It took a while but Hanako begrudgingly accepted her fate as the Armada's fisherwoman. If the packs stores were really in as bad of a state as Azure made it sound then everyone needed to pull together to make sure no one went without this winter. Hanako wasn't even sure if she would still be here by then, the allure of staying grew with each passing day, but she hadn't written of Sparrow either just yet. She really liked the Pirate King and if nothing she just wanted to see her again, see if things could be talked out, like reasonable folk. Maybe. Hanako's penchant for drama made such an outcome rather unlikely, but a girl could dream, right?
With Azure's companions no doubt lurking somewhere nearby, Hanako made her way down to the beach and was pleased to find it empty. She'd always been a bit of a social butterfly, but something about being on her heat made her feel more...selective about the company she wanted to keep. She didn't really hold anything against the wolves here, they were fine, it was more of a her problem. Not wanting people to know she was like this, as if it was something to be ashamed of. Taboo, almost. That and Azure had made his feelings pretty clear on the matter, even when he was out of sight she found herself walking the thin line he'd drawn in the sand. More out of habit than anything else.
Heading down to the waterside, Hanako shivered as the waves rolled over her paws. It was another cold and bleak day, with winter fast approaching the temperature of the sea reflected that, making Hanako less than eager to dive right in. She glanced over her shoulder, eying Toshi and Bean as they waited for her to haul in her catch and claim a bite or two as their own. Shooting them a sour look, she shooed them off with a flick of her tail, they weren't gonna get a single fish if she could help it. She was doing this for the pack, because Azure had asked her to.
Biting back the cold, yet another shiver washed down her spine as she waded out into the water, her pale eyes on the look-out for something to catch. With the sea being so choppy very few fish lingered close to shore, but the Cyprus trees roots provided plenty of shelter for those willing to wiggle through the gaps and take shelter. Hanako doubted she'd catch anything to write home about, but this was about the best she could do if she didn't want to swim further out. Where the water no doubt was colder and even more turbulent.
Grimacing, Hanako was up to her belly in the waves as she approached the first tree. A wave was coming in quick and even bracing against the tree trunk did little to prevent her feeling the force of it. Getting wet was unavoidable, it wasn't the water itself that bothered her, rather that it was just too cold. She was born to bathe in the sun, to glide through tropical waters, not slap blindly for fish she could toss in the pantry. Azure ought to kiss her paws after this, fawn over her prowess and compliment her till he was short of breath. Maybe she'd sulk till he got the hint, she'd have to play it by ear when she saw him later.
Hot and cold clashed within her as she reached between the roots and felt a fin flutter away in a panic. Holding her breath she dipped beneath the surface and lightening strike fast snapped her jaws, clamping her teeth around, the long and noodley fish. Surfacing with a gasp, the fish twitched and writhed in her grasp as Hanako padded her way back to the shore. She dropped it to the sand and wiped the blood off her paw with a swipe of a paw. One down many left to go.
"Go fetch something to store it in. Both of you." At least that way they wouldn't eat her catches whilst her back was turned.
Returning back to the waves it was a rinse and repeat motion, catching fishes of all shapes and sizes. Garfish, triplefin, flatfish and the most common, a bunch of threadfish she'd spotted schooling just a short paddle away. Her teeth chattered fiercely as she scooped up the sack, now full of fish, and hurried on her way to the deposit her catches wherever food was being stored for the time being. She'd caught plenty, more than enough to keep nagging naysayers off her back and thus in her mind she'd earned the right to spend the rest of her day huddled up in her den, safe and more importantly warm.
