If she could do this, she was sure she could surpass the hardest tasks and trials that life had to throw at her. She had made it this far, what was one more fight?

He didn’t come here often anymore, but today, he felt like trying his strength against an unfamiliar opponent. It would do him well to improve, given his performance at the raid, and a new opponent would be a refreshing look into whether he’d improved at all since then.
So, with his companions in tow, and armor donned, minus the cloak, he’d set off. Sounds of a fight faded into hearing distance, but by the time he came upon it, the brawl itself was over, and he hadn’t even the chance to see who had come out victorious.
His eyes fell on Medusa, and he paused, head tilting. She looked like she’d been fighting hard for hours, given she was flopped out on the ground panting for breath. Then again, she was an odd one. Perhaps battlefields helped her sleep.
“Medusa.” The word was half greeting, half concerned query as he moved a few steps closer.

Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.

It felt like she'd never catch her breath. She had lost track now with how much she'd been fighting today and over the last few days. How many had she won? How many had she lost? How many ended up in a tie? She hadn't even been keeping track of any of that! All she had been doing was going up against anyone and everyone she could in an effort to prove to...well...the universe, she supposed, that she was strong. Not so much in the sense of literal physical prowess, no, she didn't give a damn about that. But spiritually? Maybe? She didn't know anymore. She had passed all the trials life had thrown at her over the years, but for some reason, in the back of her mind, she just had to keep proving she was capable. Maybe it was her subconscious clinging to the negative memories of her past...but of course, another thing she didn't fully acknowledge or really realize. "You're so stupid!"......"You deserve to die!"...."Nothing but a dumb slave!"....."You'll always be nothing!"...."Medusa." Her eyes snapped open to find a huge black figure close by, though once she quickly realized it was a friendly, she didn't really bother jumping to her feet. Besides, even if he had been an unfriendly sort, her companions had her back while she was resting. "Ardyn! Medusa is not taking a nap, she was just-" She made to gesture at her previous opponent, but realized the guy had taken off pretty quickly. Oh well! She turned back to Ardyn with a huge grin, "Medusa is just practicing!" |

Her eyes snapped open at his voice, but the skeletal-marked woman didn’t rise from her sprawl on the ground. Her contradictory explanation came out in her usual way of speaking, and he nodded seriously, humoring her, though his head tilted curiously as she added that she was practicing.
Well, he’d come here to practice, himself. Perhaps going up against Medusa would be a good test to get an idea of what she was like to fight, if ever their two packs were forced to come to blows and a war ensued. Although, given that she seemed to have worn herself out with prior fights, he didn’t know if it would be a fair assessment.

Whoo boy, she had really gone and done it. She would be sore for quite a bit after today, she was sure, but then again, no pain, no gain, right!? Slowing down was not something that Medusa did nor was it something she knew how to do. It was GO! GO! GO! 24/7, 365. But when she heard those magic words, “Are you up for one more practice round? I came out to test myself against outside wolves.” Medusa perked right up and sprang to her feet as if she was a fresh spring chicken! She nodded eagerly, paws tippy tapping the ground and her tail wagging a mile a minute as she practically danced around. "Medusa is up for another! Ardyn wants to practice with Medusa!?" She grinned wide, bounding over to stand several feet opposite him. She knew a pawful of things. He had grippy paws. sharper claws. Longer teeth. And a body full of long gorgeous hair that maybe hid some other surprises she couldn't see. Not to mention his own set of companions to help out, too. Medusa’s weariness dropped away like a cloud of loose fur at the mention of practice, and Ardyn repressed the urge to snort a laugh, nodding and settling into his own defenses as she took her place. He was fully armed and armored, main and tail loose, feathers and adornments left at home to avoid having them used against him in a fight.
Lunira and Sädir flanked him, circling outward to attempt at flanking Medusa’s rear, poised to play offense and distraction for her companions, as Lyr wheeled and toyed in the air above, head tipping to watch the sky and the impending spar below.
Ardyn launched forward in a fleet, sweeping bound, aiming to close the distance between himself and Medusa head-on, though at a slight angle to his own right at the last bound as he sought to angle his jaws down and to his left and snap his jaws toward Medusa’s head, primarily her muzzle.
He didn’t open his jaws wide enough to catch her muzzle in his sabers should he land the attack successfully, but he hoped to give her some scrapes with his upper and lower incisors, maybe even pinch the skin on the bridge of her nose.
Simultaneously, he sought to sweep his left foreleg out to his own left and catch Medusa’s left foreleg in the juncture of brisket and limb in a scissor-like pincer movement, hoping to snap his foreleg back toward his body and wrest Medusa’s leg off the ground and tight to his chest.

The Valhallan King started to settle into his defenses, his grounded companions flanking him and likewise, hers did the same. She was feeling sore, but the adrenaline at the prospect of another fight against him gave her a sort of renewed energy, though she was sure this would be her last fight for the day...and probably for the next few days. She shook herself out real quick, her bone armor rattling as she prepared herself. Seymour was in the air, circling high as he watched the field below, ready to dive in should he need to, while Umbra and Nox kept their eyes on Ardyn's companions. Ardyn came at her, the larger male coming to close the distance between them, and Medusa held her ground, limbs bent as she prepared to move. As he drew close, she saw his fangs come towards her face, and she took the opportunity to move at last. Her jaws snapped towards his as she surged forward, seeking to lock jaws with his own, though with her slightly smaller stature, her jaws aimed beneath his and she sought to wrap her teeth beneath his bottom jaw. His leg sweep was successful, an attack she hadn't focused on too much since she was focused mostly on protecting her face. Oh well, her leg came out from under her, and she decided that if she managed to grab his jaw, then she would suffer the scrapes and hopefully, take him down with her, or at the very least drag his head down and give him some whiplash.
