The angel had been safely tucked away on the island, her bedding changed so that it was fresh and nicely set up. After about two songs and some dancing, the boy had made sure to set of their defenses before setting off to the mainland for some alone time. He deserved it didn't he? Spending just about every second of the day taking care of the beautiful woman stuck in eternal sleep, after all, he needed to refresh himself so that he would be able to continue taking care of her.

While trying to just relax however, the boy had come upon a strange new place. It was unlike anything he had ever seen before, the walls of this big cave, at least that's what he thought it was, were smooth and cool to the touch. Lips pulled back ina grin, tail beginning to swing in a rhythmic motion. He moved close to the wall and pressed the side of his face against it, eyes closing as the chilling sensation it gave him. It would be a nice place to come paint sometime, spread his drawings all over the place.

This strange place was just one of many that these lands that perhaps harbored her brother seemed to contain. Serra wasn't sure how close Quelt was, but she knew that she wasn't going to find him if she didn't explore. She couldn't imagine her brother in these caves, but Serra was determined to look. She had left her home to find him, left without telling her other siblings goodbye. That had smarter, to say the lest. Serra adored them enough that she had disliked leaving them almost as much as she had disliked Quelt being gone. But without Quelt, Serra was lost. He had been the one she was closest to, and Serra knew that her family could never be complete without him. He could have been King one day, and Serra would have been content to be his second in command, his Duchess beneath his Queen. That was the way things should have been. But Quelt had left and so Serra had followed, determined to bring him back to her family. They needed him.

Slate gray ears swivelled as Serra sniffed the air cautiously. A confusing scent drifted under her nose - a wolf, that was for sure, but the musky cavern's scent overpowered that of the wolf. It certainly wasn't Quelt, Serra realized almost immediately, making her breathe a soft sigh. But perhaps this wolf had seen Quelt - and this was the first time since her arrival here that she had scented another wolf nearby. There had been stale scents before, but this was fresh - there was a wolf just ahead in the darkness. Though the utter blackness of the cave was daunting, Serra was determined to find out if this wolf had seen her brother.

So she took a deep breath, and padded into the darkness. "Hello?" Serra called out curiously, eyes straining to see in the darkness. "Is there anyone in here?" Serra did her best to scan the surrounding area, but the darkness made it hard to see anything. Would the mysterious wolf answer her?

The faint clicking of claws against the cold ground would flow into the boy's ears, head pulling away from the wall and whole body going still. Carefully he would listen, his breathing becoming light, almost able to hear his own heartbeat. Paws would place themselves careful on the ground, moving th male backwards, sliding into the darkness where he would blend in with his darker coat. If somebody was here, he was sure that the musky smell of the caverns would make following him a bit difficult.

Ears would flick forward at a feminine voice speaking from the darkness ahead, saying hello and asking if anyone was there. Sal would try his hardest not to laugh, not to give away his position. It would ruin his good hiding spot and the woman would find him. That couldn't happen... yet. So with a mischievous grin, the boy would lower his body and move, careful that his claws wouldn't click against the ground. Doing this he would manage to move away and in a semi-circle around the stranger, sticking to the shadows.

When at last he thought that he was in a good spot, Sal would lean back, tail wagging quietly, making his rear swing with it the slightest. Then he lunged! The boy leaped from the darkness, aiming to land right behind the stranger with a bark. Not vicious or anything, he just wanted to spook her.

Silence fell after Serra spoke, leaving her standing in the darkness. Nothing moved, nothing breathed, and she was starting to wonder if maybe the wolf she had smelled simply had left without her realizing it. That wouldn't have surprised her, at any rate. Maybe she ought to head out. The darkness was peaceful enough that Serra remained still for a few moments longer, long enough for her to feel a soft stirring in the air. Or was she imagining things?

Either way, Serra was ready to get out. The dark might have been peaceful, but it was also pretty damn cree--and just as she thought this, there was a loud bark from behind her. Serra let out a startled yelp and leaped forward, claws scrabbling against the rocky ground as she spun around, panicked gaze seeking out what had scared her so. She could just barely discern the form of another wolf, and could identify little about the other except that it was a little larger than her, and darkly colored. It was definitely just a wolf, though, and not a monster from the depths of the earth, which she had guessed it might be.

