The temperature had dropped suddenly as if overnight God had wanted the land to freeze. Light drifts of snow had come in and out throughout the day, almost lazily covering the ground in haphazard blankets of white. While the winds whipped through most of the regions in Boreas, tendrils of air were unable to find their way through the looming Redwood trees. Thick trunks stood tall as skyscrapers, their greenery masking most of the sky above. Here and there, snow accumulated where it could find its way through, grey clouds barely seen through the treetop. The Red Forest always emanated an ominous feel with its lack of large prey and dense shrubbery.

For him, it was comfort. His paws took calculated steps over blankets of rotting leaves and moss. Other than the plume of thickened air that vaporized from his pink nose, there was little to point him out from the shadows. As Autumn waned and the ever heedful cry of Winter cascaded upon them, Gilgamesh's coat grew thick, the splotches of grey and black covering his body rippling with each movement. From a distance, one might be able to see the two spots of yellow where his intelligent eyes lingered, watching every movement, but they never stayed in one place for long.

He was on the hunt for a snack. Both ears, one grey, and one black twitched back and forth, listening for the scratching scurries of something small to cross his path. Keeping his chin low and tail near his back legs, he wound his way around the large birth of trees. It would not normally take this long for him to find something, but the chill kept most small rodents in the upper levels of tree limbs or already buried beneath the frosty ground. If boredom set in, who knows what would take place if he crossed paths with another wolf.

The red forest was a place she hadn't visited in quite some time. But she was back in the North, not to return to the pack that was ruled by her ex-mates family, but to see if any of her old haunts might bring her some form of closure, or at least clear her head so she would stop thinking about her past. At some point, she thought she had picked up her son's scent. But she had lost it almost as soon as she had found it. That was fine. She ran into him here and there, but she had made it clear that he didn't need to keep checking into her. He was an adult and was more than capable of taking care of himself now.

Nobody needed her anymore.

Sighing, she glanced up into the trees, watching as the grey clouds floated in and out of view. The quiet chatter of a distant squirrel was heard somewhere up above, but other than the chill of the air and the snow that would at some point fall, the forest was quiet. She picked a path that had been long covered by snow, but if memory served right, it was still there somewhere beneath the slush.

She walked quietly among the massive trunks. The smell of earth and cold air and pine tickling her nose. Amber gaze moved from one tree to the next, noting how each one had its own little quirk and the slight difference between them. No two trees were the same, though some might argue otherwise. Focused on the trees around her, she didn't quite realize someone else was in the area until her molten gaze spotted the figure between the trees. She stopped where she was, watching as he practically stood in the shadows. If she continued, would he follow? She didn't quite trust strangers...and she didn't like to turn her back on them, either. So she remained where she was, making eye contact as if to make a point that she was very much aware of his presence.

A chilly breeze tickled at his coat as he stood within the shadows. Thanking the heavens that he could easily camouflage himself, it wasn't long before a squirrel started to skitter down a trunk of a nearby tree. His eyes turned toward the small rodent as it came closer and closer to the ground. Lowering his body so that he practically was hovering, he stretched his toes, readying to pounce. Licking his lips, he went to move, but a noise startled the squirrel and before he could finish his attack, it was gone.

Standing up and looking around, Gilgamesh's yellowed gaze met one similar to his, but softer and more golden. Flattening his ears and curling his lips, a low rumble emitted from his throat. How had he not noticed her before? Huffing, he shook his head. Turning to face her more head-on, Gil stepped out from the shadows he had been hiding in. Noticing how her coat gleamed in the dying light of a lowering sun, he was curious why she was just staring at him. "Is there a problem?" He called out, taking a few steps closer to her.

With one ear still half down and the other pressed forward to listen, he was curious but still agitated. How could she ruin his snack like that? If he had been a wolf of words, he probably would have threatened her by now. But his body language was enough of an indicator of how he felt.
