Watching the ocean was beginning to be a daily thing for him. It was comforting in a sense- at least proving an outlet into something familiar. Predictable, rather. The echo of the ebb and flow was lulling. It offered an easy escape from everything that was happening- thoughts he was quick to shake out of his head. The tide pulled at that sand that it had packed into place in its wake. Every now and then, a surge would engulf his lower limbs as he stood unwavering against its waning strength. As the day went on, the water was sure to recede based on the pattern he had observed. Later in the evening is when it would crest to high tide. Or at least, that’s what he had suspected. Needless to say, he had quite some time to go before that was a concern.

With a gentle sigh, Aresenn pushed forward down the coastline. Each passing stride he used to kick up water droplets. Causing an unnecessary splash to soak into the unders of his coat. An action committed entirely of boredom, however, at least it would help to keep him cool in the heat of the summer sun.

Now, as to what he was going to do for the day? He wasn’t quite sure. Though, it wasn’t as if he was on a schedule to try and figure something out. Maybe there was something that could be hunted or investigated in the tide pools? Yeah … that seemed like a good idea.

The girl had gone from sitting okay with the disappearance of her mother and brother to, the longer they were gone, becoming more bothered by it. At first, she wasn’t worried, confident that her father would find them and bring them home. Then she felt almost like she had gotten used to it, though that was a lie. Now it had been even longer and she longed to see her mother and brother again, though how possible that would be was uncertain. The shell from her mother in the den had been shoved stubbornly to one corner. Rivin didn’t want to look at it, or the rest of her collection, anymore. Not that she knew why… but they made her feel sad. Upset. Daddy seemed to get more upset too, though he was trying to hide it. Rivin could tell that Ignis was bothered though. He wasn’t very good at hiding this info from them at all. But he was trying, and that was something that Rivin could appreciate.

Rather than focus on what she couldn’t change Rivin had decided to take a walk along the beach. She liked the sound of the water and smell of the ocean even if she wasn’t trying to rush into it to play. Part of her almost wished she would play in it more, maybe by acting out and doing something her mother had advised against she might be able to bring the woman home somehow… and hopefully with Baelfire in tow. She glanced toward the waves now, ears perking as she looked upon them with a thoughtful frown. The water was not good to drink, but it definitely seemed like it wouldn’t be too bad to play in. She’d only ever gotten close enough for the waves to lap at her heels once before, and now? She was curious if maybe the cool waves might be able to distract her thoughts, if only for a little while.

Padding to where the waves met the sand Rivin let her green eyes wander to the horizon. The water seemed to stretch on forever, and as it lapped at her heels she had to wonder what it was like where the water eventually did have an end. Everything had an end, right? Rivin took another step into the water and then hesitated. She could feel how, even as it brushed over her ankles onto her legs how there was a force behind the water. Something that threatened to drag him in if she moved in too deep. She lifted her head, spying one of her siblings walking along the water as well. Her ears perked forward. It was Aresenn. She hadn’t really spent much time with him it felt like… maybe he’d like to spend some time with her? At the very least they would be able to distract one another from their missing family members and fill the day.

Rivin started towards him, calling out to her sibling. “Hey Aresenn!” She had hoped to get his attention, though the sound of her splashing in the waves as she bounced toward him in the manner of a rabbit probably would draw it as well. “Want to do something together?” She asked as she got closer, her green gaze meeting his golden gaze.

"Talk," 'Think.'

Rivin has two companions - a bobcat and a wolverine. Unless otherwise mentioned IC, assume that they are close by.

Though, just as soon as he made up his mind and had declared an intention, a familiar voice caught his attention. With the flick of an ear, he turned to see the approach of his sister. Her similarly dark tones caught his amber gaze immediately. “Hey Rivin.” He greeted her, offering her a soft grin of familial affection. With mother and Bael gone, he had kinda kept his distance from the others- at least during the daytime. It was easier to think whenever he was alone. But in this moment, he welcomed the company of his sibling. As they came to a more conversational distance, she invited him to spend time with her instead. Which he was all too happy to oblige. “Sure! I was just going to go play in the tidepools …” He responded, purposing his earlier decision. Though, perhaps Rivin had a better idea. “But, we can do something else if you have a different suggestion.” Aresenn offered.

