OOC:: Set before the pack moves.

He had been spending time with Tanelan, as well as doing some other things both in and out of the pack lands. Beauregard had realized he hadn’t said much of anything to Wren since they had become an official pack… despite the fact he was supposed to be reporting his findings of Tanelan to her. A small flutter of guilt flicked within Beau’s heart. He wasn’t trying to avoid her or anything, though he supposed her duties might have made it harder for her to have interacted with everyone as she might have liked. There was a lot to get done… a whole lot. More than Beau had thought about. He had made a mental note to try and gather some herbs here soon. He wouldn’t know their name but maybe he could find something useful for the pack again by accident. Like the medallions.

…and so Beau left Trill to watch over Tanelan as he set off through the Gorge. He was sure that Wren was already up and about, ever diligent about patrolling and whatever else that needed to be done. His ear flicked thoughtfully as he looked toward the treeline. What else could he do as a member of Menagerie to make things easier for the pack? He knew Wren had a list of tasks that were recommended… and though he had chosen one to do he was sure there were other things that could be done. Maybe he’d have to take a page out of Sayuri’s book and try to be creative. He smiled, keeping a lookout for the alpha as he walked along.

It was time to move.

Wren had spoken with Mercury and decided to get the pack to leave for the SS Antiox. It would be good shelter, and the Pines below them also good hunting. She could stand to claim land that was ripe for the taking. When she began to drag her meager belongings from the cave she shared with Mercury, she spotted Beauregard. He seemed to be looking for someone - though she could fathom it was her.

A leader's work is never done. "Hey, Beau" she said as he approached her "good timing" She was going to announce to everyone about their intentions to go further north anyway "we're going to be moving locations soon" she added to him "to where you found those medallions. Remember the ship?" Of course he did, he wasn't short of memory.

She continued. "There's a woodland below it, and a wall lost to time" she said, carefully placing her windchime in the leather sheet of 'paper' before rolling it up "it's good for defending, but most of all it's more spacious than the Gorge" Wren looked up at the lad "in a week's time, we're going to be leaving for the ship. Can you go around and inform the others?"

Wren called to him, greeting him as he approached her. He smiled, tail giving a small wag as he greeted her in return. “Ah, Wren! Greetings!” She had said he had good timing and the young man blinked. Good timing for what? His ears perked forward, listening to what the alphess had to say. Apparently they were going to be moving to the ship soon for their base of operations. It had been cold in it, but he supposed with the nesting in the rooms they could make it warm enough. They’re definitely be enough room for everyone there. It could be good for defending too, she was right.

“I can let them know,” The young man gave a nod. He didn’t mind spending the word that they would be moving. “It’ll be an interesting change of pace but the move sounds reasonable.” He supported the woman. “I did want to talk to you about something though.” The male’s smile started to fade. “It’s about Tanelan. I haven’t noticed Mika return yet but…” He tilted his head to the side.

“Another one did. He called himself Benson. He’s not like Mika in personality though. Very timid, uncertain… almost like a kid.” Beau furrowed his brow. “I got him to agree if he comes out and doesn’t see me to come find me. I don’t think that part of Tan is dangerous.” He lowered his rear to the earth and curled his tail around his toes. “It’s… a bit odd. Tanelan doesn’t seem bad, but I can’t help but wonder how many other, different lives he has inside of him.” Beauregard lifted his gaze to Wren’s own.

“I want to help him.” He said softly. “It… It has to be weird for all of them, right? Gaps in their memory, living with different selves…” His ears lowered. “Do you think we’ll ever find a healer that can help him feel whole? And… if he stopped having these others… what would that be like? Would it be as if they died?” Beauregard was worried for Tanelan’s alters. Weren’t their lives important too? It was a tricky situation… and it didn’t have a clear answer.

Beauregard had a lot on his mind. Clearly, watching for Tanelan was not a burden but a quest. One that the yearling boy wanted to complete. Hearing about Benson, Tanelan and Mika... How many others were inside of the purple wolf? Audra said it was brought on by trauma, but the Paladin hadn't ever talked to her about such things. She furrowed her brow. "Audra will look at him when she has time" and when Tanelan felt comfortable with her "but it'll be soon." She would make sure the young man was really not a threat to the pack.

