got a couch covered in cobwebs
Avantika
It had been barely a few days since the swamp dweller had arrived on the southern continent, and had been busily exploring, when.. things started to get weird. Day was nothing unusual, but the night time had begun to turn into something eerie and unsettling. The moon had yet to wane. Some of the smaller critters he'd stumbled across were weird colours, and almost seemed to glow? While he'd seen a few oddly coloured wolves- himself, namely, and perhaps even a few who had glowed.. this felt different. Fireflies bobbed and dipped everywhere, but they were not the warm hues that he was used to. No, these ones came in cool blues, and seemed to vanish entirely if he got too close. Night had fallen now, and he was ready to try his luck at deciphering what could possibly be happening here. First, he'd set his sights on the sky. With the moon stagnating at its fullest, his attention had turned to the stars around it. Skilled enough to navigate by them whilst travelling here, he was well aware of which constellations were moving through the night sky. Well.. they did appear to be moving. One of the larger ones, with bright stars scattered throughout, had moved a little since he'd last charted them. However, he wanted to ensure that he wasn't imagining it, and cast his attention to a smaller smattering of stars on the other edge of the horizon. The green dappled yearling knew that around the start of winter, a small constellation that vaguely resembled a catfish would begin to crest over the eastern horizon. By now, it should be visible to him over the tops of the low trees that surrounded this beautiful garden where he'd begun his investigation. Sure enough, a few whiskers were poking up over the treeline, leading to the yawning mouth of the hungry fish. Okay, so it was just the moon acting up. Verdant gaze narrowed as he scrutinized the misbehaving celestial body, wondering what could possibly be the source of this strange occurrence. |
Things had gotten weird lately. Avantika knew what her world looked like. She liked things the same way all the time. The simple realities of life were a solid platform for her to build the life she loved. She liked improvising and was actually pretty adaptable, but she needed something to stand on. She'd traveled a bit outside of Hallows land once she'd noticed the odd changes. Was it like that everywhere? Apparently yes, as far as she'd gone so far. It was dark out now, but the moon was bright, and her eyes were sharp. It might be her first full night outside of her pack's lands since she'd been taken in. She didn't know exactly. But her heart thudded a little faster when she saw another wolf, and she considered just avoiding him before telling herself that she was just being cowardly and stupid. She had fought worse than one wolf, but her brain was too used to fear. She walked up to him, calling out, "Hey," in a friendly tone. He seemed to be staring at the sky, and she looked up too, but she wasn't studied enough in that subject to know what she was looking at. "Speech" |

His attention was diverted from the sky by the sound of a voice calling out to his left. Bone armoured features turned to face the fae, verdant gaze fixing upon her as he offered a small smile. She was taller than him, though there were enough cover around here that he figured he could make a break for it if need be. Her posture wasn't outright aggressive, and in fact, she seemed to wear some hesitation in the curve of her tail towards her hocks and the tilt of her mocha ears. "Hey there," he returned, auds perked. Her gaze seemed to have lifted towards the sky as well, and he found himself excited by the prospect of sharing some of his knowledge with someone else. Rather than close the distance between them, he decided to keep the cautious gap between himself and the larger fae. "Do ya live in these parts? Could ya tell me, is the moon always like this 'round here? I wouldn't think so, but.." he frowned lightly, and returned his emerald gaze to the skies and traced over the familiar patterns of the constellations again. |
To Avantika's reassurance, the man didn't approach too close. There was a comfortably cautious distance between them. He was shorter than her, too, although she knew that didn't matter nearly as much as skill in a fight. He greeted her and asked whether it was usual for the moon to appear like this. "I've never seen it like this before." She figured this was a decent enough time to try to share knowledge between them. "Do you have any guesses as to why this is happening?" She had none of her own, no serious ones anyway, so she wanted to know if anyone did. "Speech" |

Only slightly disheartening was her confirmation that this was, in fact, a new series of phenomena in Auster as well. "I've never seen it like this before." she admitted quietly, politely maintaining the gap between them. He frowned lightly at his dark paws, dissatisfied with the response. Part of him had been hoping that this was a regular occurrence, and someone would be able to offer up clues of some sort. "Do you have any guesses as to why this is happening?" she prompted, and he shook his head as he looked her way. Plopping his rump heavily on the ground, he glanced back up at the strange stars. He was beginning to notice the slightest change in them, but perhaps it was a trick of the light? Verdant gaze narrowed as he stared for just a moment at the heavens. Were they... growing? "If I was more superstitious I might tell ya it's the end of the world," he mused with a small chuckle, the corners of his lips turning up as he tipped his head over to one side and shot her a silly grin. "but I ain't, so I'm gonna tell ya it's probably gonna work itself out." he finally said with a heavy shrug. After a second of looking back up at the stars- they were definitely changing somehow, but he couldn't put pinpoint exactly how. This was going to be his newfound obsession for the coming nights, he could already feel the itch forming under his skin to poke and prod at anything he could find until the truth revealed itself. "Unless ya got any theories ya'self?" he asked, absently scratching his flank with his hind paw. |
The man sat and looked over at her with a grin. 'If I was more superstitious I might tell ya it's the end of the world'. She chuckled like him, but his words made her feel a little more nervous than she appeared outwardly. These weird changes could be harmless, but they could also be the start of something really bad. Maybe everything would get poisonous too eventually, not just change color. Or maybe a million other things. It was the not knowing what was going to happen that bothered her the most. She needed some degree of knowledge to feel safe and in control.
"No. That would mean I knew anything at all about this," she said wryly. "I was just hoping someone did." But it was a complete mystery so far.