Whatever they did, anything was better than brooding about the loss of family members, and the persistence of desperation hanging in the air in their absence.

Her brother turned to her and dropped Rivin's name in greeting. She smiled a little at that. Being recognized by her family meant a lot to the young girl. He mentioned going to play in the tidepools. That could be fun, Rivin thought to herself. It wasn't like there were a ton of things to do on the beach. Well, other than that old boat. At least in the tidepools they might find fish. Though Rivin had a hard time getting past their saltiness.

"Hmm, depends on what you're up to. I'll give us two options." She grinned a little. "On one paw, we can go visit the ship and poke around. It smells funny but I bet there's something fun in there! Oooor we go with the original ab and go to the tidepools. We set up a trap for seagulls with any of the fish we find there and we catch ourselves some birds. Who knows? Maybe seagulls are tasty." Rivin's grin widened.

"So that's the deal. We try out our first hunt or we go exploring. I'll let you choose."

The young Praetor boy could just about visibly see the gears turning in his sisters head as she racked her brain for something entertaining they could do. He watched the feminne features of her face contort with deep thought, until finally she spoke once more, ultimately proposing two options.  “Okay!” He agreed, with a little more enthusiasm to his voice as he prepared to listen carefully to what Rivin had to say.

She described going to investigate the ship, which could definitely be fun. While he had heard some of the other wolves talk about it, Aresenn had never been there or seen it for himself. But judging by the way that Rivin talked about it, she probably already had. After she recounted hunting in the tidepools, he wrinkled his nose a bit.  “Let's go look at the ship! I’ve never been in it, and I wanna see what all the fuss is about. What do you think?” He finished with a question. Of course if she insisted on hunting, he wouldn’t mind. But it seemed like all he did was roam the beach. It would be nice for a change of scenery.

The options they had were laid out and Rivin felt satisfied. Either one could be fun and interesting, especially if they got creative with the hunting, but her heart wasn’t sold on the idea of messing around in the tidepools. It seemed that Aresenn wasn’t hard-pressed about the tidepool idea either, and instead leaned toward going to look at the ship. Rivin grinned at this, giving a nod to her brother. “Ship it is. I’ve never really got to look inside it, well, thoroughly anyway! I’ve been able to peek in though and it seems pretty neat!”

That was the plan then - they would explore the ship. Setting off eagerly Rivin started for the vessel, glancing over her shoulder every so often to make sure Aresenn was keeping up with her. It wouldn’t be too long before she was making her way up the loading dock to the ship, stepping on rotting wood and bits of rusted-over metal. Once she was on the deck she turned back to make sure Aresenn had got on as well, wiggling in place with excitement.

“Here we are, aboard the mightiest ship!” She said happily.

"Talk," 'Think.'

So the decision was made, and he was satisfied with the final choice. Though, when his sister implied that she hadn't been given the opportunity to check it out thoroughly, he began to nod. "Me neither," He agreed. At least she had gotten glimpses of it, though. Aresenn, hadn't really even left the beach- well, besides to go to the den. "I haven't gone inside at all, so it should be interesting." Or at least, he hoped.

Rivin seemed to know the way there, so he was happy to allow her to take the lead. But as they drew close, well, the ship was hard to miss. The Praetor boy cautiously followed his sister up the loading dock. The wood was a little squishy with water and age. It was rotted in some places, and rusted in others. It wasn't in the best shape by any means, but yet, here it was. When Rivin declared it to be the mightiest ship, he couldn't help the part laugh- part scoff that caught in the back of his throat. "It's certainly something." He agreed, to some extent.