"I'm not sure, though" Wren answered honestly "I want to believe all those personalities will subdue, shape and change into one wolf. I don't know the mind as well as I hear things about it. I want to believe they're part of Tanelan already, and they're just manifesting in different ways" But she really did not know "he's separate right now. He needs to be whole. It won't be that they died, Beau. He'll be reborn with all of them inside him. Each is a different but complete part." That is what she wanted to believe.

The promise that Audra would look at him soon, once she had the time, was a small reassurance. Sometime soon. Beauregard did his best to relax at the alpha woman’s words. She didn’t know for certain how things were going to turn out, but the way Wren described it certainly sounded like reasonable, although wishful thinking. Beau decided that was likely the best course for Tan, to become whole with all those personalities meshing together inside him as one, full wolf. He gave a small nod.

“I hope you’re right. I don’t… like the idea that anyone might suffer as he does.” Beauregard admitted. “With the exception of how Mika was when we first interacted he’s been okay to be around. I don’t mind it at all.” He furrowed his brow. What were they going to do if Tanelan couldn’t become whole though? Would Beau spend his whole life watching after the other? Surely Wren wouldn’t deem him a danger to the pack and kick him out? The uncertain future caused him to give a small sigh.

“I just wish I could do more. I hate seeing a packmate like this.” Beauregard’s gaze fell toward his paws. “I know not everything is light and purity… but feeling helpless, doing little more than watching, waiting, and reporting… I want to do more, Wren… there has to be something more I can do to help.” He lifted his gaze back to her. “Tell me what I can do to help him. To help Menagerie…” His ears fell. Was he doing enough? Was there something more he could be doing? He hated this feeling of doubt. It wasn’t like him to falter and yet…

"Beau, you do enough."

She understood the feeling of uselessness but she wouldn't let the boy put himself down when he was already doing more than most. She huffed, stepping closer to meet his eyes but not inside his personal space at all. Her head lowered somewhat but still was raised higher. Trying to sound as confident as she thought she did.

"You're beating yourself up about something you can't control - take it from me, that isn't the way to do it" she told him bluntly but not unkindly. She was not screaming at him in the face, but it was clear she wouldn't take him being cruel toward himself "you should focus on your training. One day you'll be a Paladin, a part of the guild officially. Not seen as a child. Do what you are doing right now; protecting the guild and its members."

She eyed the lad for his reaction before moving on.

"Even being a child - a boy - in the eyes of other wolves, you already are one of our most active members. You do more than most adults do. You're available to help, you do help and follow through with it. Don't bring yourself down. If you start to falter, it reflects poorly on yourself and the ones you're close to. Don't let others see weakness in you, Beau. It doesn't suit you. You're stronger than that."

Wren was quick to tell him that he did enough, to make sure that he wouldn’t beat himself up about something he couldn’t control. The ashen cream male shifted a little, knowing the woman was right. He couldn’t dwell on the things that he couldn’t change or control… what good would stressing about those things do? His expression shifted a little, and he gave a small nod. All he could really do for now was focus on his training, on becoming the best him he could be. He’d be part of the guild’s future, and he was already working hard toward that, wasn’t he? Being active as he could.

Wren was quick to recognize that. He was doing more than most adults did. He started to feel a little better, the tension that was quick to grip him a moment ago starting to melt away. His smile returned a little, and he gave a small nod. “You’re right.” He was definitely more than willing to help others, and always followed through with what he promised. He was doing everything he could, wasn’t he? And if he faltered now, and changed that, just because of what he couldn’t do, then was he really being true to himself?

“I’ll stay strong.” He promised Wren. “I want to help Tan, but some parts might be out of my paws. I’ll have to leave that to Audra, maybe even other healers too.” He smiled brightly again. “One day Tanelan will be just fine, and when he’s whole we’ll still be good friends!” His tail started to wag. “By the way, I spoke with Mercury recently. We had a small spar against each other.” He shifted the topic, to something lighter.

