The move had probably been easier on Kismet and his brother more than any other wolf in the pack. Of course the actual move itself hadn't really been tiring, too young to swim on their own they'd been carried across to their new home but settling in wasn't exactly a challenge for him either. He hadn't really known anything about the previous Valhalla territory, mostly restricted within the little family's den there, he wasn't really leaving anything behind.

Kismet was reaching that age now where exploring was starting to take place, perhaps not quite the most favourable idea in an adults mind given the fact they too were all so new to the island but he saw no harm at all in wandering around. In actual fact he hadn't strayed far at all from the new den, though far enough that it was now just out of sight. Azalea would probably have quite the fright to return to their den and find the young boy missing. He hadn't wanted to sit around and wait though and after informing Soren of his decision he had begun his little walk.

Azalea's new den was a god sent, sitting shallowly in the gnarled roots of a massive tree. She had no idea what sort of tree it was though, unfamiliar with the jungle flora. It was hard work navigating the jungle and she found herself panting more frequently. It was good for her body though, child bearing fat slowly burning away.

It was more than a relief to be done with the dreaded nursing though her under side would never quite look the same again. The only way the dramatic she-wolf was surviving the whole ordeal was by not thinking about it too much.

Azalea headed back to the pups, now old enough to talk and move around well enough. She held in her grasp some sort of duck (at least she thought so, the animals could be just as different as the trees). Its head dangled limply and feathers hid Azalea's nose and half her muzzle. It was a good size meal... for the puppies. She would have to find herself something later. It wasn't a bother though, happy to not be starving all the time anymore.

She jumped a fallen tree, knowing just ahead and around a curve of thick undergrowth she would find her tree. And there it was. She woofed, dropping the duck to the ground and looking around. She spotted the tell tale black and white fur of Soren but Kismet? Her fur rose along her spine, worry spiking painfully in her stomach. "Kismet?! KISMET!" Her voice alarmed.

The move had been easier on his brother than on Soren, not that he really had much to complain about. He hadn't had to swim there, and the trip had given him a better view of the world beyond the den. It was the new den that was actually the problem. In the young boys mind the previous den had been perfect, the signs of his mother's obsessive preparations for the boys had been seen as perfecting Soren's home. This den though? Well it simply wasn't up to his lofty but completely reasonable, at least in his mind, standards. Certainly he was now of the age that most pups would be eager to go exploring but Soren could hardly imaging leaving the den with it being in such a state.

So when his brother informed him he was leaving the boy had simply nodded and went back to his fussing. Mismatched paws scrabbled at the ground as he attempted to even out a dip within the den. The scent of a fresh kill wafted towards him. Hunger would win out this time over his compulsion; the figure of his mother would become apparent just as she barked. Padding beyond the confines of the den in time to hear his mother's panicked calling. "He went out." Came the boy's simple answer, his gaze turning towards the bird at his mother's paws.

Kismet thought it rather odd that his brother would rather spend his time playing around in the dirt rather than start to explore the island. Their mother was allowed to wander off after all and so he saw no reason why he and Soren, if he ever chose to leave that den alone, could take a little walk of their own. He saw nothing wrong with the den personally, though had already grown rather fed up of staring at those tree roots.

Suddenly hearing his name, the young boy lifted his head, glancing back over his shoulder to the path he had taken. His mother's cry was loud enough to catch his attention, and apparently she had now returned to the den. A small sigh sounded from the pup as he glanced ahead once more debating on whether to continue or head back. Recalling Azalea's frantic tone however, Kismet decided to head back for now, reassure her that he was perfectly fine. Turning, he began to make his way back towards the den, the path fresh in his memory and still rather easy to retrace.

?He went out.? Azalea's head would snap to the side, amber eyes locking in on Soren. The pup stood looking at her before his eyes would wander to the prize she had brought with her. She smiled lightly, though her ears would move around distractedly listening for Kismet.

She heard a twig snap and her ears perked up. She glanced to Soren, her eyes strict, "Wait." One word that made her meaning very clear. He was not to touch the food until she got back. The snow and russet fem wandered into the undergrowth, nose going to town, following the familiar scent easily enough. He was already coming back when she noticed him. Frustration was swept away with relief and Azalea sighed heavily. "Come. I brought food." With that she turned back around, leading back to the cleared out area.

