Avacyn

Fia spent most of her time either in the family den or occasionally out by the lake of the island. She didn't have much interest in going any further than that, but if one of her family members had taken her out further she wouldn't complain. She wasn't really the type to not get in trouble, but she just had no desire to get into things she shouldn't or go against rules. Not right now in her life at least. She had everything she needed right here.
Today her natural and quiet curiosities got the best of her and she went to go find her sister Avacyn. She had taken a liking more to her sister than her brother if only unspoken. She really did look up to her even if she didn't seem so ecstatic. She would wander a little farther than she normally would have to find her without much thought to it really. She was already imagining what she could be helping her with today.

There was a lot of work to do out at the Firefly Lake now that it was officially theirs and she was in the thick of preparing and planning for those updates and changes. Currently she was mapping out the plans for the guard rest post that they had planned for the far side of the lake. Even though the pack that had shared a border with them had dissolved, she still thought it would be a good idea to move forward with those plans first. It was a pretty long distance from the island and it would be good to have somewhere for their warriors to take shelter if a storm popped up or something like that.
She was standing next to a pile of various pieces of wood and building materials that she had slowly been accumulating and was sketching out her ideas in the dirt with her claw, figuring out what materials she would need and how much. A bit of motion out of the corner of her eye made her look up and she saw the red-hued form of her fire-marked sister walking toward her. She smiled and her tail wagged gently behind her at the sight of her little sister and she lifted a large paw to wave her over. "Fia! Perfect timing. I'm trying to pick what to use for the roof of this guard post." She pointed to a couple different kinds of wood and thatch, just small samples that she'd need to collect more of when construction actually began. She knew any of them would work fine, this was mostly a choice over what would look the best so it was a fun thing to include the pup in on. "What do you think?"

As she found Avacyn and approached her, she reflected in just the same way her sister greeted her with a small smile and a wag of her own tail. She guessed she felt happy that Ava was happy to see her in turn, especially while she was so eager to get to spend some time with her and help her with whatever she could.
Her paws were still a little careful forward as Ava waved her in, and her little eyes and nose peeked over at what she had been working on with a little blueprint and the few materials she had set out. As Ava discussed that she was trying to pick which one to use, Fia stepped forward around the drawing that Ava had made and then went to look at the wood further. She did take her time, as if it was important for her to pick the right one even if it was strictly just for appearance. Her paw and nose poked at each of the options before she finally looked back at her sister, "Well I like the darker colors." She spoke in her opinion but wondered, "Are they any different besides that?"

Avacyn enjoyed seeing Fiametta so carefully consider the question laid out in front of her. It was adorable seeing her little sister sniff at the different materials and examine them so throughly and it made her happy to have her sibling take the task she had given her so seriously even if in the end the result would realistically be the same. These were the little details she cared about too so she was enjoying having a sibling that was just as interested in the little creative decisions that went into stuff like this. Fia eventually looked back to her and mentioned how she liked the darker colors, which Ava nodded in agreement to. Then she asked if there were any other differences and she grinned as she settled down onto her haunches beside Fia, more than happy to discuss the details of what was in front of them.
"Any of these would do the job, but there are a few differences we could consider." She pointed a white-tipped paw toward the small pile of thatch on the right and told her, "The thatch is easier to collect and a lot lighter so carrying it out to the lake would be easier and getting it onto the roof of the hut would be easier as well, but it's not as durable so we'll have to replace it and repair it more often. I imagine we'd have to swap it out each spring after the winter snows." She moved on to some of the pieces of wood, adding, "The woods are all pretty much the same in how they function and the difficulty of getting the materials we'd need. They'll last longer and will be a more permanent solution, but they'll be more time consuming and difficult to get on the front end. There's not a ton of difference between the different kinds of wood besides what is more plentiful in our own lands and what we'll need to go source from other places. The darker ones we both like are a little bit harder than the lighter ones which would make them more durable."
She looked down to Fia then, wondering if she was absolutely boring her little sister or if she was still interested in this project she had created for herself. She could have just thrown up any old thing for the guard's hut, but she didn't like to do things half way so now here she was, debating roof materials with her little sister. "Does any of that change your opinion? Or do you still think we should go with this darker wood?" She picked up one of the dark oak shingles that she had cut out as an example, holding it where they could see it against the other options while they considered.

Fia was quiet as usual as her sister explained the differences in the wood that she had laid out to chose from. She was sure she would remember for later on, though she wondered if all the lighter woods would be the same as the one Avacyn had collected. Her head crooked just a smidge as she looked down at the wood pieces and back to her sister as she explained. It was an easy explanation at least, and while maybe a little more articulate than a pup, even for Fia, could handle she did understand well enough.
She hummed a little and looked over the options again as Avacyn asked again if she still thought they should go with the darker wood. "If we need it now, we can use the easier to gather wood and we can collect the darker wood for the spring time to change it out." She suggested, and of course hoped she'd be bigger and stronger to be able to help with that later on. "I think the darker wood is better if it lasts longer."