Her breathing and heart rate were slowing slightly to approach a normal rate once more when Serra spoke nervously, "Wh-who are you?" He had scared her good and proper, all right, and Serra was taking more than a few moments to return to her natural state of being. Though her head was held high, and her stance proud, it was at odds with the slight quaver to her voice and the way she had all but fled the wolf when he had startled her. She was glad, in that moment, that her brother was not around, and that he had missed that embarrassing display.

At the yelp and leap forward, the boy would swing his head up, a small laugh escaping his jaws. By time his head swung back down he had broken out into an hysterical fit. Paw slapped at the ground , the front half of his body lowering to the ground, while his left paw went to cover his face. Quickly he would end up completely on the ground, laying on his right side with both paws covering his face and back legs kicking around. ?Omg, I got you good, so good wolf!? He managed to say between laughs, wiping away tears from how hard he was laughing. ?Jeez, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.? The boy wheezed, trying to calm down, laughs growing quieter and taking deep breaths. ?The name's Salamander.? He rolled onto his stomach, a paw wiping away the tears sliding down his cheeks, lips pulling back in a goofy smile.

At first, she had trouble processing what was going on. Serra stared blankly at the slightly larger figure, eyeing the masculine creature as it laughed, taking a long moment to realize that he was laughing at her. She was immediately offended, blue eyes narrowing to shoot him a nasty look as the wolf dropped onto his front paws and then collapsed entirely, laughing so joyously that Serra felt her anger fading as soon as it surfaced. By the time that he addressed her, Serra was smiling a little, the tension slowly flowing from her muscles as she wagged her tail just slightly. "That you did," Serra agreed, her tone somewhere between annoyed and amused. She wasn't sure which she felt more strongly at that moment, head tilting slightly to the side as she examined the wolf as he laughed so joyously.

Finally, he simply looked so ridiculous that Serra found herself laughing as well, tail wagging just slightly in the air behind her. "My name is Serra," She found it difficult to get the words out around her laughter, but Serra settled back on her haunches as she spoke, quickly assuming that this wolf was not a threat. After all, if he had wanted to hurt her, he would have when he jumped out at her. And laying on his stomach laughing as he was, Serra couldn't find it in herself to think of this Salamander as a threat to her safety.

Serra was still laughing a little when she spoke again, tail thumping happily against the earth, "That was good!" She commended him, surprised by how . . . not upset she was. But he had been so proud of himself that it had been impossible for Serra to stay upset, and anyways, if Serra had been more of a prankster, she probably would have done it herself. "What brings you here, Salamander?" With that, Serra found herself returning to her typical demeanor, her laughter fading into silence as she straightened her body a little and tilted her chin up slightly to offer her a little bit more height - she was going to need all the extra height she could get if this Salamander stood up again, as he was just a little bit larger than her.

Almost unable to hear what the female told him, the boy tried to control his laughter, his lungs and chest hurting from how loud and rapid they had come out. Head shook, paws gently massaging his cheeks while the laughs began to fade, slowly regaining composure. With enough control finally, the boy's violet gaze watched the woman laugh as well, tail wagging after the initial surprise, going from frightened and to amused. Serra was her name, agreeing that the scare was indeed good and asked what brought him here.

Quickly Sal picked himself up, going from laying on his belly and to a sitting position. He couldn't tell the lady wolf why he was hear, couldn't let her know about the Angel he was taking care of off on an island not too far from here. So, he would tell her half the truth with a tiny lie mixed in. "Me time." He would tell her simply, a large goofy grin plastered on his face, giving a few quick nods of his head.

Serra would accept the male's words at face value, nodding her head at the short answer that she received to her question. "Makes sense," When her family had been together, she had been known to slip away for just a little bit of 'personal time.' Of course now that she had been alone for as long as she had been, Serra was starting to think that she'd gotten enough 'me time' to last her an eternity. She'd be okay if she never got to spend time by herself again as long as she found Quelt again.

Okay, maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration. Serra flicked her ears at her thoughts, turning her attention back towards Salamander once more. "This seems like a good place to spend some time alone. Am I intruding?" For the first time, Serra was putting the pieces together about Salamander coming here for 'me time' and her being there. Her parents probably would have swatted her for that. They certainly wouldn't have approved of her forcing her company on one who didn't desire it - that was hardly what royalty did, after all. And Serra might not have quite been royalty, but thanks to her parents, she came pretty dang close.

Still, there was no point in obsessing over it. If Salamander wished her to leave, he would tell her so. Otherwise, Serra was enjoying his company enough that she would stick around.