'Now,' Azalea went over to the duck, sitting on the opposite side from the boys. "This is a type of water fowl, a duck. Its not like deer or pig, with birds you have pluck the feathers first. Watch" She put her paws around it and leaned down to pull out a mouthful of feathers. The sleek black feathers fell away from her mouth, little black poofs of down feathers however did not want to cooperate. "If you don't pluck the feathers first, the little feathers will stick in your throat and you could choke to death. The big feathers on the other paw are pointy and sharp," She pushed feathers towards them so they can see the quill side, "so they are dangerous to eat."

Now she pushed the duck toward them, for a moment thinking perhaps she should pluck it for them first. Then she thought better of it, maybe one of them would be bold and give it a try. She wanted them to learn, it was vital. "You may eat." There was a light smile on her face, eyes curious to see if they would try.

He glanced back up at his mother as she gave him a command and he nodded, dropping onto his haunches and curling his tail neatly around his paws, looking rather feline in pose. He watched her go off to chase his brother, olive gaze tracking her movement for a moment before dropping to the bird again. He shifted slightly, the scent wafting up to him. It would not take long for her to return but to the hungry pup it felt like an eternity. He lifted his gaze again, relief very evident in his expression.

He paid close attention as his mother spoke, teaching them about the bird. He understood some of what she was speaking of, but a lot of it was above the boy, after all he hardly left the den. He watched intently as his mother leaned down to pluck at the feathers. The fluttered down from mouth and she pushed them toward them. The boy took in a sharp breath as he saw the pointed quill.

Their mother pushed the duck towards them, and told them that they could eat. The hunger got the best of him and he reached forwards to bite at its neck, pulling back quickly when he failed. The blade of the feather was not as soft as he had imagined and down stuck to the roof of his mouth. He quickly flicked his tongue along the roof of his mouth to his lower lip trying to get the soft feathers out of his mouth.

Before he had the chance to get back to the den, his mother appeared in his view. For a moment he assumed there would be a further telling off, though to his relief he was entirely mistaken. "Come. I brought food." Were her only words and with his tail wagging slightly at his close escape of his mother's anger and silently followed behind her as she led the way back to the den, their meal and his waiting brother.

Taking a seat at Soren's side, mismatched gaze looked to their mother as Azalea sat before them with what was presumably dinner. "Now, this is a type of water fowl, a duck. Its not like deer or pig, with birds you have pluck the feathers first. Watch." Feathers? To begin with his mind purely wondered what they could actually be, as his mother set to work he assumed it was the funny looking fur they had which looked even odder still as he caught sight of the quills his mother pushed towards them. "If you don't pluck the feathers first, the little feathers will stick in your throat and you could choke to death. The big feathers on the other paw are pointy and sharp, so they are dangerous to eat."

Kismet wasn't too sure that duck sounded like a particularly wonderful meal in all honesty. Surely they were supposed to stay away from things that were dangerous, that was what they, or at least he had been reminded of a few times in the past. As the bird was pushed towards them though, Soren was quick to dive in and take a bite though almost as swiftly moved back from the duck. "He didn't pluck it right did he?" Kismet guessed looking away from Soren and back to their mother.

His turn now he supposed, seeing as Soren was still attempting to rid the feathers from his mouth. Placing his paws around the duck, mimicking his mother the best that he was able to, Kismet then carefully attempted to grasp and pull free the feathers as they had been shown. It was more challenging than Azalea had made it look but at last, though his caution probably wasn't helping too much, but in the end he finally succeeded in pulling free some feathers. "I did it" Or at least he attempted to say something of the sort with the down feathers now causing him as much trouble as they had Soren. Surely there was an easier way? He certainly hoped so as he finally spat out the pesky down feathers.

Soren's fearful draw of breath made Azalea feel oddly triumphant. Perhaps he would fear would make him learn faster. She really didn't want to repeat herself.

Both pups looked a bit confused though as she went through her explanations that were, in her mind, perfect. Still, when she handed over the duck Soren was on top of it. Azalea jumped up as the boy did exactly what she had wanted him not to do. Put the whole thing straight in his mouth. The pup took a jump back, fussing over his mouth and the feathers stuck to it.

Kismet watched, ever the thinker. "He didn't pluck it right did he?" Azalea's miniature heart attack faltered at the tone of Kismet's voice and the look he gave her. And with that she began laughing. She walked toward Soren with the light shake of her head. "Now, listen, I just told you what NOT to do and that's exactly what you DID do." She wasn't quite sure how she was supposed to help him.

Azalea began to look around for some solution only to be sidetracked with a voice from behind her. "I did it," She turned to see Kismet now equally flustered by the feathers. She smiled weakly before looking between the two.

"Okay boys, try wiping the feathers off onto your leg. If that doesn't help you any then you're not going to like what comes next."