“I think you made a very good call making him our Seneschal! He’s super knowledgeable, and really nice too.” He felt the need to bring up something good that had been going in the pack as well. “We also had a brief visit from a member of the Hallows. He uh… wasn’t a wolf though! Some kind of really, really big bird. He was super neat! Sybil and I spoke to him; his name was Zephyrus! He said that his family, the King, and Queen of the Hallows, were visiting the Armada. It could be worth a visit to the Armada to say hello, right?” There, that was more like him. He was full of info again and, hopefully, some of it might be useful to the alpha.

It didn't surprise her to learn that Beauregard had trained with Mercury, nor that Mercury was doing good on his word to train the Mage Paladins. She reclined quietly, listening to the boy's words. She wondered if he was going to ask her about her relationship with the stormy man but he moved quickly on instead.

"I thought I smelt bird" Wren wrinkled her nose at the knowledge a 'wolf' from the Hallows had come onto their land. She was more amused than anything "I'm planning on bringing Sybil with me to Armada's border once the finishing touches are done with gifts. For the Hallows; diplomatic, and for Armada; gratitude." She didn't miss Beauregard's hint about visiting but she kept the items secret from him.

It would be more fun if he found out by someone bragging about Menagerie's crafting skills later!

"As for Mercury" she shifted her weight "did he tell you that I met him in another realm?" she paused before adding "we've known each other for a year almost before the guild. He used to be small if you can believe it. Always followed after me when I visited his family's pack. When our home was destroyed, I thought I'd never see him again. He's not just my good friend. He's a survivor, a dreamer. I think we all need to do a bit of both sometimes."

She cracked a grin, amused. Wondering what else Mercury and Beauregard talked about, and did.

Wren had noticed Zephyrus’ visit. She didn’t seem to be mad at it though and Beauregard took comfort in that knowledge. He smiled a little at that; Zeph had undoubtedly had a different scent compared to another wolf. She mentioned that she was planning on bringing Sybil, the other yearling, with her to Armada’s border. She was even going to bring both of the other two packs gifts; this was good news, Beauregard thought to himself. His heart swelled with pride and he gave a small nod. Good, Wren wasn’t disappointing him in the least. Whenever he had a concern or thought to bring up for the pack Wren seemed to be on it. She was a good alpha, at least in the yearling’s eyes.

“I actually didn’t know.” Beauregard told her, feeling fascinated that the two of them had met elsewhere, outside Boreas. It was comforting that Wren and Mercury had both come from another place though, just as he did. His ears fell a little when she mentioned that their home was destroyed… but the message that she gave him was clear enough. Beauregard gave a small nod. “We haven’t really talked about each other’s pasts much. I’m glad to know that even in tragedy you managed to find somewhere new though, and with an old friend too! You’re pretty lucky, Wren!” Beauregard smiled brightly.

He wasn’t sure how he’d have reacted if something had happened to Abyssium while he was living there. That had to be really hard on both of them… Maybe he’d have to get to know Mercury a little better sometime? And Wren too, for that matter, if he could find the right way to ask without potentially upsetting her. “When exactly did you guys meet again? Was it here in Boreas? Did you know you were going to make a pack before? Or after?” Other questions bubbled out of his mouth however as the yearling became more curious about his leader. Plus it seemed really cool that, despite being separated, the two could meet again. Maybe he’d see Crowley or Alessa again!

Boy, he asked a lot of questions! "Shortly after I decided to make a pack" Wren replied patiently "he suddenly showed up in Armada's market, hurt and confused" the thought of finding Mercury hurt again made the woman uneasy "we talked and he began to help me. Get alliances and other things. He went out of his way to go to some packs and introduce himself on behalf of our guild. Of course, I didn't know he did until he told me later." She shrugged, not bothered.

"So" since Beauregard wasn't prodding about her relationship, she decided to move on "let's get everything together here" she invited him, moving to collect belongings and other personal objects "Armada lent us a cart to move things" She didn't know if the other members would have personal belongings already; it had been a short time to settle in "we'll go around to each wolf and ask him or her if they need help, okay?" She made it his choice but she did need the help.
