Restless Soul

Chade roamed the border of the island, not so much expecting dangerous predators but to get to know the edge and he was still feeling his emotions twirled into a knot. The ocean was a nice backdrop and there was something in the waves that was suggested it might slowly soothe his soul. Hopefully, a predator would show up. Are any of those dangerous fish able to walk on land? Any bear find its way along the strip of land that got to the island without being caught yet?
Maybe Chade should head off the island and explore out there for a threat. The need to prove himself was back, to remind himself that never again would he be a victim and never again would someone have to die on his watch. Never again would he sacrifice one wolf to save another.
Maybe hunting predators alone wasn’t the best idea but how could he look at Manea right now? She knew the truth. Had she told Alastor? He was her mate so it was possible. Who else might know? There were a lot of things Chade didn’t have an answer for but he did know how to fight. With a deep sigh, the boy suddenly stopped and just sat to stare at the waves. It wasn’t that hunting down a predator was the worse idea in the world it was the fact he’d so easily let his emotions decide what he should be doing.
Surviving had always been about logic and not emotion. Was he going to throw away logic now that he was in a pack? In a way that was still becoming weaker instead of stronger. He yearned to prove himself but reckless actions weren’t his way of doing things. Chade stayed still, focusing on the sounds of the waves. To quit thinking so much for a few moments and just find the right course of action.

Avacyn trotted around the island, stretching her legs while she looked for things to use in some of her projects, her ravens Loqui and Cogitare lazily swooping through the air and coasting on the breeze above her while they assisted in spotting anything shiny or sparkly. Now that they were back on the island and she had a real place to store her things without having to worry about carrying them everywhere she was back to crafting up a storm. In the cave system where her and her family had set up their dens her father had made her a little workshop in one of the smaller caves that branched off the main chamber and she was having a wonderful time filling it full of treasures she found and seeing what she could make out of them all.
As she was walking Loqui called down to her to alert her of another wolf, making her lift her gaze from the sand in front of her to look at the dark blue-hued boy up ahead of her. She had seen him around quite a bit, spending time with her mother mostly, and knew his name was Chade but that was all she really new about the lone pup and his brother. In true Saracyn fashion her brother had seemed to take some kind of offense to the boys hanging around with their mother so often, but she didn't really care. It wasn't like she was lacking in attention from her parents either way and Chade at least seemed like a good fighter and hunter so he was logically a beneficial addition for the pack.
Her steps slowed a bit as she ended up walking up to him, standing next to him as she gave him a nod. She noticed the pensive look on his face and she gave a little tilt of her head. "Hi, Chade. Are you alright?"

Chade heard the sound of paws crunching ever so softly on the sand, turning his head as Avacyn drew close. He had met her first, before all the rest. It had been a rather fast meeting with an accusation of a broken trap and a deal set. She was growing up to be quite the beauty. “Oh, hey Avacyn.” Other than that meeting and her name Chade didn’t know all that much about her either. The daughter of the leaders, maybe he should know more than that?
“I’m alright. My brother and I just had a difference of opinion.” That was putting it mildly but he didn’t want to go into real details. “Might sound silly but we just don’t do that very often.” Chade shrugged the matter away, it was hardly a small thing but he knew when attention needed to be focused elsewhere. The problem would be there ready to be worked out later in his mind.
“I was thinking of hunting,”a rueful smile as he added, “kind of hoping to find something with big teeth to hunt. You know, a bear or something along those lines.” He gave a moment's pause before adding, “do you like killing predators also?” Chade assumed she found time to train with her parents to become as great of a fighter as they were.

