Ardyn Cadeyrn Aodhán Phoenix Adravendi |
Ardyn had taken the lead once he’d rooted Fidelias out of one of the sentry stations – the boy was past the end of his shift anyway – and tossed on a few extra pouches full of fishing nets he’d been making since his last few fishing attempts. He’s tracked down his father as well, and now the trio made their way down a narrow elk path toward the river that flowed through Emerald Valley.
He hadn’t made Fidelias do any talking, mostly chatting with his father with openings in case the younger yearling felt interested enough to interject. A lot of the subjects were on hunting, bouncing trap ideas off his more experienced father. He valued the gold brindled male’s knowledge and input, not just because he was his father.
While he’d grown, and knew by now that neither of his parents knew absolutely everything, he knew his father was an experienced crafter and hunter, and anything he had to say was taken in with an intense expression of thought, and the same respect was given to anything Fidelias had to offer. The boy was quiet, and reserved, but Ardyn had no doubt that he was highly intelligent as well. Silence rarely meant stupidity.
He grinned as they reached the river, dipping his long toes into the cold current and scanning the water intently, before lifting a paw and pointing toward an undulating shape toward the middle. It was a big fish, if he wasn’t just seeing a tree trunk that had become lodged in the river rocks at the bottom and was just being moved by the waterflow.
“I think I have a net big enough to hold it in here.”
He bent around and pulled the large set of pouches from his back, followed by his armor and cloak with their own pouches, neatly stacked well up from the water, out of dousing range before he returned to the fishing nets and pulled a bundle of net made from thick cordage out, throwing it open and checking for any weak spots or holes that shouldn’t be there, before glancing it his father and Fidelias for a second opinion as he folded the net back into its bundle, ready for throwing if they went that route.
“Or should we try to get it the normal way? Between the three of us I’m pretty sure we could get the fish out on land and sit on it long enough to kill it.”
He was fine with either choice, and left it open to them, though he kept one eye on the water and the shape in its depths. That was definitely a fish, and the biggest one he’d ever seen in a river. If they could land it, the pack would have plenty of fish to salt, dry and store up for the cold months. They’d be soaked to the bones either way, but he could almost taste the fish now, maybe roasted on a bed of coals with some of the special spices the primates and Nomads had found or traded to them in previous visits.
Walk ---- "Speak" ---- "Labhair an Sean-Teanga." ---- "Hear" ---- Think |
Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.
