin was a kindred spirit, that fact was only proven true after they got to know each other that first night. Indy hadn’t forgotten that connection, and their time together always felt special.
”Lets go to the gardens beyond the castle.” It wasn’t any further a walk than the starlit plains and it boasted a much broader range of plants and herbs to bring home. Steadily he found his feet, as long as he didn’t lean forward too much all would be well. His pace was slow and steady, their roles reversed now compared to the first walk back to the Hallows. They eventually made it to the main entrance of the garden, an old archway that was still full to the brim of old vining plants. Some with small fruits and flowers, Indigo ducked under some low hanging vines next to Segin. He hadn’t let but a few inches distance fall between them, Indigo liked being close to the man. Their similarities and differences were an attraction that Indy was incredibly curious to explore those feelings.
Not that he was pressing anything, as they walked into the main clearing beyond the arch Indy felt himself grow short of breath. Before they could even find anything Indigo was lowering himself to the cold green grass under the dappled shade of a peach tree. ”Maybe.. A break.. For just a… minute.” Indigo was still in rough shape, but outings like this were sure to help him return to normal.

Segin was relieved when Indigo sat back onto his haunches, taking a second to right himself after obviously doing something to aggravate his healing wounds. As much as he should have probably denied the request to go out hunting for herbs, he also couldn’t possibly deny Indigo that simple request. Segin obviously understood the need to get out of this castle for a while. He loved the grandeur of the castle and the shelter it provided, but after living out in the elements for so long it certainly became a bit claustrophobic at times.
He nodded when he agreed that he wanted to go hunt for herbs and was about to pick up the pack dutifully when Indigo went on to say that having him there sounded better, making the smaller man grin and blush. He loved being around Indigo and loved knowing that Indigo liked having him around even more. The larger male really seemed to have a way about making the wolves around him feel special and Segin was certainly no exception to that. He’d felt it from their very first meeting and he didn’t think that would ever change.
He nodded again when Indigo requested to go to the gardens just outside of the castle and slid the pack across his back so they could get going. He remembered how heavy the pack had seemed on the way back to the castle after he found Indigo and now it didn’t feel nearly as cumbersome. Of course it was still empty right now, but it was still progress and that made him happy. He walked slowly alongside Indigo as they made their way out of the castle, matching his pace to his friend’s. He was in absolutely no rush and was more than happy to take as long as Indigo needed to get there. He was getting to spend some alone time with Indigo so he was going to savor every second of it - even if it was just steadily walking out to the gardens to look for herbs.
When they arrived, Segin’s silver gaze widened as he looked around at all the amazing plants, flowers, and fruits around them. They only held his attention for a moment though as they walked past an archway into a clearing and he felt Indigo leave his side. Looking back to his friend he saw Indigo settling himself under a peach tree, struggling to suggest they take a break between breaths. His ears flicked back with worry, but he tried to keep a smile on his lips. He knew how much Indigo liked to see him smile. He closed that distance between them again and slid the pack off of his back to lean it against the trunk of the tree. “Of course! There’s no hurry. Rest as long as you want.” He wouldn’t be upset if they didn’t gather a single herb. Even if they just got him out of the castle for a few hours it would still feel like a success in his book. Seeing Indigo up and moving around at all was comforting after seeing him hurt so badly.
He settled down in the shade beside Indigo, gently leaning into his side. It was difficult to get over the feeling that he needed to be careful and gentle with the injured man even though his injuries were starting to heal and mend. He just knew he’d never forgive himself if he caused the larger man any pain. Even still, he couldn't really resist nuzzling into Indigo’s mane, a smile pulling across his lips. That same flutter in his chest from when they were snuggling in that cave returned just as it always did whenever he happened to find a moment alone with Indigo. He had often found his comforts from the company of others, but he hadn’t felt this strongly for any of them since his half brother was killed. Indigo was a very special wolf and even if he never got the chance to explore these feelings with him he was just grateful to be in his presence at all.

