What are Sisters For?

Thorn hadn’t actually been in the dojo, not yet at least. With thoughts running through his mind, the boy made little noise. It wasn’t so much he attempted to be quiet but that other than walking he was doing nothing to make noise. He came up behind Taly, one ear bandaged and a wooden sword in his mouth. She might have noticed him by the softer sound of his steps, or maybe from his scent if she was paying attention. If she wasn’t then she likely notice when he lowered his head to drop the wooden sword as the weapon struck the ground with a light thud.
“Hey Taly, what are you doing here?” The question asked with friendly curiosity. It wasn’t a spot he expected to find his sister considering she’d never shown the same interest as most of his siblings in fighting. Thorn couldn’t let a little injury to his ear stop him from training, not if he wanted to be an amazing fighter someday. He also had to keep busy, it was imperative! When he was still the urge to scratch at the ear came on like a massive itch that was hard to ignore. The wound hurt, the stitching itched and the fact it refused to let him forget made it all the more work to not mess with it. Training was the best answer obviously.

Taly was the one sibling in the family who wasn’t interested in fighting but she always seemed to have a big heart. She was worried about him and, instead of asking around their siblings where he’d have to keep his pride in check, she’d found a spot where they were alone. What a great sister he had.
“Here I am,” Thorn replied with a grin, “and here I’d wondered if you’d changed your mind and come to start training also,” the words were said in light jest, confident Taly would keep to other studies. “It’s alright, at least it's healing up.” Thorn rolled his eyes up as if he could try to get a good look at the ear but it was a hard spot to get a good view of. “It’s sore and, it itches but that’s supposed to mean it's healing I think.”
Thorn imagined if he was going to be a warrior then he should expect injuries to happen though, hopefully never again from family. Really, Thorn wondered if Dusk was the one who came away with the bigger injury, just not the physical sort. That wasn’t for him to speak of though, let Dusk decide who she wanted to open up to. “I’m going to be a great warrior someday so, I can’t let a little thing like this bother me.” A tip of his ear was gone but, it could have been much worse. “Don’t worry Taly, I’m tough!”

As Thorn announced that he was in fact, here now, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes in mock annoyance. “I see that, thank you.” She answered, her once sympathetic grin turning into something more clearly amused- which only became more genuine as he described himself wondering if she had a change of heart in training. Her brother was clearly joking. “I don’t think that’s quite a concern yet … but in the event I change my mind and decide I’m going to be a knight too, you’ll be the first to know.” Talyssa answered, breaking out in her own laughter as she fumbled through her response.. The idea of her competing with her siblings in that nature was hysterical at best.
Though, when the pleasantries subsided and they moved on to her intended question, she was thankful to hear that Thorn was doing okay. Soreness and itchiness were symptoms that could no doubt be handled. “Good … I was sure you weren’t too badly hurt. Just wanted to make sure.” She answered lightly, followed by a brief hesitance. As her brother went on to describe how tough he was, and that little things like missing ear tips were of little concern to him, she’d do her best to keep herself sincere. While she didn’t think he meant that part to be funny, it certainly sounded that way to her. “Well, if a missing ear tip is the worst injury you sustain, I imagine everything will be just fine.” She ensured. However, they had their whole lives ahead of them. And while they were still growing up in the Hallows now, she imagined there would be a time that they would go their separate ways and face their own journeys. It was sad to think about it- but she quickly discarded those deeper thoughts. “Just promise me you won’t lose anything major on your way to becoming a great warrior, okay?” Talyssa finished, looking for any sort of recognition he might offer.