Avacyn gave the blue-hued boy a curious glance when he said how he and Ricin had a difference of opinion, but he didn't elaborate nor did it seem like he wanted to. She was interested to hear what could have caused the tightly knit boys to have had a disagreement, but she wouldn't press him right away if he didn't feel like discussing it. She gave a little nod of understanding when he said how they didn't come to this sort of thing that often and she understood why that would be difficult for them. "Saracyn and have different opinions on things pretty often," she said with a soft chuckle, giving him a small, encouraging smile. "Siblings always come around though. Don't worry." She wasn't sure just how intense this falling out had been, but perhaps he'd be willing to let her in on it eventually.
Chade shifted the topic to something a bit more familiar and comfortable, mentioning how he was thinking of doing some hunting. She gave him a look of interest even though she was certainly not the hunter of the family. Saracyn firmly took that honor while she spent much more time on her crafting and fighting. She would still indulge Chade in a bit of hunting if he needed a partner for it though, but then he surprised her by telling her that it wasn't prey he was wanting to hunt, but something with big teeth. That made her much more interested and her brows lifted with surprise. She gave a wider grin and nodded to his question, replying, "Sure, I enjoy that."
She didn't have the particular fascination with killing the predators that her brother did, but she understood it was a common byproduct of fighting and injuring the other creatures. She supposed it was actually more merciful to kill them than allow them to continue suffering since she hardly ever just drove them off. There was always some kind of fatal wound involved in their fights. "I'll go with you to hunt one down if you'd like," she offered, wondering if maybe getting some fighting in would help him work out his emotions.

Chade could see anyone wanting to fight with Saracyn. The guy was an ass and Ava seemed nice for a total clash of personalities. Admittedly, Chade didn’t know either of them very well and who knew what they were like or how they really felt about things. Still, she was much easier to get along with and at least acted like she cared and maybe she really did? Her smile was at least enough to get a small smile from the depressed boy.
As Ava agreed to go hunt with him Chade’s smile brightened a bit more. Hunting for a bear wasn’t quite as crazy when he had someone to help him. It wasn’t that Chade couldn’t do his own part in a fight but admittedly it felt that two would make things much easier than one. “Your mom and dad helped me fight a few bears at points. I guess they’ve taken you out to kill bears also? They’re really good at it.” Putting his mind to something more positive definitely helped. Chade still hurt inside but at least now there was a distraction.
Chade got up, trotting while staying on the edge of the island, “Do you get many predators on the island or do we need to cross to the mainland?” After a second adding with some determination to his voice, “a bear killed our sister,” it wasn’t ‘my’ sister, everything always came out as shared with Ry being a part of it. “So, I like how it feels, killing them.” It was better to blame the bear than when Chade blamed himself but it was both of their faults. He liked no longer being the helpless puppy but instead the one who was truly the predator with the bear as his prey. It wasn’t a thing he’d normally mention but that bear was very much on his mind considering how it had a part to play in what felt like his brother’s betrayal of such a secret.

Avacyn chuckled a little when Chade brought up how her parents had fought predators with him before and she nodded, confirming that she had indeed gone to fight bears and the like with them before as well. "They do love fighting dangerous animals, that's for certain." Her father especially always had an eagerness for dangerous tasks and fights which she could admire about her parents. They never backed down from a challenge and even sought them out just for fun occasionally as well. She was perhaps a bit more cautious and logical in her daily routines than they were at times, but she liked having that kind of ambition and daringness to look up to.
They started to move around the perimeter of the island together and Chade asked about if there were many predators on the island. "There are still some bears and big cats around the island sometimes," she replied with a nod. "They still come across the land bridge sometimes. I don't know if they realize a wolf pack has taken over this place all the time. Plus, it's a big island and we only use a portion of the mountains." There was more than enough rough terrain on the other side of the mountains for the bears to hide away in.
The conversation took a bit of a turn when Chade brought up the fact that his and Ricin's sister was killed by a bear and she looked over to him with a bit of a frown. She hadn't known that he and his brother had any other siblings before now. Her family had only ever been her and Saracyn so she didn't know what it was like to loose a sibling, but she knew the Mendacium laws and rules and knew that when her mother did eventually have another litter there would inevitably be a death or two involved. Her mother had made it clear to her in their lessons that not everyone would have the same view on death and sacrifice that they would so she didn't really know how to respond, but she could at least agree with the feeling of liking killing the things that had caused him pain. "I'm sorry about your sister," she told him after a moment. "Lets go find you a bear to kill." She gave him a little smile and kept going, signaling for her ravens to help them in their hunt.
