The pair were once again out in the weeping woods. Kotori had a notion Grimshaw hadn’t liked hunting at the hot springs as much and the mangroves promised to be extra mushy as it had just rained yesterday. As it was the streams were fuller today as they walked through the willows, the streams running a bit faster than normal. Still, the streams weren’t in the slightest way large, just bigger puddles than normal.

No surprise he was able to find deer pellets. Now that the crazed predators were going back to where they belonged the deer had been showing up more in mass. Kotori followed their scent and smiled as he found a mother doe with a fawn by her side.

Kotori looked back to Grimshaw. “Two for one.” The fawn wouldn’t be as much meat but the mom would be a nice quantity and the fawn wouldn’t live left alone anyway. So best they just take down mom then child in Kotori’s mind.

Grimshaw did his very best to avoid stepping in the water as they traveled, though also made some kind of effort at keeping it hidden by walking slightly behind Kotori. He didn't like any amount of water, and while he didn't really mind walking in ankle deep waters, he still didn't like it and would rather just stick to dry land. At least he hadn't suggested going back to the hot springs though, but Grimshaw wasn't about to say anything.

When they had found the pellets and then the mother and fawn, Grimshaw nodded in agreement to take them both down. He assumed their thought process was similar; hunt the mother for food and the fawn for sympathy. There was no way the fawn would survive on it's own and unless Kotori wanted some kind of lookalike pet, he couldn't fathom a single reason anyone wouldn't just end it's suffering early. "You split the mother and fawn and pick one to take down, I'll handle the other one."

"Speech."

Kotori nodded to Grimshaw’s plan, it was simple enough.  He had imagined the two doing the mom then going to grab the fawn but either way worked.  “Alright.” A thoughtful glance at Grimshaw who seemed to enjoy making things harder on himself with longer chases.  “You can have the doe.  If you want to move a bit farther away from me I can try to make sure the doe runs towards you when I scare it.  Then I’ll chase the fawn.”

Kotori would give Grimshaw time if he did decide to move position.  Either way, once they were both prepared Kotori ran out of hiding snarling and biting down towards the deer’s ankles.  It fled before his teeth hit anything of course but that was fine.  He followed it a few strides to make sure it went towards Grim before Kotori swerved away.

The fawn was confused, it hadn’t been able to follow its mom the way Kotori had cut them off.  It walked towards its mom confusing bleating sounds at it then jumping away though the next moment from the scary wolves.
Kotori turned his attention towards the fawn.  It wouldn’t bleat for mom much longer.

Grimshaw was plenty fine with Kotori's decision to take the fawn and leave the doe to him. He looked forward to hunting the mother instead of mercy killing the fawn, there wasn't any fun in that. When his partner moved off to separate the doe from her fawn, Grimshaw moved into position as he waited for the doe to become refocused on her fawn. When her head turned back towards the calls of her child, Grimshaw leapt from his hiding place and lunged for the doe. His teeth scraped the shoulder of the cervid as he wrapped his powerful forelimbs around the back of the animal and held on. The doe now in a panic for her own life, struggled underneath the weight of the massive wolf and cried out as she tried to escape.

"Speech."

Kotori glanced back to see Grimm taking care of the deer.  Kotori needed to do nothing else for it.  The fawn really wasn’t much of a hunt but it was meat and it was bound to die.  Kotori ran at it, the fawn started to run but Kotori was on it a few strides later.  He grabbed the fawn by the throat and easily pulled it to the ground.  

The horned wolf placed a large paw on its shoulder, leaning over it to bite the throat.  The fawns tried crying out again but the sound rattled.  The eyes glazed over.  Kotori watched the fawn die then looked over to make sure Grim wasn’t going to need his help on the deer.

The cries and the final death sound of the fawn might affect the mom and make the kill even easier for Grim though it didn’t look like it would matter.  He’d have the doe dead soon enough.

The battle with the doe wouldn't go on much longer and soon enough, all the fighting the doe was doing would exhaust her and she'd be far too easy to finish off. Grimshaw wasn't going to let the mother suffer and watch her fawn die, so at least she had that going for her. As his weight crushed her underneath him, her thin legs buckled and she cried out again for her fawn and for anyone to somehow help her. It was useless however, and soon the doe would find the dire wolf's sharp teeth releasing their hold on their shoulder and exchange it for a kill shot straight into the throat. The final cry of the animal was weak, barely even a cry but Grimshaw held on until her final breath before letting go, climbing off, and giving his pelt a good, relaxing shake.
