Dagrún was not at all sure how she was going to hold up in a race but there was only one way to find out and that was to compete. She swayed a little as she walked down to the starting line carved into the sand on the beach that ran along the edge of the river. If there was one good thing about having a drink before the race it was that the wine was numbing her concerns about possibly falling on her face in this race. Hopefully her siblings weren't watching… unless she won of course. Dag decided it would be a win to just avoiding tripping or falling too far behind.

Corbie was taking in all the unusual goings-on with quiet interest. She'd lived a fairly solitary life with her mother before her death, and joining Tornach had not given her much more experience with large groups either, unless you counted sheep. She found the crowded area, the loud chatter, the drinking, didn't bother her any more than birdsong and rolling thunder would if she were alone, surprisingly, and she'd woven her way through the crowd observing. She'd accepted some drinks out of politeness and curiosity, but had only sipped at them, so when she stepped up to the starting line she had a clear head - and a renewed interest in her mother's occupation of mead-brewing from before she'd passed - and was ready to go. She was not at all confident of her ability to race, since the closest she'd gotten to it before was in chasing down sheep. She readied herself as best she could, then nodded to her opponent to signal her that she was good to go.
unless otherwise stated, Corbie's kinkajou companion is with her at all times

Dagrún grinned as her opponent arrived. She seemed like a spritely youth and would give a good challenge. Dag squared off against her opponent in the sand, watching her mountain lion companion for the start signal. When the lion's raised paw slammed down into the earth Dagrún kicked off. She bolted down the beach, slowing as she came to a rockier patch then putting on another burst of speed. She hadn't done much scouting of the terrain ahead of time but as long as they didn't run into any other predators she felt she could do well. A sand piper took off in front of her and she flinched but tried not to slow down to much.
