One more for the road
Saracyn

She couldn't help but wonder—why were there so many bears out and about?! It certainly gave them plenty to do on their trip through the north, but first the Kodiak bear and then the grizzly... and now, as she walked with Saracyn through the thinly packed pine trees, she caught the scent of another. She just scoffed and shook her head, glancing to Sara with a smirk. "Want another?" She didn't think he'd ever turn down another fight, but considering the swath of blood they had already wrecked across the north she figured she'd check. There was never any hesitance in her twin when it came to this though so they followed the scent all the way to a giant, white polar bear. It felt only fitting that they'd end their tour of bears with the biggest and the meanest. Now she just hoped that they didn't run into another getting back home.

It wasn't that Saracyn didn't enjoy fighting and killing things, because he did, especially when it was with Avacyn, but when they'd set out on their twin day outing together, he hadn't exactly come out prepared to fight the entire world with her. The yearling was now sporting more than a few good bruises and bites, and his energy level was beginning to drop. What made it worse was how many of these damn bears seemed to be out and about! Shouldn't they all have been asleep for the season?! Saracyn hated bears on a good day—today was not a good day for them to keep interfering.
As if the fates were aligning to fuck him up further, the twins caught a lingering scent up north as they traveled. The smell was distinctly ursine, but this one was slightly different than the others, and one Saracyn couldn't place right away. Avacyn rolled her eyes in exasperation, clearly as done with the bears as he was, then asked if he wanted another one. For a brief moment, the Mendacium prince considered letting it go in favor of doing anything else with his sibling—but they'd already come this far and killed so many things. What harm could one more do?
"Sure, why not?" he said with an equally exasperated chuckle. Together, the two wolves stalked the scent, following it northward to a sparse forest of pine trees. The lack of cover made it fairly easy to see the polar bear moving about the land. Ah, so that's what that scent had been! "All right, time to execute the trademark Mendacium Bear Killing technique!" he teased with a playful grin. Divide and conquer seemed to be the most effective strategy when dealing with the bears, so Saracyn opted to run for the bear, barking and growling and snarling to draw its attention for Avacyn to sneak up on it. Once the bear was fully focused on him, roaring to threaten the wolf away, Sara carefully maneuvered himself in a circle around their foe, positioning it with its back facing his twin.

Avacyn chuckled and gave a little shake of her head at her brother as he called into play the 'Mendacium Bear Killing technique', returning his playful grin. Somehow, even with how their day had gone so far, he still managed to make this fun. He ran at the bear, drawing its attention, and she began to move closer more stealthily than her brother, darting from tree to tree as cover. She watched as he angered it and started to circle it to get the massive bear to turn around, leaving its rear exposed to her. She smirked and then ran in, moving fast and quiet so it wouldn't notice her until it was too late. She aimed her attack for the back of its knee, latching her jaws onto the joint and digging her claws into either side of its leg for good measure. She ripped and sliced at the joint and was greeted with a deep roar of pain, but she accomplished what she set out to do and she left the tendons in the joint give away and its leg collapsed under its own weight. She jumped back out of the way before that massive paw could reach her as it struggled to turn around, but with one of its legs nearly useless it was having a hard time even turning to face her.

Distracting the polar bear was easy. Bears were stupid and singleminded in the winter, looking at everything like it might be a prospective meal. The white-furred ursine in front of him was no exception. The bear huffed, chuffed, and bellowed as it tried to scare the yearling wolf away. Saracyn just growled back and grinned his cocky grin. The bear had no idea what was coming—but Saracyn did. He saw the violet form of his twin sister creeping up behind their foe, a beautifully stark contrast against the bland white of the snow, but the bear never saw it. Ava attacked its hind legs immediately, slashing and tearing at one to render it immobile. Sara watched with macabre glee while his sister eviscerated the bear's tendons and muscles with vicious precision. Sometimes he was truly so envious of the gifts she'd been given when he got to watch her put them to use. But it just meant he had to compensate in other areas for his lack of mutations.
One of those areas of compensation was aggression. As soon as the polar bear toppled and tumbled under its own weight on its dead leg, Saracyn meandered around the bear with a swagger in his step. The bear was focused on Avacyn, trying to turn futilely to reach her. It gave Saracyn the opening he needed to sidle calmly up beside the bear and extend his serrated blade from his bracer, slicing through the wrist of the bear's forepaw opposite its crippled leg. The bear roared in pain and tried to swipe at Saracyn, but found its paw rendered limp and useless. "Aww, what a shame. Look at this, Ava, the poor thing can't stand or swipe anymore." He mocked the polar bear openly, no longer fearing this massive carnivore that they had effectively crippled. He drove his blade into the soft flesh between the bear's shoulder and chest, just for good measure to ensure it wouldn't be able to use that foreleg against them. The bear roared and whined in agony, sounding like it was pleading for mercy. "Hmm, what should we do with the poor creature, dear sister?" he asked, giving his twin a darkly playful grin as they tormented and mutilated the bear.

With its hind leg rendered useless the bear was far less of a threat than it might have once been and she was glad that this fight went so smoothly after how the grizzly bear had gone. She felt like they needed an easy win to round out their violent day of fights and this was turning out to be just that. She glanced toward Saracyn while she stood just out of reach of the wildly swiping bear, smirking a little when she saw how calmly he was sauntering up around their foe. He cut across one of its ankles with his blade and with another pained roar the bear's paw was crippled as well. Sometimes Saracyn could really snow his darker, more twisted side, but Avacyn found it amusing. She chuckled at his comment about the poor bear and with another slice making its whole foreleg immobile it really was true. She settled back onto her haunches, grinning as Saracyn asked what they should do. "Well, I think it's only right to put it out of its misery," she told him, chuckling as she considered how to do it. Really, with how they had ambushed it and crippled it like this she really thought the fair thing to do was at least give it a quick death, so she replied, "Why don't you give it one more good stab, hm? Maybe right through the brain. That ought to do it."
