Sparrow had been slow, stagnant lately. She needed to change that. She shook off the kids and made her way to the battlefield. She needed to just move for a little- to just think about moving and nothing else. She didn't want to chat, be friendly, have politeness and cordialities, she wanted to draw blood, even if just a little. Hopefully the battlefield could provide, given that it was for battles and all. Sparrow called out to no one in particular and waited while doing some stretches. She was antsy and wanted a win or even a loss. It was nothing personal, and she didn't want it to be.

There was something damn near religious about this place, and the very weight of it hung around the shadow's head like you wouldn't believe. Nearly intoxicating, Víðarr found it. As with all things that brought him closer to his gods, it made him walk a little taller, stand up a little straighter. Though they were always there, this was one of the places where they could see him best. He had to make a good impression. Víðarr had to make it count.

A call for no one in particular-- it just so happened that Víðarr was no one in particular. Well, at least to Sparrow he was. The shadow drew to an amenable distance, dipping his muzzle for just a moment in lieu of a greeting. "On your move," accent heavily coloring his words, but it was clear enough. He carefully placed his feet on the rough ground and steadied himself, as prepared as possible for whatever came next.

Sparrow wasn't sure who the acceptor of her challenger was and she didn't care to fin out. He approached, standing about as tall and large as she, and dipped his dark muzzle in greeting before he spoke. Sparrow wasn't even sure she heard the words through the rushing of her heartbeat in her ears. She let all of her thoughts drop away in a moment of peaceful silence before she kicked off, aiming to circle to the man's left. She aimed to charge his left, knowing might alone wouldn't topple someone as close to her in height and weight, and sought to use her left foreleg to pull his left foreleg out from his body just as she would simultaneously slammed into him.

She is broad, strong, as much a mountain of a wolf as he was. There's something gratifying about that. Viðarr tossed his head, eyes glimmering in the light of the battlefield. Everything about him in these moments is brilliant. Beautiful, dangerous, brilliant. In a dance like this, so brilliant and beautiful, he feels the camaraderie that can only come from a fight. The vision that he'd had around the statue still rings clear and true in his mind. There was a great hall filled with brothers, filled with family, that waited for him on the other side. Every fight, every spar, it brought him closer to what would be his fate in the end. Every time the shadow steps into the ring it's a religious experience. This is no different.

A state of calmness, of stillness, enters Viðarr and takes hold of his entire system. It grips him in a way that he can't deny. His adversary circled left, and moved to slam into him. He begins to move in this moment, meeting her blow in much the same way. Though she manages to unseat his foreleg from its spot on the ground, Viðarr pushes in her direction instead of staggering back. He'd try and thrust his weight upon her shoulder, teeth and jaws flailing all the while. If he could catch her in the process, that would be all the better. Fur, flesh, any of it. Close quarters would suit him best, not expending the energy to steer and move too far away. Behemoths battling it out, and he'd do his best to stay in direct proximity as the spar went on.

Sparrow's body met his in what could only be described as a type of ecstasy far removed from physical attraction and brought alone on the back of physical exertion and intimacy beyond romantics. Close combat, rough play, the scent and adrenaline was more than enough, and to receive and inflict pain was the epitome of mortal existence. The large man thrust his wight onto her, his teeth catching in her flesh as pain blossomed sweetly in the pocks of with newly formed wound on her left cheek. He moved not to pull away, and Sparrow moved only to press forward, rocking herself to wrench her cheek free from his vice as she herself aimed to duck her head and seize his lower jaw, or better yet his precious neck, in her own teeth. A battle won not with theatrics, but by a pain olympics.

Relentless. Reckless. Brilliant. The shadow is taken over by something that's far greater than himself in moments like these. The blood in his veins isn't just his own, no. Something bigger. Something better. Something that ties him to the ancestors that came before him and those that would come long after he's gone. All of them are held together by an invisible thread, and all of them are here on the battlefield with him now. Viðarr could not describe it, but there's reverence in combat. He's reverent.

They're locked in a dance as old as life itself. Alive. The throb of his heart in his chest, the ache of his muscles, the spinning in his head and the stinging pain of ripped flesh-- yes. This is where he feels most alive. This is what suits him in every last godforsaken way. It feels phenomenal. Viðarr is everything he wants to be in moments like this. The berserker pushes through the stinging as it turns to searing. A savage growl wrenched free from his chest. He couldn't help it. His challenger had the tender spot where his jaw turned to neck, somewhere in between. He couldn't say exactly where, only that it hurt as he twisted and wrenched in an attempt to free himself.

Viðarr did not relent. He pushed, crashed into the woman as best he could with his limited space to gather momentum. He was grateful for the power in his muscles, feeling his entire system working in harmony. Beautiful in a way that he rarely is. Viðarr was making a wild attempt to shove her off balance, hoping to stagger the creature as they moved in perfect time together. Shoving, pressing forward, teeth gnashing and jaws snapping. The bite was only meant to serve as a diversion, and his real desire was to bring her crashing to the ground.

Sparrow did not feel any generational greatness or the woes and heartbeats of her ancestors. No, she was alone in her thoughts and body, no reverence to be found.

Sparrow did, however, feel alike in that fighting made her feel alive. The man growled and Sparrow replied with a growl of her own as she held fast against his thrashing. He pushed against her and, like the behemoth she was, she pushed back. His jaws snapped and Sparrow let loose her grip to try to meet his teeth in a clash. Let their might against one another come together and let only one prevail.

In combat there's understanding. There's respect, too, in a way that the shadow rarely feels otherwise. Respect, reverence, and something that's far greater. No matter the outcome, he'd come away sore and proud of himself. Head high. Sore and feeling like he'd earned it. Scars are eared. Soreness is earned. Connection, though fleeting, is earned too. A golden thread that winds them all together. Viðarr holds onto that thread more tightly than he'd admit.

Each struggles to remain composed, upright, and relentless in their assault. The clashing of teeth and the growling of warriors thick in the air between them. It's a spectacle, the pair of massive creatures battling away in a strange land with singular purpose. His adversary pushed, and he pushed back. The great ache and burning of his muscles was starting to set in, but Viðarr pushed through it. There was too much adrenaline in his system to pay the soreness heed, and he wouldn't. Not yet. His jaws snapped once more, attempting to get a grip on the woman in any way he could. If he could get a grip, maybe he'd be able to haul her off. Though he was tired, Viðarr wasn't finished. This was too much fun.