Indigo was going to walk somewhere, company or not. He was feeling far too restless, borderline useless and he couldn’t stand the feeling any longer. Pack or no he was dragging himself to the garden. Honestly though, having Segin along with him made the prospect even more inviting. Spending some time with him helped to bring a bit of strength back into his limbs. Especially that sweet smile that played over Segin’s features. Without anything even being said the man caused Indy’s heart to beat a little faster in his chest. That wasn’t necessarily a good thing for his condition but he ignored it, resulting in how out of breath he was by the time they grew comfortable at the peach tree.
Segin grew much more comfortable with the pack than the last time Indy saw him carry it. The man hadn’t seen a good meal for who knew how long before they met. Indigo felt proud of Segin and himself to a lesser degree watching his progression. It was a nice distraction as Indigo ignored the flaring pain in his gut. Segin was so sweet, encouraging him to remain resting however long he thought he might need. A smile, though maybe a worried one, remained as he placed the pack down and returned to Indigo’s side. ”I wish I didn’t have to rest.” He traveled to the Armada and back in less than two days, and now he was winded going just outside pack bounds. ”Not that I would ever take back my actions.” Indigo added, never once regretting the course he had to take.
He forgot about all of it, how disgruntled and trapped he felt within the walls, when Segin leaned against him. A pleasant smile replaced his expression as his breathing started to return to normal. Indigo lowered his head to his legs, eyes half lidded as the lazy feeling of the afternoon got to him. Combined with how tired he always was, the shade swiftly lulled him into relaxation. Segin overcast his worries and offered a brightness to focus on through the dark. Indigo was the most at ease he’d been in a long time. Segin nestled into the thick purple fur of his mane, Indigo twisted slightly so he could angle one vibrant blue eye towards his polished silver gaze. It was good to know Segin was so comfortable with him too.
”I’m sorry I haven’t been able to be one hundred percent for you,” that was his one real regret. This injury and how long it was taking to return to normal, to get back to his routine. He did realize one thing, he was going to have to be much more careful about his fighting. He couldn’t afford injuries like this once they were out on their own. He couldn’t help but think about the way Emersyn guarded him while he’d been out…

Segin nodded with understanding when Indigo mentioned how he didn't want to have to rest but didn't regret what he had done either. He hadn't gotten to spend much time with the larger woman that had come home with him this time, but it didn't really matter. Anyone that Indigo felt needed his help was now family in Segin's eyes. He wouldn't question anyone that got brought into the fold of their purple hued family and he'd care for them unconditionally just like he did Indigo. After all of the loss and pain he had been through it was easy for him to grow attached to the wolves that had come into his life, feeling unwilling to let any of them go again. He made a note to spend more time with Emersyn, Gypsy, and Duchess very soon. He felt like he owed it to Indigo to really made an effort to help bond them all together even more.
As they snuggled together in the shade of the peach tree, he felt Indigo shift until he saw one brilliant sapphire eye look back toward him, making his heart miss a beat. He couldn't figure out what about Indigo attracted him so, but the skips and flutters in his chest were undeniable and seemingly unwavering. His apology was quickly met with a sweet smile, shifting up so that he could reach Indigo's cheek, pressing his nose to him encouragingly for a moment. "Don't be silly. You have nothing to apologize for. I'm just glad you're here." He still couldn't quite shake the feeling of the fear he had felt at even the possibility that they might lose Indigo. He had his own reasons for wanting to be around the violet man and for wanting to be at his side that were a bit more selfish, but he also just saw how good he was for all of them - for Duchess, Gypsy, himself, and now Emersyn - and he knew how hard they would all feel his absence if he were to suddenly disappear from their lives.
Segin shuffled forward a bit more until he was able to rest his head on top of Indigo's neck just behind his head while he was resting it on his paws, leaning more into his mane and snuggling into his larger frame. For the moment at least their herb hunting was forgotten and now his entire attention was captured by Indigo and just enjoying being with him. He laid like that for a few moments with a contented sigh, gazing out over the gardens ahead of them between Indigo's ears, a small smile lingering on his lips. He still couldn't quite get his heart to fully calm, but he had just accepted that was something that would be a part of his days whenever he was alone with Indigo. Feeling a bit daring, he leaned his muzzle toward Indigo's ear that was nearest his muzzle and gave a gentle lick over the back of Indigo's red marked ear, a wider smile pulling across his features.

