Ophie felt as though she hadn't made much progress learning to heal and mend. But maybe it was just cause her heart wasn't really in it yet, uncertainty lingered like a bad smell and for the hundredth time she wondered if she'd made the right choice. At a glance it made sense to abandon hunting since you know...she wasn't gonna catch anything fast in the current state she was in. But the Armada already had so many talented healers, they didn't need another rookie thrown into the mix. Knowing Ophie she'd only get in the way, make a mess of what ought to be something simple and easy. But she had to at least try, it wasn't right to give up before she'd even give it a shot. As tempting as it was to curl in on herself and fall back into old habits, she was gonna do her best today! Even if it ultimately didn't amount to much!

Setting out in the snow she traipsed through the grass, sniffing and snuffing the ground as she sought out some plants. She didn't know much, to be honest, but what better way to learn then find some on her own then seek out Gos to learn all about it? It felt like a good and safe place to start, and more than that it would keep her moving! Trundling all over the Armada in search of herbs and the like, it was a win-win really, and Ophie was eager to get started.

Her main issue as of now, was figuring out what plants were useful and which ones weren't. They all looked like weeds to her and even taking a whiff of their scent didn't help much at all. She slowed to a walk, coming across a cluster of leaves poking out through the snow. It was hard to say if they thrived in these conditions or if they were just too stubborn to die, maybe a bit of both? Taking a tentative nibble-probably not a good idea- Ophie stuck out her tongue as she shook her head, hoping to chase the taste away. Nope that was just a plant, nothing herby about it.

Moving on, Ophie pushed into the depths of the grass. The cold wind rustled her coat and made the Plains sway and wave, as though beckoning her on, inviting her deeper inside. She'd never really gotten lost in the grass, but it always felt like a threat looming overhead. Like it could happen when she least expected it. But what about that plant?

It was tall and covered in thistles, crowned by jagged purple flowers. She paced forward hesitantly, nose working as she took in its scent. The plant itself didn't smell too interesting, but there was something deeper to it, as though the real item of interest was hidden out of sight. She tipped her head in thought, trying to recall what Gos had once told her- oh that's right! Roots! A lot of plants weren't useful, but their roots were!

Pawing at the ground, Ophie let out a huff when she realised it was gonna be far easier said than done. Even without the snow the ground was cold and hard, she was gonna have to really work to cut through the hardened topsoil. And work she did! Unsheathing her claws she dug and scratched, sides heaving as she quickly became out of breath. But she did not give up and persisted, determined to make her way through to the prize that waited just below.

And there! She saw a flash of root amongst the kicked up dirt and slowed her movements, taking more care to brush it aside with the pads of her paw. It was thicker than she'd expected, yet still long and tendrilly, like fingers digging deep into the earth. Tipping her head she chewed off the roots and pulled a mouthful away, dangling from the side of her mouth like a freshly caught fish. She wasn't sure what she'd found but it looked like something the other healers might want to know about it, if they weren't already aware of what was growing beneath their paws and right in front of their noses.

Breaking into a lope she was eager to seek out either Aris or Gos, maybe even Sedna might be willing to teach her what this root was for! Either way, she felt accomplished, like this small little effort had transformed into something fun and worthwhile. Proof she wasn't wasting her time in following this line of avenue. There were already plenty of healers, but wasn't it a more the merrier sort of deal? Either way it wasn't a competition and Ophie was eager to learn from the best, to finally do something that earned her the title of Fatalis.
