Nico had met up with Echo after leaving the beach and told his magpie friend all that had happened that day. He told Echo all about Calico Jack and the great time they’d had. Told the bird about how huge ships were and about crabs.
Echo had told him stuff too. Echo had told him what an idiot he was and how dangerous it was for Nico there. Nico had decided in the end that Echo was both right and wrong. It wasn’t really safe but Echo couldn’t understand the pup’s need to be around those like him. Echo had told him not to go back.
So, here it was with the sun rising up he’d made his way back to the beach and waited for Jack to come to invite him back on the beach. Nico had bounded onto the wolf's territory the moment Jack invited him. “Hey, Jack. I was thinkin’ you seem like the sort who likes adventures n’ all right? You know there’s a requirement for them? You gotta be able to bear the tar out of anyone who gets in your way. You can’t cower, can’t wimp out if your hurt, and never ever fight dumb. Ya gotta outthink your enemy.” Nico tapped his head twice as if offering a picture to this important part.
“So, time to teach ya a thing or two.” Nico swiped out his paw to whack at the side of Jack’s face. It was a decent smack but definitely playful. “Calico Jack, I challenge you to an all-out battle! Oh, and if I win we eat next!”

In the short time he has known Nico, Calico Jack has thoroughly enjoyed the coyote pup’s presence. After he had walked his friend back to the border and bid him goodbye, Calico had spent a restless evening wishing for dawn and hoping that Nico would be back like he had promised. As the sun peeks its head over the horizon, white paws carry the small pup to the meeting spot that they had agreed upon and is happy to see his friend waiting for him. Waving a paw in welcoming gesture, he invites the pup over the invisible border line and wags his tail in greeting.
Nico speaks, talking about adventures and the patchwork pup’s tail picks up speed, excitement building in his chest. Eyes widen in eager anticipation as he waits to hear what his friend has planned. Then he speaks of outthink your enemy and the pup’s head tilts in curiosity. Enemy? What enemy? Jack opens his mouth to ask who this ‘enemy’ is when Nico suddenly swings his paw at Jack’s head, connecting with a solid ‘TWACK’ to side. Stumbling sideways, wide eyes look to Nico in silent outrage until his friend lays down the challenge.
Straighten up, Calico Jack shouts back, “I’m going to beat you Nico!” A laugh erupts from his mouth as he launches his small body at the coyote pup and the two begin their all-out battle. Unlike his play fight with Ajax, there is no laughter, the pair instead growling viciously (for pups) and snarling in mock ferocity. Jack tries his best, landing some sharp bites on his friend but Nico easily gains the advantage. He feels his body heading to ground and, sensing defeat, Calico begins to scream in alarm. Small body squirms under Nico, trying to pull a victory out of defeat all while screaming his little head off.

One of the kids was screaming- again- and Sparrow had half the mind to do all of nothing about it. How long till they were yearlings, again? Yearlings were practically adults, right? Plenty of yearlings did things like not screaming constantly. Sparrow trotted over, not all too hurriedly- it wasn't that type of scream- with a sigh already on her lips. When she came to, there was a small pup hauling on an equally small Jack. "You're bigger, hook his body and throw him to your side." She coached, realizing even to herself she sounded disappointed. "Bite one leg and push towards it to throw him off balance, c'mon, seriously."
Sparrow has a female Harlequin Macaw named Pongolo and a male Capuchin monkey named Friar, and a hairless mushroom tuxedo cat named Beef Sandwich. She also has cat claws... and some weird leg spike things.

The fight had been going great! Nico had managed to bowl his newfound friend over on the ground, one paw firmly on Jack’s chest, the other one starting on the chest but sliding to the ground. What the heck? Jack was screaming bloody murder! Nico bit at his friend's muzzle, trying to talk at the same time, “mmn ‘un eem yle mfting,” it was meant to be a lecture about screaming in a fight. After all, screaming could have other predators take notice. Wait. The other predators here would be Jack’s parents. Adult wolves.
The realization hit the same moment the other much, much, much bigger wolf appeared. It was a damned giant!
Nico thought of letting go but maybe holding on was for the best? Then the giant was giving Jack fighting lessons from this? Well, it wasn’t attacking. With the suggestions given Nico would let go of his hold on Jack’s muzzle and try to get off the other pup before Jack could take up the suggestions.
Nico wasn’t done fighting, he just didn’t want to hang out in a spot this other wolf had just said was to Nico’s disadvantage. Now there was the problem of keeping an eye on the adult and Jack! Well, he wasn’t done fighting unless Jack had managed to stop him from cleanly backing away. Mom had told Nico that dumb wolves fought by strength but coyotes were smarter so he just had to outthink Jack to win.

Nico attacks Jack and, in true puppy fashion, when the patchwork pup realizes he is losing, he decides to scream his head off. The coyote pup immediately grabs his muzzle, trying to silence the loud screams that fill the air around them. Jack tries to shove his friend off him, to force his muzzle free from the grasp, when a shadow falls over the pupa. Turning his icy gaze upward, the pup finds the rather disappointed form of his mother standing near them.
Sparrow starts to give pointers and, as soon as Nico releases his muzzle, Jack snarls and bites (very gently) at his friend’s leg while hooking his body and shoving him to the side. In the end, Cal helps to control Nico’s descent so that the coyote pup doesn’t get injured. Once on the ground, he places a paw on his friend’s shoulder to signal the pin before stepping back to allow Nico to get up.
Turning to face his mother, small tail wags franticly as Jack says, “Hey mom! I was just playing with my friend! He comes here every day!” The beach is considered open and so Nico is allowed to be here but the patchwork pup still wants to make sure his mother meets his friend on good terms. Maybe he shouldn’t have screamed so much…