Segin seemed to understand where he was coming from, really this was the hard part. He hadn’t put much thought into his actions, Emersyn’s life was in danger and Indigo reacted. He was just lucky that this was the worst of it, he could have come out so much worse. He tried to apologize for the fact, Indigo hated what he’d become. He was ready to be healed and back to his full potential. This healing process was long and arduous. His strife did meet relief in Segin’s sugar sweet smile. Being doted on by the wolves he cared about was a new experience, one that he could admit to enjoying. However incapacitated he felt they were there for him no question, the thought touched his heart as blue gaze lingered on Segin’s smile.
Indigo leaned into Segin’s affection as he pressed his nose to his cheek, and reminded him that he was grateful Indigo was still there at all. He knew that he had taken too great a risk, but there had been no other choice. From now on He had to fight smarter, because there was no doubt this would not be the last. ”I know,” Indigo admitted softly, ”I’ll be more careful next time.” He promised, his voice regretful, that there would have to be a next time. If Gypsy’s father came back, if Draco showed up… Indigo would always have to be on guard and ready. That was a sacrifice the Fatalis man was willing to make, Segin and every one of them were worth it.
Segin shifted slightly, fitting himself against Indigo comfortably. Indy craved the physical attention and discernibly relaxed in his embrace. Laying there beneath the tree Indigo felt content and loved. Segin possessed a talent of putting Indigo at ease. Maybe it was his easy smile, even after everything he’d been put through. Or their easy affection that they shared practically from the start. There was always that warm feeling that bubbled up in his belly and fluttered in his chest when Segin got closer, and Indigo acted on it by curling in against the other male’s smaller form.
They remained like that while Indigo recuperated and caught his breath. The latter seeming impossible especially as Segin began to trace his tongue over Indy’s dark ear. A shiver raced over his skin, and he knew that Segin felt the reaction if Indigo wanted to or not. His cheeks burned and the nervous feeling flared again, but it wasn’t entirely unpleasant. Indy rumbled deep in his chest, the sound obviously pleased as he further relaxed against Segin’s smaller frame. Beyond holding him a little tighter Indy didn’t move, he was comfortable where Segin was, and despite himself, curious where he was going.

Hearing Indigo promise that he would be more careful gave him more comfort and peace, smiling and nuzzling encouragingly into the larger man's neck. He knew that Indigo hadn't meant to worry any of them and he had only been acting to protect someone else as was his path in life. He was a protector and a nurturer. Segin couldn't fault him for doing what he was meant to do. That also didn't mean that Segin wouldn't worry about him each and every time he ended up in a fight. It was unfortunately an inevitable part of him being the one to protect the rest of the group and it made Segin a bit guilty that he didn't have the strength or abilities to take some of that pressure off of him. All he could do was be his emotional support and do his very best to become a skilled healer to help their band as he could.
He couldn't get over how much he liked being tucked into Indigo's larger frame. From their very first meeting it had given him so much comfort, but also sent his heart racing and made a familiar warmth spread through him. Indigo hadn't shied away from any of his affections, but he still hadn't quite determined if they affected his friend the same way as they did him - at least it was a mystery until he licked the back of Indigo's ear and felt him shiver under him. Segin's ears perked at the rumbling sound that Indigo made in response and he felt his face flush as a little grin pulled at his lips. Maybe his desires weren't entirely one sided after all. He obviously wouldn't act on anything like that right now while Indigo was still healing, but it gave him a little interest and curiosity for what the future could bring.
He couldn't quite resist giving Indigo at least a little more affection. He was too grateful to have Indigo with him still and too enchanted by the time that they got to spend alone. A content smile lingered on his lips as he gave his ear another sweet lick. His dark paw lifted to gently scritch through some of the thinner fur around Indigo's ears and cheek, leaning his head into the larger man's neck as he took in just how small his paw seemed in comparison to Indigo's features. He was certainly the largest wolf he had ever seen - even a bit larger than his father. It was hard to not let his mind wander and it made a curiosity in him that was nearly insatiable. "Indigo... Would you ever consider... being with a man?" he asked quietly, finally deciding once and for all that he needed to just know if that was even something he could be considering or if he was just letting his desires get the best of him.