The ship was clearly old. But how old? Who did it originally belong to? Obviously, it wasn't that important, or the owners would be here fighting them for it. Or perhaps, something happened to the owners. "How do you think this even got here?" Aresenn mused aloud, echoing the thoughts that clouded his mind. But he knew that he was probably never going to get an answer.

However, the large iron cylinders resting on two wheels near the guard rails on the sides, he might. There were several of whatever they were positioned strategically on either side. "What's this?" He asked lightly, crossing the distance to investigate.

Aresenn had followed after her, allowing the girl to take the lead. The ship was indeed something, as her brother put it. It was old, smelled funny, and had a whole bunch of stuff inside. She was curious about how something so big could be made of wood. A lot of wood, and other stuff too. It wasn’t like a tree, even though, for the most part, it felt solid. Rivin had started to poke about on the deck when she heard her brother musing aloud. “I’d guess it came here across the water somehow. Even though it’s so big. Maybe it floats really well. Or did, rather? It doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere, now.”

She turned her head to see him looking at something with large, iron cylinders, rusted and worn from the weather. Rivin padded toward her brother, curious. “What did you find, brother?” She asked, perking her ears forward. She wasn’t sure what the metal was, but if he found out something about this thing she wanted to know too! She hurried her steps, crossing over to where Aresenn was investigating.

"Talk," 'Think.'

Aresenn nodded along as he continued his own personal investigation. It would make sense if it came in by the ocean. But regardless of where it came from, like Rivin said, it surely was here to stay now. "No, I bet you're right about that." The fire-marked pup agreed. It was likely that the only reason why the structure remained upright was for the cave holding it up around it. Though, at least the floor was sturdy enough. As warped and weathered as it was, it didn't give him the impression that it was even close to reaching the end of its lifespan.

The iron cylinders were a different story. "I don't know ..." Nor did he have any clue as to what they could be. Walking around the side, he approached the opening towards the rail at the edge. Sticking his nose up to its brim ... he couldn't smell much more than the salinity in the air from the ocean. Hooking a paw just inside, he flexed his toes- attempting to scratch the inner surface as hard as he could. After a couple of swipes, Aresenn took another whiff. What he was met with was a little harsher than what he was expecting. "It smells faintly smokey on the inside if you put your nose up to it. Like maybe there was a fire in it at some point." Taking a step back, he sought out the emerald gaze that belonged to his sister. "It's hard to say, though." He finished, a little more meekly.

Allowing his attention to wander, he questioned what more there was to see of the ship. So far ... the deck was well ... just a deck- a floor made out of old wood with some old junk on top of it. Surely there was something much cooler to see.

Aresenn checked the cylinders out, with Rivin waiting to see what he discovered, but it didn’t seem to be anything fun. The insides of them were faintly smokey, though that gave her an idea. “Maybe they used the fires to get it to move across the ocean? Something would have had to make it move, anyway.” Rivin drew closer, taking a sniff, but she couldn’t even notice the smokey smell her brother noticed. Hmm, maybe if she scratched inside as he had? Nah, that wasn’t going to get them anywhere. It wasn’t like they were going to make the fires burn again.

Trailing her way along the warped dock she came to a door. It was loose, swaying in the slight breeze. Rivin pressed against it with a paw and grinned as it swung open. “Hey Aresenn, it opens up, see?” She didn’t wait to start making her way down into the bowels of the ship, ignoring various rooms as she went deeper and deeper into the darkness, until, at last, she decided to push a set of doors open.

What she found were the remnants of the ship's kitchen. It was dark and dusty, but she could see metal bowls and the like scattered around. She stepped inside curiously, noticing how some of the bowls and pots had fallen on the floor. They were stirring sticks too, spoons, and she picked one up in her mouth before swinging it around. Well, it was kind of lightweight for a weapon… but maybe if she thwacked someone hard enough with it then it’d hurt? She turned, glancing over her shoulder to see if Aresenn had followed her or if he was checking out one of the cabins within the ship.

"Talk," 'Think.'
