I Feel It In My Soul

Come down, come down sweet reverence
The storm had slowed their progress so by the time they reached the cove below it was late in the evening. The sun was just about to disappear on the horizon, it's light casting a strange red glow across the land and the clouds that lingered on the horizon. Above the clouds she could see a few stars starting to appear. The cove itself was covered in black sand. A few palm trees grew here and there but most of the cove was bare. Jynn gazed out at the ocean which was awash in the crimson colors of the setting sun. "Hmm… well, I think we should turn in for the night. We take a detour north and head back tomorrow.

Dagrún was relieved when they finally found their way out of the mountains and onto the shore below. It was a strange beach of black sand but to Dag it was a relief just to see the ocean and have a best grasp of where she was. Dagrun followed Jynn over to a stand of palm trees and settled down nearby, watching the sun set. Jynn laid out the plan for tomorrow and she nodded absently, not really caring what the plan was so long as she had a chance to rest. Dag stretched her front legs out and rested her head on them, waiting for sleep to come. "Have you visited a lot of beaches Jynn?" She glanced over at the older woman.

Jynn looked down the course of the beach and wondered once more at the extent of volcanic activity here in the north. A gentle breeze wafted through the trees and she turned her attention to Dag as the girl asked about her travels. Jynn smiled and nodded. "A fair few I'd say. There's a beach in the south made of obsidian stone and of course there are white sand beaches in the more tropical areas. In Auster there's a place called the Shimmering Shore where the water lights up bright blue when you disturb it. She learned by now that the color was caused from bioluminescent creatures living in the water. She used to think it was magic.

Dagrún listened to Jynn speak with fascination. All of these beaches sounded neat especially the glowing one in Auster though that was quite a ways to journey. Dagrun couldn't quite see herself journeying that far but she might consider it for the chance to see the strange glowing beach, at least once. Dag pushed her forelegs forward, spreading the black sand ahead of her as her toes widened and massaged the sand. Autumn was cold here in the north but she could still feel some warmth from the sand, no doubt courtesy of the sun light during the day and the sands dark color absorbing the warmth.

Jynn closed her eyes for a moment, just enjoying the sound of the waves as they lapped up onto the beach. In the distance she could hear the calls of a few sea birds but beyond that it was just the water. Jynn stood for a moment, using her paws to dig into the sand as she worked to make herself a nice place to curl up and rest. Once her makeshift bed was made she curled up in a ball, burying her nose in her tail to help keep it warm against the chill of norther autumn. She knew it would be worse in winter but that did not dissuade her against visiting again once winter fell.

Dagrún watched the water rolling in and ought as if the ocean itself was breathing. She wondered what her mother would think of this place and she imagined the stories the viking woman would tell. Movement caught her attention and she looked over to see Jynn digging about in the sand. At first Dag wasn't sure what her companion was doing, maybe looking for clams or something? Once she saw the older woman was making a bed Dagrún got to her feet to do the same. She had a thicker coat than the maned wolf but she wouldn't say no to a little extra warmth. Once she was settled she curled up and went to sleep.