Segin’s affection was different from anything he’d experienced so far, but it gave him the same kind of warmth that he shared with Duchess. It was similar even to how he felt towards Aslatiel, but at a much softer degree. Segin nuzzled against him, continuing to press closer as they relaxed under the shade of the tree. Indigo wanted him closer too, the feeling of his paws in his mane, and his tongue against his ear, made everything he did worth the effort. He would give of his flesh again and again to keep the wolves he cared for safe, just for sweet moments like this. Being close to Segin. There weren't just sweet affections though, the mottled man encouraged thoughts and feelings that were suggestive and passionate. Segin told him about his past, he knew the man had shared his love with his own brother, these sweet affections couldn’t only be innocent desires.
They didn’t often get time alone like this, it was special and sugary sweet. Segin didn’t withhold his affections even at Indigo’s unintentional reaction. He’d been slightly afraid that Segin would retreat, but his actions were renewed with Indy’s content mumbles of pleasure. The dark marked man kissed his ear again and lifted an inky black paw to caress the soft fur around his red marked ear. Indigo’s vibrant blue eyes slid shut under the affection, and he could have lingered there under the shade with Segin for eternity and he would have been content. The other male put him at complete ease, he didn’t often enjoy this feeling of bliss, but there were few moments that felt more perfect.
He blinked open his eyes as Segin quietly uttered his name, Indy shifted only slightly beneath the man as he went on. There was hesitation as he spoke and the question was a little vague but the massive brute could still decipher the deeper meaning. Segin was the first man Indigo would have considered being intimate with, he was sweet and warm, everything that Indigo wanted. Another rumble coursed through his chest before he answered. ”Any man?” He started softly, not so certain of that answer. ”No, but I would want to be with you.” Indigo admitted softly and uncertainly. Segin was more experienced on this path, but Indigo would follow eagerly.
Indigo shifted slightly so he could nuzzle into Segin’s soft fur as nervousness fluttered within his chest and belly as he fully acknowledged the desire he had for the man. He wanted to be intimate with him and explore their desires together, not that his body could handle that kind of excitement just yet. He wouldn’t be wounded forever, but he knew that his restrictions would be more frustrating as he tried not to think too heavily about what he wanted to do with Segin. His sweet affections built the flame of desire in Indigo’s belly, but he only just barely acted on the feelings as he buried his features in Segin’s fur.

Segin worried in that heart beat of a moment after he asked his question, that breath of silence making him wonder if perhaps he had been too forward or too presumptuous. He didn't want to mess up anything between himself and Indigo accidentally, but he was too curious and his desires were too strong for him to not ask. But soon Indigo gave his answer, telling him how he wouldn't be with any man, but he would be with him. Segin felt his chest swell with excitement and happiness, a grin pulling across his features. Something about the fact that he would make that exception for him alone made him feel even more special and just reaffirmed this connection he felt with Indigo from the first moment they met. He certainly wouldn't expect any sort of romantic bond with the man - he fully understood where Indigo's heart truly resided - but Segin was free with who he shared himself with and was always eager to fall into the pleasures and comforts of another.
He returned Indigo's nuzzles and affections, feeling his heart skip and felt good finally knowing that he could allow that desire to reside in him even if they couldn't act on it right this moment. Segin left another gentle kiss against Indigo's ear before he replied softly, "I want to be with you too. Whenever you're feeling better I'd love to try those things with you." He was excited to show Indigo the ropes, even if he was the only man that Indigo was ever with. He was just happy that these feelings and attraction wouldn't go unsatisfied and he'd get to be even closer to Indigo eventually. Once his darn wounds finished healing.
He chuckled softly and brought his muzzle to Indigo's cheek, giving him a sweet kiss. "Should we give gathering herbs another shot? Or do you want to keep snuggling?" He knew he needed to keep himself from getting too far with his affections so that he wouldn't accidentally cause Indigo too much discomfort or risk aggravating his wounds. As much as he wanted the saber toothed man he wanted him to not feel pain even more.

There was something about Segin’s grin as Indy admitted his feelings out loud. He was attracted to Segin, he liked having him close and he wanted to hold him closer. The mottled man knew as much about Indigo’s past and deeper desires as he knew of Segin’s history. And Segin knew better than anyone where his heart was kept, he understood and yet still as he spoke Indigo felt both touched and surprised. Segin kissed his ear again sweetly, hinting again at the affection they might eventually share. He loved being close and cuddling, but the pull of desire was hard to ignore. He rumbled again, all too familiar with the words. Once his lacerations were healed, the day didn’t feel like it could come soon enough. ”We’ll take a nice long trip together.” Indigo promised, only able to imagine the future excitement they would share.
He tried not to think about how much longer his body would be incapacitated, but it was easier when Segin was kissing him. The affections weren’t near as passionate or suggestive as Indigo might have if he didn’t have to hold back. Segin opened a whole new door, and Indigo was going to get in trouble if he thought too much about the man in his arms and how alone they were. Segin seemed to have similar feelings, he spoke about the herb gathering mission they had been on previously. Maybe relinquishing his grasp would help alleviate the pressure building beneath.
”I want to keep holding you, but we should get up and gather some plants.” He told him reluctantly, not really wanting to put distance between their bodies after such a confession. Before Indigo truly let him go he gave him another almost shy kiss. He couldn’t dive too deeply, but the affection was genuine and Indy savored the taste of Segin’s lips on his tongue. He couldn’t linger, and slowly disentangled himself before finding his paws. Indy shook himself and the lingering drunken desire that threatened him from his coat. ”I’ll be one piece again soon.” He promised as he turned his attention back to Segin once more, he grinned and turned his attention back to the lush gardens before them.
