stars dot the sky in crystalline formations, stark pinpricks against a canvas of sapphire and onyx. beneath the fat, shining orb of a near-full moon, Dulla steps into a ring of marked boulders and looks about with wide eyes. ”gods,” she mutters to herself, an ironic hitch to the rasp of her voice - speaking too loudly feels blasphemous, here - ”it’s just as they said.” she recalls the sermons of her youth, the wet, shining eyes of her kin as they’d bowed their head in reverent devotion. they’d spoken of such a place as this; lit beneath the stars, heavenly, a marvel of natural beauty. it’d been abstract, of course; they’d never mentioned a ring of stones, per-say. but Dulla knew they’d keen at the very sight of this place, would fall to their knees and weep with joy. god’s love was real.
too bad they’d never see it, Dulla thinks, snickering to herself. ”fuckers.”
