Avantika's life felt like it had slowed to a near crawl. Stuff was still happening in the pack, but she was still plodding along the same routines she always did. She was doing her best. But it felt like if she didn't do something more, something she didn't even know what yet, that she'd always stay the same old foundling girl she'd always been. She was almost two! Almost an adult and she still didn't have a clue what she would do for the rest of her life. She'd expected to feel different. Stronger, or smarter, or more confident, or something. But she was still just Avantika. And how could 'just Avantika' prove her worth to her pack? The core thought spurring all those worries came to her one night, a stab in the back from her own brain: If she hadn't changed... Maybe--maybe she was still the same girl her parents had found so useless that they threw her away like trash when she was just a kid. The Hallows would never do that. They were kind and good, and they had saved her. And that didn't make her feel any better because that was why she had to be so beneficial to them. Jynn wandered to the battlefield to get some training in. She'd had a couple of close calls lately and a few old wounds to prove it. The more she wandered Boreas and Auster the more she was learning that it was important to be able to defend yourself against unfriendly wolves. Her companions trotted along after her as she arrived at the battlefield. It was late evening and soon the sun would be starting to set but Jynn felt she could find an opponent by the time night fell and heck, fighting in night time would be interesting and good practice if that came to it. She didn't have to wait long as she spied a familiar form. It was the girl she'd met in the fossil place. "Hey there! Are you out looking for a sparring buddy as well?"

Before Avantika could worry too much, someone thankfully showed up. It was the woman she'd met digging at that fossil not that long ago. She called out to her, and something in her belly fluttered at the sound of her voice. Huh. It was the same thing she'd felt about Cosette before that girl had vanished with her new crew. She wasn't bitter. In normal times, she probably wouldn't have cared at all. But given her current insecurity crisis, she felt more hurt about it than she should've. That insecurity was precisely why she shouldn't let herself even get a harmless little crush on anyone else, but she couldn't seem to stop glancing up at those pretty purple eyes. "Yeah," she said with a smile that seemed to her like it must have been a little too big. She got into her fight stance, hoping that would make her less nervous. It didn't. Jynn took on a fighting stance, swiftly setting her defenses as the girl agreed to a match. Her tail wagged a few more times before she remembered to tuck it. She didn't want the girl getting her by the tail and hauling her around. That would not be fun.

Avantika charged straight for her. Intent to use her speed to her advantage, Jynn leapt forward and to her left to try and land to Avantika's right side, her head twisted in as she attempted to grab the girl's scruff in her teeth, just in front of the shoulder blades. Jynn didn't really have much of a plan. She figured she'd just try and get a hold and then just see how this went. Hopefully her lack of planning wouldn't lead to her ruin in this fight.

Before Avantika could land her charge, Jynn moved out of the way. She was faster than her; that much was obvious. Her teeth found their mark around her scruff, achieving a solid hold. The patchwork foundling wasn't going to give up, and she twisted in turn, her muzzle reaching to try to grip Jynn's neck as well. Maybe they'd get stuck like that. Simultaneously, she would push her own body to the side, trying to shove her opponent. If she could push Jynn over, she would, even if they both ended up on the ground. She didn't like grabs much, and this was why. Too close, too hard to get out of. But she used them herself plenty, so she couldn't be too irritated. Jynn's fangs found purchase on the youth's scruff. Yay she had a hold! Shit, now what? They were similar in size but her opponent, though younger, was heavily built and Jynn doubted she could throw the girl down from this position and get a pin. Jynn twisted as the girl's head came for her own neck. By contorting her lithe frame she managed to keep her neck out of reach of the smaller girl but unfortunately doing so but her off balance and when Avantika shoved Jynn lost her footing and started to tumble. She tried to keep hold of the girl, hoping she could drag the youth down with her. Either way she kept her tail tucked and tried to pull her limbs in toward her body so she could protect her underbelly as she fell onto her side.
